Drip. Drip. Drip.... Ahh... Nasonex
I woke Wednesday morning at my usual 5:30am. Generally speaking, I felt OK but noticed a twinge of soreness in my throat. I shrugged it off and went about my business as I would any other work day. By 5:50am I had completed my calisthenics and was looking for Ykraps so he could take me on my morning walk.
The morning sky was clear and starry and just a bit cool, but a slight breeze remained from the day before. By all accounts, this was predicted to be a warmer, sunnier than the two days prior and I hoped the wind would be calmer too. The soreness in my throat continued with its coming and going. I went about the rest of my morning as any other and was ready for work by the usual 7:30am.
After some guitar picking I was on my way to work ready for just about anything. Like a repeat record, the morning in the office was hectic to say the least. Very busy, but at the same time effective. The soreness in my throat continued to come and go. I felt nothing else. The mid-day workload continued to build and kept me away from my run until after 2pm. I was effectively drained when I peeled myself away for a run for which I had no fast energy for. Still, I laced up my running shoes and toughed it out. I knew the stress I was carrying from a long morning could only be relieved by a 5 mile run. I pushed through the run out against yet another stiff breeze. This is getting old. While the gusts weren’t as strong as the two days prior, they were still strong enough to frustrate my tired and weary body. Finally, at the turn around, I got my reprieve.
The run in was so much easier and almost effortless given a 25 mph breeze at my back.
By the time I returned to my desk it was nearly 3pm and I still had plenty of follow-up work to do. I decided then to forego eating my lunch and instead wait for dinner later with Mindy. We spoke on the phone around 3:30pm when her day wrapped up. She was hoping I could escape a little early for some extra Mindy/Jimmy time. Sadly, I couldn’t. In the time between my run and leaving work the soreness in my throat worsened slightly along with a the onset of a runny nose and sneezing. My fear of an oncoming cold were all but a sure bet. Somehow I had let my guard down and had become stricken with cold symptoms. I don’t get sick! I don’t have time! Marvin K Mooney Will You Please Go Now! I didn’t leave the office until just after 5:30pm, but by the time I was home, Mindy had already walked Ykraps, ran, cleaned up my kitchen, and had some candles lit. It was nice coming home to warm, quiet, inviting environment, especially given the day I had had.
Despite my rough day and these lousy cold symptoms, I was in generally good spirits. After some playing around we decided to make some steaks to complement the salads that Mindy had already prepared and refrigerated. As a side dish we threw in some brussel sprouts. As you know, steaks are easy to cook and by 6:30pm we were eating our delicious home cooked meal. All along, I continued battling a runny nose and a slightly raw throat. But I never fully gave way to the symptoms. After cleaning up the supper dishes Mindy and went up and laid down in my bed for a while. I caved and used some Nasonex for my stuffy nose. That stuff works miraculously! Within minutes I felt almost brand new! We laid together talking quietly for a couple of hours. It was really nice and certainly relaxing, and everyone knows how much I love to relax.
At 9:27pm we tuned in to American Idol just to see who was getting kicked of this week. It was Mandessa. Minutes later the tele was off. Mindy had to go and got up and going shortly after the Idol thing. After she departed I practiced guitar for a spell since tomorrow is lesson night already. After that, I did a little blogging before going to bed. After a another dose of Nasonex, I did some reading and fell asleep.
