Baseball, Easter, Eighty Degrees, Yard Work, and often times Mexico

The enemy! Sunday morning came around much faster than either of us had anticipated. Granted, the spring forward thing had taken affect, but that was not all. Both of us, through the night, had been beckoned to the bedside of a child on more than one occasion. Me to Kaileigh’s, and Mindy to Jacob and Bella’s. I woke up at what was now 8:30am (formerly 7:30am). I was a tad frustrated because I felt pressed up against big time deadlines. We had all agreed to attend church together, which I thought began a 10am. With such a timeline, there was no way I could exercise, run, shower, and get Kaileigh ready before needing to leave, I just knew it. And besides, anyone who knows me knows that I don’t like to be rushed! Mindy, what a princess! She encouraged me to run and said that I had plenty of time. She is just so damn calming – certainly not what I am used to. This put my spirits in somewhat of a better place. Soon after a fast cup of coffee and some exercises, I was out the door for my run. To abbreviate the slightly long golf course run I have become accustom to while at Mindy’s, I decided to take to the streets of the golf course neighborhood in lieu of the golf cart path which circles the entire course. This probably shortened the run to about my usual weekend route of four miles. It was sunny too, so that really helped! Upon my return everyone was all but ready for church except for Kaileigh. Her dress was locked in my car. After retrieving her dress, I got myself in the shower and dressed rather quickly. At that point Mindy informed me that church didn’t start until 1030am. What a difference a half an hour makes! We piled into two vehicles and pulled away from Mindy’s at 10:15am. I had all three kids in tow. We arrived at Crossroads United Methodist Church at 10:30am sharp - just in the nick of time. Mass was entertaining and gripping. Pastor Steve does a very good job of communicating with his relatively small congregation. This was a communion Sunday, and one of the few I’ve ever taken part in. Mass ended right around noon. Mindy took her two kids along with her and headed back home where she would be meeting her ex so that he could take them to his parents for a couple of hours. Kaileigh and I were headed to her home where she was to begin getting ready for her Disney adventure. Unfortunately, when we got to her house, which is only a mile from the church, no one was home. To pass some time we ventured over to grandma Kelly’s ( my ex-wife) who lives right around the corner from Kaileigh. I knew that she’d be happy to see both of us. :) Right! OK – that was a stretch. She’d be happy to see Kaileigh – not so happy to see me! Once at Kelly’s, you could see the bewilderment on her face. She had a look of utter frustration, happiness, and curiosity on her face. Too, it appeared that she had just gotten up. I quickly explained our dilemma and she reluctantly accepted our visit. Never did she invite us in, well, at least not me. I took the opportunity to quiz her about Ashley’s latest dilemma, but she wasn’t to warm to discussing any of it. Then again, she never is. I worked hard at constructing my questions in such a manner as not to condemn Kelly’s point-of-view in an attempt to keep the information free flowing. It was difficult because we’ve never seen any where near eye to eye on much of anything much less on issues involving our kids. Furthermore, I made sure to mention in the nicest way possible that while she had denied daughter Lindsey’s request to pick her up at Doctor’s West hospital, Mindy had willing agreed to do it, even though she had her two small children in tow. Kelly, on the other hand, was home by herself. As we were talking, Ashley pulled up. I was happy for that. Kelly had just been hinting about us leaving. Ashley and I chatted about a few things privately. She was noticeably ill from a cold. After a short visit with Ashley, Kaileigh and I once gain took off for her home. But once again, no one was home. This time I decided to simply leave her there alone, thinking they had to be home soon! KIDDING!!!! I decided to just head to my house. Kaileigh seemed happy with that and mentioned seeing Ykraps. Just then Shelly called and informed me that she was at the Grove City stables where they hadn’t yet set their clocks forward. She asked that I meet her at her home in 5 minutes. Finally, things were coming together. I unloaded all of Kaileigh’s stuff and gave her a hug and kiss good bye. I love her so much. She’s such a good spirited kid, and she LOVES ME! By the time I arrived at home, Mindy was already there making our breakfast – scrambled eggs that she’s brought from her home. Remember, we had 18 of those puppies already broken open. I was starving and so was she. By the time we finished eating it was after 2pm. Where in the heck did the day go? Mindy had to depart before 2:30pm to meet her kids at her mom’s. I had about 1 hour and some change to do a little yard work. I used the short time to cut down all of my ornamental grasses left over from last growing season and also trimmed some shrubs. That took me right up until 3:45pm – leaving me just enough time to dress for Mindy’s mom’s. I left the house around 4:05pm with everything I thought that I’d need. I figured I wouldn’t’ be home until 10pm or so. Ykraps wouldn’t need walked prior since I had just walked him at 1:30pm. I arrived at Gloria’s at 4:15pm sharp! Always on time – never late. The sun was shining brightly and Mindy and the kids were out front waiting for me. Almost as soon as I arrived I was asked to pitch some balls to Jacob in the back yard. Jacob can smack the heck out of a baseball for a five year old (soon to be 6). He’s a natural! After about 30 minutes of that we ventured inside for dinner. Tonight we had a scrumptious spread. We had chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, broccoli, chicken and noodles, and other miscellaneous dishes. For dessert we had chocolate mousse and chocolate chip & peanut butter cookies. Way too yummy! We left Gloria’s around 7pm with the sun still rather high in the sky. The children rode with me as they often do. Once at Mindy’s we played in the backyard for a while enjoying the pretty spring evening. Mindy picked up the last of the dog shit left behind by the two dogs her ex had abandoned. She practically filled a Wal-Mart shopping bag. As the sun went down we went in. Soon it was time for the kids to be in bed. We didn’t get them to bed until almost 8:30pm. Once they were down, we sat together on the sofa talking about our weekend, the upcoming week, and the million other things going on in our lives. I left just after 10pm for home, and once there, after walking Ykraps, I grabbed my water, my book, and went to bed. The weekend went extremely fast but was very enjoyable!
