Great Friday
Friday began beautifully and there was no reason to expect that to change. This was, after all, a Firkin Friday, and I was looking forward to the weekend despite the fact that I would be on-call and would likely be very busy tending to work related issues throughout.
Because of this, I had already ruled out going to Barley’s, at least on Friday. Too, Mindy’s house was being shown so she asked if she and the kids could come visit between the hours of 6 – 7:30pm, and of course I accepted.
What motivated me most about the upcoming weekend however was the time to work on several yard projects I’ve got on the list. This week has been a transitional week weatherwise and getting on some of these chores is paramount in my mind. The weather forecasted was a bit cooler than it had been all week but still reasonably nice – 70’s partly sunny.
We had had a pretty awesome storm rumble through just before dawn Friday morning. I absolutely love mild overnight thunder storms that give way to a sunny & warm day.
Work was exceptionally busy and we were pushing issues that I knew that I‘d be dealing with all weekend. I’m glad I got my run when I did because it got very tricky during the middle of the day.
As the day wound down, I wasn’t able to escape the office until somewhere around 530pm. And by the time I left, Mindy was practically already to my house. I told her that I’d pick up the pizzas we’d talked about and make a stop at Home Depot since I had to get a few things to assist with my weekend projects.
There was a healthy thunderstorm blowing through just as I left the office. Thankfully it was small and bursty. Even after stopping at Home Depot and Minelli’s, I was still home before 6:30pm. Mindy had already walked Ykraps for me, which I was sure was no small task given the company of Jacob and Bella. She also had straightened up some odds and ends around the house.
We began eating pizza once I was home – all of us. To make Jacob happy I picked up a cheese pizza just for him. Mindy asked if I’d come back over to her house after dinner. But since I was on-calI and needed to be tethered to my laptop I declined.
We thought for awhile that they all might stay with me. Mindy got her kids ready for bed and allowed them to pick a room. It was obvious from the outset that they were not to enthused about sleeping in strange rooms despite their early excitement. That’s a lot to ask a 3 and 6 year old. By 8pm Mindy threw in the towel and loaded the kids in the minivan and headed for her home.
I took the time to get engaged in work related issues and spent the lions share of the evening doing just that. I essentially had no Friday night, and certainly not one like I am used to having. Before going to bed I made myself a vodka and Fresca. It went down easily.
