It's a Barley's Friday
Now I had every intention of waking at 530am but didn’t. I cracked an eye and saw that it was 500am and made the conscious decision to sleep for another 30 minutes or so. Unfortunately, that 30 minutes turned into 1 hour. But I shrugged it off and went about my morning as I would any other day.
Toes tucked under the edge of the sofa, I grunted out my usual 55 sit-ups and then my 50 push-ups. I threw in a round of curls just for shits and grins. Today is really not my lifting day. Out the door with Ykraps I noticed a distinct difference in the air. It felt wintry again. Almost cold! It was around 26 degrees. But it was still cloudy which helps retain the moisture in the air making it feel warmer. Our walk netted lots of number one and a long drawn out number 2. Sometimes I lose my patience waiting for Ykraps to do his business. He’s very picky about where he goes. From observation only, it seems he has to find just the right scent or he loses the urge! Hmmm?
Back at home the coffee was smelling grand. A snack for Ykraps and coffee for me. All is right with the world. My morning meditation was a bit challenging as I couldn’t quite clear the chatter that was all a buzz inside. I’ve learned to not beat myself up when this happens, but instead to embrace it for what it is – an off day- and then move on. I still felt pretty darn good!
Before packing my lunch and making my breakfast I sent Mindy a quick email and threw Wednesday’s blog entry online. It occurred to me that I hadn’t snapped any pics the past couple of days. That hasn’t happened in a while. I’ll be taking some later today though.
After finishing my food prep I woofed down my eggs then scurried upstairs to rinse the dead skin cells that have accumulated over the last 17 hours. Being the multi-tasker that I am, I put away two loads of laundry while showering and dressing. You try it! It felt grand having already wiped out one of my weekend tasks, and it's only Friday morning. I have only one small load of whites left to do. Today would be a jean day with a black t-shirt and my black zip sweater. Very comfortable attire. I can always tell if I have gained or lost weight over the week when I put on a pair of clean jeans. That tells all. Worn jeans don’t count.
It became clear that I was going to be late for work, so instead of rushing, I took my time and completed a few other tiny yet tedious to-do’s around the house. Soon, I was out the door. I called Mindy on the way to work to see how her night was. I arrived at work at 825am.
The early part of the day was busy as are most Friday’s. Busy, but bearable. I worked diligently and remained on task until my lunch time run rolled around. I haven’t been getting out until about 1230pm of late. That’s more me than anything else, though. Today would be about 10 degrees colder than yesterday and almost 20 degrees cooler than Tuesday and Wednesday. It was 27 when I headed down. I was happy because I have been a little too warm the past few days. It’s hard to dress for 40 degrees. Too chilly for no jacket, but too warm for the two layers I had. The new dri-fit shirt I have is probably twice as thick as my others. It alone with my fleece jacket was just right for today’s temp. I’ll have to remember that. I started my run with my MP3 player attached but the battery died right out the door. That turned my run into a contemplative one.
The afternoon flew by. Before I knew it, it was time to tie up my loose ends and prepare for the fist full weekend of 2006. I love Fridays! On my way home I took notice of a sky that's already brightening noticeable at rush hour. Indeed the tides are turning! At home I went about my usual Friday evening routine which is much more relaxed than a "school night" for not needing to prep the coffee and wash the lunch containers for a day anew. After walking Ykraps I reduced my personal body coverings to a mere pair of flannel boxer shorts and went about adding a second coat of paint to my bed. I should point out that I'm giving serious consideration to leaving the bed and nightstand the "sawdust" color that I had originally selected to be the base coat under the "crackle" finish. It's a very nice neutral beige that swings towards the greens. Anyone who has played with the beiges knows that you can't really tell what color is at its root until you contrast/compare it with others of a different origin. Regardless, it is a color that will work with the entire palette of colors and might just be a better, less masculine look for one of the most prominent pieces of furniture in the room. I know this, it complements the new black book case I bought myself last week nicely. Another advantage of leaving it as is, I can always do the crackle later if so choose simply by picking up where I left off. Time flew by. Soon Princess was at my home. It was some where around 720pm. We were planning a night at Barley's with the usual cast of characters along with a slew of Mindy's school teacher peeps, and a co-worker/friend of mine.
I finished about 2/3's of the second coat. I felt good about the accomplishment. After a quick clean-up, I resorted to cleaning myself and changing from my flannel boxers into something a little more acceptable for Barley's! We arrived around our usual 830pm. It was standing room only at the bar, as usual. One thing I have learned over the years, however, is that the bar cycles seats fairly quickly on Friday's. Many of the guests are happy hour leftovers and typically call it a night sometime around 9pm, about the time I am getting started. You see, I need that transition time I spoke of briefly between my roles (work and play). We found Bob and Mary Ann in the corner hiding from us, as well as a few of Mindy's friends form school. I had invited my buddy, Bill so that he could peruse the single school teachers Mindy had invited. Two of these young ladies are very available and seem to be of superior quality with lots of marble (you know, kinda like a piece of steak) :) We had fun. I had four beers over the course of the entire evening. I had to IPA's, one St Nicks, and one Jack Frost. That was more than enough to give to take the edge off. Mindy had her usual wine. A mistake made by me was that I didn't eat. If I have learned anything over the years, if you don't eat a good meal while drinking beer, you're much more likely to get "Saturday morning beer head".
The gathering broke up sometime after midnight and everyone went their separate ways. Mindy and I headed back to my house, still not certain if I was going to stay home or follow her back to her place. Once back at my house, we decided that I would indeed follow her home. I guess you could say in a moment of weakness! :)
