In Like a Lion but Out Like a Lamb
Drenched in sunshine!
I can’t emphasize enough just how fortunate we’ve been having such nice weather over the past two weeks. I woke again this morning to a superbly beautiful sunrise that was preceded by a waning crescent moon side by side with my favorite bright star. I woke late, however. It was nearly 6am when I came to. My body was achy after all the yard work over the weekend. That coupled with a late bedtime left me a very tired boy.
Because of this, I had little energy for my exercises but knew that once I dug in, I’d begin feeling better in a hurry. So, I groaned through much of my routine as the stiffness slowly left my body. But believe me, it wasn't easy. What worthwhile thing ever is? I know this, too. I felt euphoric once I was done.
I was excited about leashing up Ykraps and hitting the streets. Our walk took us westward and then north for a spell. The air was very fragrant given all the flowering trees in the immediate area. As we closed in on home we took a diverted path since another big dog was coming down the road on our usual side. Back at home I coffee’d, emailed, prepped lunch and made and ate my breakfast all within half an hour. At 7:15am I found myself in the shower readying for the work day.
By 7:33am I was ready for departure. I took a few extra minutes to take some pictures and strum my guitar. Come 7:42am I was backing out the drive.
Work was only moderately busy as compared to most Monday’s of late. I was able to stay afloat and leave for my run at my usual 12:30pm. The weather was noticeably cooler than the past several but it was still completely sunny. The temperature was only 62 degrees. Because of this, I ran with a shirt today. My run went well and was largely effortless once I shook off the rust.
I found my way back to the office immediately after a hot shower. I was eating my packed lunch by 1:45pm. The afternoon went much like the morning. I was busy but not overwhelmed. I was able to comfortably leave for the day at 5:05pm. And while this was a Mindy Monday, I had planned to stop at Home Depot along the way. I was determined to pick-up conduit & more wire to complete the outdoor lighting project that I’m doing at home.
While I was at Home Depot I received a call from my mother, but when she called my hands were full so I left it go to VM. I got everything I needed at Home Depot but admittedly had to make two trips since I forgot to pick-up the 90 degree piece of conduit I needed. Sadly, it took another 20 minutes to check-out the second time because of a burst of activity. My total purchase the second go round was only $.93. :)
I called Mindy once I found my way to my car and was on my way home. Mindy was just arriving at my home. Being the dear that she is, she walked Ykraps for me before I got home. For whatever reason, I had allowed myself, like I often do, to get a little worked up on my way home. It’s a weakness of mine that I’d like to fix. Mindy seems to understand this and almost always allows me time to vent or be alone while I transition from Jim the Mgr to Jim the person. It generally takes me about 30 minutes to unwind.
It’s funny now, but at the time I got really frustrated. It seemed that everything I needed to do was opposed by some type of opposition. For example, I needed to put my running clothes in the dryer, but the dryer was full of clean towels. I needed to put my dirty breakfast dishes in the dishwasher, but the dishwasher was full of clean dishes. I needed to make coffee for tomorrow morning, but the sink was full of soapy water to wash my lunch containers. I threw some junk mail in the trash and caused coffee grounds to scatter all over the kitchen floor. UGH!
I needed to get outside and get cracking on my yard projects. I knew that would make me feel a whole lot better. My first order of business was getting the dirt piles from the trench I had dug on Sunday off the sod so the grass underneath wouldn’t die. Next, I gathered all the trimmings that remained after edging and dumped them on the spot where I removed the old tree stump last weekend. The last thing I did was water the day lillies that I had transplanted on Sunday and then added some water to my hot tub.
While I was busy doing those outdoor chores, Mindy was busy making some wings. What a dear! She also found time to give me a hand here and there when needed. I moved indoors around 7:30pm and helped finish the wings. While waiting the final few minutes, I decided to give my mom a call back. I was a little concerned with what news she might be sharing with me. It turns out that she wanted to vent about brother Tommy and his failing marriage. I allowed her to rant and rage. I know good and well thatTommy would’ve hung up on her had she spoke to him the way she shared her anger with me. I don’t think she realizes how she comes off. Her heart is in the right place but she seems to want blood! In doing so, she has a tendency to alienate others.
Mindy and I enjoyed our wings. We had no other sides as an accompaniment in part becasue Mindy’s hell bent on implementing a low-carb meal plan into her life style. She’s been buried in my Dr Adkins’ book the past few days. What often gets lost on many who take a half hearted attempt at low-carb is that it’s intended to be a life style rather than a fad or temporary diet. Also, one must anticipate and plan for a few set backs and their willpower to be tested. It’s not a walk in the park otherwise everyone would be slim, trim, and firm. Lastly, it takes more than a disciplined eating plan. It also takes a challenging exercise regiment.
After dinner we found our way to the hot tub. Both of us were stiff and sore from recent yard work. We stayed in the hot tub for about 30 minutes. I must admit, since Mindy persuaded me to lower the temperature, it’s a much more inviting soak. After getting out and drying off, we laid around the family room floor for about ten minutes.
By then it was nearly 9:30pm and Mindy needed to head home. She was tired and so was I. In fact, as soon as she left I readied myself for bed. Before falling asleep I did a little reading to get my eyes in that heavy place.
