Wrighting a Wrong
Moon rise over Jimmy's
Mindy before leaving
I woke Wednesday morning right on time. And once out of bed, I felt more than motivated to attack my routine with vengeance. Too, it didn’t hurt that the weather promised to be beautiful with only the potential for late afternoon/evening showers. That was fine with me given that we could use the rain to help the grass green and grow.
On our walk, Ykraps was enjoying the scents that spring time offers too. His olfactory system was in overdrive hyper-mode. I could see the excitement in his big black eyes as sniffed and double sniffed everything growing in sight. For him, that often includes a couple of bow movements.
Truth is, I was still a little unsettled with the Courtney thing. I am a fix-it kind of guy. And if I can’t fix something, it annoys me to no end, not to mention that she's still my baby and I love and care for her as such. This one, I am afraid, I will have to live with. But on with what I have the most control over… me!
Once again, I chose to not drive the BM’er for a number reasons. First, I have had a lot on my mind and didn’t want to plan that hard simply for my morning drive, Second of all, I guess I was just being a little lazy. If it were Friday that might have been a different story. I talked with Mindy on my way to work just as I do most mornings. Mindy made it clear that she wanted me to attend church with her Easter morning, but I had already decided that yard work, given any kind of decent weather, was going to be the focus of my entire weekend. After all, it is that time of year and digging in the earth is something those that know me well know that I love to do. It's therapeutic, rewarding, and fun. A nice looking yard & landscape takes many hours of hidden work that isn't readily visible to the casual observer. I think it's fair to say that we had to table that discussion!
Work picked up where it left off the day before. Things were functioning at the new 'normal'. We were scrambling to be all we could be for everyone in need. To add some excitement to our morning, one of the engineers caught a glimpse of bellowing smoke rolling past the windows and quickly called everyone's attention to it. And while the front of the building in that area was obscured from our view, the remnant smoke from whatever was burning/smoldering was thick and getting thicker. Soon we heard the tale tell sounds of a fire engine. Something had gone terribly wrong but we still did not know what. We guess a car fire or similar, but just then I caught a glimpse through the second floor corner office windows of flames shooting into the sky. The fire department quickly applied water extinguishing the growing flames. As it turned out, someone had apparently thrown a cigarette into the freshly laid mulch causing it to smolder and eventually combust. In the end, we lost several shrubs that were just beginning to bloom their spring canopies.
Menawhile, lunch time couldn't come fast enough. I left for my run sometime near 12:30pm again today. It was nearly 75 degrees and sunny, and I was more than excited about the prospects of such a run. What I didn't realize was that the wind was blowing ridiculously hard out of the southwest. This was the strongest wind in recent memory. We had steady winds topping 40mph. I had to hold onto my hat for a better portion of my run. It was so strong that it left me feeling as though I was running in place. The return was another story. I practically flew back - literally!
After my run I felt much refreshed save for the ongoing rock present in my tummy. After a shower and a return to street clothes I felt even that much better. The afternoon was a bit more tame than the morning but you can never tell which will be more trying. I took notice of an email sent from Mindy indicating that she would be using her child free evening for some Easter type errands in lieu of spending it with me. That sat well with me as I wasn't much in the mood for company. I needed some time to reflect. That was how I planned my evening as I departed around 5:10pm. But before going home, I made a stop at Lowes to right a wrong. Monday, when I was there to buy a handful of items (plant, floor cleaner for Mindy, yard gloves, and a lamp part) they only charged me for the plant and floor cleaner - not the gloves and lamp part. My conscious I knew would be much clearer if I gave them their due money. I too the objects and my receipt into Lowes to show then their mistake and promptly paid up. I think it's fair to say that we were both happy! While there I did some more shopping. I bought a new clay pot for my new plant, some grass seed, and potting soil. I was home by 6:00pm.
After walking Ykraps and taking care of my other routine chores I began surfing the internet. Most notably, I was surfing for a vacation get-away. I was feeling like I needed a week in Mexico! I found what appeared to be one heck of a deal. I'll have to decide if I want to push the button soon! About that time, Mindy pulled up even though her original plans didn't include a visit to see Jim. We spent the next couple of hours chatting all while I addressed things I needed to get done. Through the evening I readied my state income tax check for mailing, brushed Ykraps, and cleaned up other messes. After a quick salad and a few takings of our blood pressure (by the way, mine was as low as it's been in a while - 122/73 - pulse 54) we got in the hot tub. It felt great and the moon was just rising in the eastern sky - one day prior to a full moon. It was orange, which was probably due in part to the somewhat summer like haze hovering in the sky.
After about 30 minutes it began to rain so we got out. I was certain that lightning and thunder wasn't far behind. Almost as soon as we went in it broke loose. Good call!
At 9pm-ish we tuned into American Idol to see who would be thrown off the island. My guess was Bucky, and he was. The others, I thought, were surprisingly good! Mindy left somewhere around 9:30pm. I spent little time to my self but instead went right to bed and my book. I fell asleep rather abruptly. I was exhausted!
