Warm Weather and a Near Miss
Today was one of those days when the weather forecasters were wrong, but wrong in our favor. The cloudy skies and rain that were expected to plague us through the lion’s share of the day were all but gone come mid-morning. They gave way to beautiful blue skies and soaring spring temperatures. The official high for the day was 78 degrees. And in what was almost comical, the skies began clouding back over right at 5:00pm, leaving the fabulous afternoon’s weather as a faded memory. Good thing I got outside to run!
Despite the day’s gloomy start this was a Friday and Friday’s are always great days. My morning routine went as expected and varied little from any other Friday. The idea of having two days off never felt so good! I was ready for work and out the door by 740am.
Given that it was Friday, I conjured up fears of a terribly busy day. And while we were very busy, I never got so bad that we couldn’t think. I pushed myself to get out of the office at my normal run time of 12:30pm, which I hadn’t been doing a good job of lately. The sunshine and spring warmth was exactly what my tired bones needed.
The afternoon in the office went rather well and the lunch that I packed Wednesday morning still tasted pretty good although I could tell the difference. Thank God for Tupperware! I made it a point to leave the office right after 5pm for wanting to get going with my weekend. Before going home I made a stop by the Dublin Wal-Mart to pick-up Jacob’s birthday present. Unfortunately the warm, sunny weather that blessed us all day long was caving fast. The sky began threatening thunderstorms and a cool breeze was moving in from the NW. The weather man on 610 WTVN said that it was 78 in Portsmouth but only 48 in Toledo – a 30 degree swing!
By the time I was done shopping and home for the evening the temp had already fallen to about 65 degrees. I hurried with getting Ykraps walked as the skies continued to threaten rain. Mindy was on her way over so I wanted to have most of my chores finished before she arrived. This would be the first full weekend that Mindy and I would be spending together since our Portland trip in mid-February. We were both looking forward to some quality time together, but more than anything I was happy that Mindy would be getting two good night’s sleep in-a-row.
After some talk and a drink (Mindy had a glass of wine, I had a Raspberry Vodka and Fresca), we readied for an evening at Barley’s. We left for Barley’s at 8:00pm. We hadn’t seen Bob & Mary Ann in a number of weeks so we were looking forward to sharing some time catching up with them, although we hadn’t verified that they’d be there. However, turns out that they were, and so were Jeremy and Courtney, Josh, Mark & Rick. In addition, my friend Bill showed up as did a pair of Mindy’s friends, Erin and Steve. We had a nice time and let loose a little bit. I think that we stayed till almost 11pm. Over the course of the evening I had three IPA’s and Mindy one or two glasses of wine. For dinner I had the Cuban, and Mindy had the Barley Burger. The food was incredible once again!
Our trip home was a story in itself. We took the freeway as we often do, and as we got off the I-70 west ramp at Wilson Rd we first came upon a State Trooper at the light onto Wilson Rd. Just then a car barreling south on Wilson Rd turned abruptly onto the off ramp instead of the on-ramp. In other words, had we been turning left, there would have been a head-on collision. Mindy noticed the car’s ill fated move first, then I beeped the horn to get his and the officers attention. Well, t he officer saw it too and quickly did a turn around in an effort to chase down the perpetrator. In my rear view I could see the car jumping the curb in an attempt to get in the proper lane. As we proceeded home, the officer seemed to be right on his tail. Not sure whatever came of it, but I am just happy no one was hurt.
Once at home we cozied up on the family room floor and listened to some relaxing music before giving way to some much needed rest.
