Symphony, Salmon, and Sex
OK, I admit it. The symphony and the salmon really happened, but the sex, well, hey, it fit and sounded good.
What’s new? Certainly not waking Saturday morning with a slight, dull headache. Unfortunately, that’s become more the norm. I might want to consider not so much the quantity of beer I drink on Friday night’s but instead, perhaps the type. Inevitably, I seem to wake each Saturday morning feeling a little less than stellar after no more than three Barley drafts. Comparatively, if I drink bottled beer I feel great. My suspicion is the alcohol content which I believe is twice as much in Barley’s routine ale’s like Pale and IPA, and upwards of three times as much in some of their specialty brews like Robert Burns, Jack Frost, and Winter Warmer.
I took two Advil around 730am and went back to sleep till almost 9am. I woke then feeling pretty good. Still, it’s all I can do to avoid feeling panicky waking so late. As you know, I like to have my run done by 900am. To do this comfortably requires me to get out of bed no later than 700am. Mindy had been up since 730am with her kids. She had her famous breakfast casserole baking the oven; I could smell it!
After brushing my teeth and peeing I went for some coffee. Lucky for me, I had accomplished all or most of my personal household chores the night prior so there was no need to stress over what I needed to accomplish today short of getting in a run. After some coffee and breakfast casserole I gathered my belongings and headed home. I must have been somewhere around 1015am.
Once home I decided ot treat what was left of the morning like I had just rolled out of bed. Instead of rushing around and heading out the door with Ykraps, I relaxed and did my normal exercise routine. Soon Ykraps and I were out the door on what was shaping up as a sunny/partly sunny day. I neglected the fact that the morning hours were waning and continued to act as if I’d just got up. That kept me settled inside. I wasted little time after walking Ykraps. After some mediation I readied for a run. I continued listening to downloaded music on my MP3 player while running. I was back home just before 12 noon. All’s OK with my world once my run is in the bag.
I had nothing too stressful or challenging planned for the afternoon. Instead, I would do some shopping and grab some lunch out, hoping to be back home in time for a restful nap, some reading, and guitar – not necessarily in that order. My first stop was Saturday’s to get a hair cut. I hadn’t had one since the second week of December (learned that via my blog). My hair had managed to get pretty long in 40 days. Lucky for me, because I hate to wait, they got me right in, and I got the shorter version of my normal haircut.
Next stop was Max and Erma’s for lunch. But it’s not that I crave Max and Erma’s so much. Instead, I have two gift certificates (one is probably three years old) that I really need to use. I sat at the bar and ordered a lemonade. The Buckeye basketball game was playing so I enjoyed the tail end of that while eating. I had a bowl or Tortilla soup and a Gourmet burger with fries. It was all very good. I couldn’t finish so I got a to-go box for the leftovers.
My next stop was Old Navy where I hoped to find another fleece full-zip jacket to use for running. Sadly, the zipper broke on my otherwise fine existing jacket. I love Old Navy but the only thing is, they don’t keep the same styles for more than one year. You’d be hard pressed to find a repeat of something you liked from the same season a year prior. And as I figured, they didn’t have anything close. I surmise the zipper broke from repeated daily trips inside the dryer. I wash it only once a week but throw it in the dryer every night to ensure dry gear for the following day. Eventually such toil takes its toll on zippers (previous experience). I guess I should learn two lessons for this experience. One, if I find something I really like at Old Navy, buy two! Secondly, avoid the everyday dryer routine if possible. Of course, I can find comparable gear at a sports store such as Dick’s but the price will be upwards of three to four times what Old Navy charges.
Next stop was Westpointe video. I had been looking for The 40 Year Old Virgin for a couple of weeks in the widescreen – unrated version. They didn’t disappoint. They had it. Not too many people no about this place but they have the best prices everyday on DVD’s anywhere. All their DVD’s are $14.95 unless it’s a special edition or collection. I also bought Red Eye, a Wes Craven thriller.
Next stop, Wal-Mart. I needed to grab about six grocery items to tie me over till next weekend’s regular grocery shopping spree. Too, I wanted to grab some light test fishing line to fix my Magic Worm and a couple of inexpensive picture frames. I was successful on all counts.
It was now almost 315pm. I gave Mindy a call on my way home to see how her day was going. She had just finished getting her haircut and was heading to pick-up her son from a birthday party. We would be getting back together at her house around 6pm in preparation for our symphony date. She had a number things remaining to do. I simply had to get home, put away the day’s haul, and take an afternoon nap!
After putting away groceries and some laundry, framing my pics, and fixing my Magic Worm, I headed upstairs for some reading and a nap. I read bout ten pages or so before feeling helplessly sleepy and ultimately drifting off to sleep. I slept for about 1.5 hours. I was out cold! Nothing like a lengthy power nap on a Saturday afternoon! After waking, I wandered down stairs to collect my thoughts and stack the rest of my evening. To aid in this quest, I picked up my guitar and played. At 510pm I tied up Ykraps and took him on yet another walk.
Back home I quickly showered and readied for our symphony date. I packed my bag for overnight still unsure if I would be sleeping at Mindy’s, but wanted to be prepared just the same.
I left for her place at 555pm. I really needed gas so I stopped along the way. I should’ve gassed up earlier but didn’t. Now I had to pay the price of smelly gas hands!
I arrived at Mindy’s around 615pm. She was till getting ready. The children greeted me. I helped get Jacob fed. Soon Mindy came down, and she looked take my breath away stunning in her new dress that we bought the week prior. She had a new $25 sun tan and a haircut that only accentuated her existing beauty. Within minutes, Ashley and Stephen arrived. Ashley was babysitting for us tonight. After getting everyone acclimated, Mindy and I were out the door, probably around 645pm.
Our first stop was back at my house so that I could take an anti-inflammatory since my shoulder was aching a little. While there we decided to have a drink – Mindy a glass of wine, me a raspberry vodka and club soda.
Finally, we were on our way to the symphony! We arrived with relatively little time to spare after parking in the attached garage. The Ohio Theatre was even more beautiful than I remember it being. Our seats were in row “S” right of center. All in all, pretty good seats. The Columbus Symphony Orchestra played three of Mozart’s symphonies – 39, 40, & 41. They took an intermission after the first. During the intermission we took a quick tour of the venue taking in all the ornate detail the theatre houses. After finding our seats, the orchestra finished by playing the 40th & 41st of Mozart’s symphonies. Without a doubt, my favorite was symphony #40. Mindy enjoyed #41 most. The performance lasted collectively about 1 and three quarter hours. By the end, both Mindy and I were starving! After a short wait exiting the parking garage, we headed directly to the Columbus Brewing Company, a Cameron Mitchell restaurant in the brewery district. We arrived just after 10pm, but they were still serving, thankfully. I ordered a Columbus Pale Ale and Mindy a Cabernet. Together we shared some roasted calamari. As entrée’s we both ordered the salmon broiled and served over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes. I had mine with sautéed vegetables, and Mindy had hers with asparagus. Everything was tasty as always. After dinner, I had one more C.P.A. It’s delicious in a bottle; it’s even better on tap!
As our dinner settled, both of us were getting sleepy. We could take no more fun. We headed directly back to Mindy’s house. Ashley and Stephen were sitting like mannequins on the couch watching television. What, does she think that I was born yesterday? J Anyways, after Mindy paid Ashley a handsome ransom for watching kids they up & bailed. We then retired for the night.
