The Best Day Yet
The Red Bud tree along the pond using full flash on a cloudy morning
Saturday morning off my deck looking south before the sun busted out
I woke Saturday morning right at 730am after yet another rumbling bumbling thunderstorm over night. And this, once again, was loud and accompanied by a good deal of rain.
I woke with lots of energy and got right after my exercises because I knew that once I logged onto my laptop for work that I’d be tied up for at least a couple of hours. As it was, I hurried through my exercises, walked Ykraps, and then hurried home and poured myself a couple cups of strong coffee.
I began getting familiar with where we were with the latest work issue and then gave Mindy a call. It was still only 8:30am.
After talking with Mindy and getting things going at work, I took the opportunity to squeeze in my run. The sun was out and it was feeling good. The run was very enjoyable, but by the time I returned home the sky had clouded back over. I could tell, however, that the cloud cover would be short lived and it was.
For the next couple of hours I worked on house keeping issues like laundry, house plant maintenance, and vacuuming. Mindy showed up sometime around 11:30am and we hung out for a few before she hopped in the shower to ready herself for a manicure/pedicure appointment. She had already tanned before coming over.
While Mindy showered, I went to garage to begin on my list of outdoor projects. The first thing I did was fire up all four of my major yard power tools; tractor, push mower, blower, and edger. The good news is that I was able to get each started without any problem whatsoever. Periodically I kept checking the progress of issues relative to work. Mindy soon left and I began a healthy does of other tasks. First, I walked over to Pat and Lisa's to borrow their chain saw and aluminum extension. I had a number of things that I need both for but most notably was the removal of two tree stumps in my back yard that are always in the way of a direct mower path. I decided that it was time to get them completely out of the picture. I knew exactly what I wanted to and made pretty quick work of it. I sat the ladder up inside my family room in wait of the two new spot lights Mindy would be picking up for the two track light fixtures high above my fireplace. I'd replace both but only one is burnt out and it's been out for at least three years. While inside checking work I cut back all three of my kitchen window plants that have gotten too big and stemmy over the past two or three growing seasons. I also decided to clear the kitchen counter of another old plant that takes up room and leaves its sticky residue on my cabinets and counter top. I really should've done that years ago!
Soon I was back out doors edging my front flower beds and tree wells. Those that have done it know that it's back breaking work done with a 6" square shovel, but it's the only way to do it with professional results. All of the acquired sod and dirt would come in handy backfilling around the stump I removed earlier. Making the job much easier was my John Deere tractor and trailer. No longer did I need to wheel barrow the dirt from one place to another. Instead I'd pull the tractor up, load it in, and drive away to dump. Much easier! Mindy returned from her pampering all while the back breaking work went on. She dawned some shorts and a bikini top to capture some of the suns brilliant rays while sipping a Mike's Hard Lemonade. She also brought some El Vaquero Chips & Salsa out on the deck. We had talked about making guacamole later tonight.
After I finished the edging we washed both her minivan and the BM'er. I don' think that I've ever seen her van clean. It took some elbow grease but when we were done we marveled at the fact that her van really did have shiny paint. We even put Wet n' Black on the tires. It looked almost new by the time we were finished. The BM'er went much quicker for not being so dirty. It simply had a winter's worth of garage dust - that was it. We finished up the vehicle stuff around 6:00pm a retreated inside for more excitement. We replaced the bulbs in the track lights and remounted them, replaced a burnt out bulb on the porch, and removed yet another bird nest from the English ivy on the front of my house. Those birds are relentless. I destroy. They rebuild. After the lighting, we readied for a night out. We opted for a rare Saturday evening at Barley's. It's close, I am on-call, and there food is delicious! /After a couple of showers we were ready to go by 8pm. I did some work related stuff just before heading out too. Work was simply not going to go away this weekend.
Barley's was noticeably dead, but it often is on Saturday's. That didn't bother us, though. We were hungry. I ordered Gates of Hell wings and Mindy ordered salmon. To wash it down, Mindy ordered a Margarita and I ordered a Kiss My Bitter Ass (KMBA) IPA. Everything was fantastic! Before leaving, I had one more beer, and Mindy had only a water. We were back home by 10pm or so. To cap the evening we got in the hot tub. My body ached from all the yard work behind me. It was a beautiful night for hot tubbing, too! After the hot tub we went to bed where I watched a chunk of Saturday Night Live. Mindy snuck the remote form my hands sometime during a weak moment and the next thing I knew I was asleep!
Today marks the twelvth aniversary of living in my home on Newell Dr.
