Who's in a Pissy Mood?
Bella's one of those kids that does as she pleases despite being told otherwise

Just hanging around
I woke a number of times through the night but really didn’t sleep all that poorly. However, as is often the case, both of my shoulders, especially the left one, was aching enough to distract me. I think it’s a combination of the mattress and the chilliness that abounds in her room. Like usual, the kids were up before the crack of dawn and tugging at their mother. And like most kids, they wake earlier on the weekend than they do during the week. Go figure!
The kids had me up and playing by 7:40am. I found myself a cup of coffee shortly thereafter. And by 8:00am, I had my tennis shoes on in preparation for exercises. Mindy asked if we wanted eggs and bacon. Everybody said yes. So, while the kids and I exercised, Mindy made the food. She’s become very adept at making bacon and scrambled eggs - two things she once told she couldn’t make well.
While we ate and the morning passed, Mindy asked if I were planning to run from her home or at mine. I had already decided I’d be running at home for wanting to tend to Ykraps and get busy with some chores before much of the day got away. Mindy wanted to go tanning too, so I volunteered to watch the kids while she did. She wasn’t gone long at all, and we stayed pretty busy cleaning up around the kitchen and playing. She was back before 1000am.
When she did return, I gathered my things and set out for home. I would be seeing the kids and Mindy again come 1pm since I had agreed to watch them while Mindy went shopping with her mom. On my list of things to accomplish in the next 2.5 hours was running, a few chores, and cutting as much of the lawn as possible. I didn’t really care if it rained as long as it didn’t pour.
When I got home I took acre of Ykraps and then a few miscellaneous chores. I was still fairly tired and wanted a nap but knew better. Instead, I rounded up my running gear and head out for four miles. My run was somewhat anticlimactic. I was back before the clock hit 1115am. But once I was back I didn’t slow down. Instead I moved right into lawn work mode.
I was out the door to weed whack and edge ten minutes later. While trimming, the line advance feature of machine continued causing me troubles despite countless tries to get it corrected. Then, after attaching the edger unit, the engine began to stall for no apparent reason. Now I was getting frustrated. This thing has been nothing but trouble since I bought it three years ago. To my dismay, both the wacker/edger and the new blower I bought are both problematic. I had two others that were practically maintenance free for 15 years. Because I had limited time, I sat the trimmer/edger aside and moved on to cutting the lawn. I cut as much as I could right up until 1230pm. I wanted to give myself enough time to get cleaned up before Mindy and company arrived. After getting things squared away, I called Mindy. She let me know that she wouldn’t be there until somewhere closer to 1:40pm. Had I known, I could’ve gotten the entire lawn cut. Oh well!
With the time I had remaining, I went out to the garage to see what if anything I could do for my Toro trimmer once again. After taking it apart I found that the engine body had vibrated loose from the mount causing the stalling. After getting it retightened and cleaned. I had it running well again. I decided that when I later went to Home Depot that I would buy a new cutting head for the trimmer and a new blade for the edger attachment. Hopefully, that’ll be the end of the ongoing issues with it. After wards I got out my blower/vac. It’s having issues too. Not only is it running poorly, it’s also not blowing at full capacity, and it’s leaking fuel/oil mixture. This seems to indicate that something isn’t seated right, or maybe a gasket is blown. Regardless, this is getting old!
At 1:20pm I went back in to get cleaned off before Mindy arrived. I was not in the best frame of mind. I was now frustrated with my lawn tools and not finished with anything I had planned on finishing. In addition, I was tired. In a half baked attempt to relax, I caged Ykraps and then settled into my reading chair with my book. I did some reading but wasn’t comprehending very well. Still, it worked a little bit.
Mindy and her mother, along with the children showed up around 1:40pm. I was also nervous about her mother coming over to my house. She hadn’t been over before. I am always self- conscious about someone coming over to my house, especially for the first time. They didn’t stay long before Mindy and Gloria left for their shopping spree. I readied the kids for a walk to the neighborhood park. I was certain that they’d have a good time on the play sets available there. Wisely, I didn’t take Ykraps, but did take my camera.
It’s about a ¼ mile walk to the park, and when you’re walking with a 3 & 6 year old, it always seems farther. They must have asked “are we there yet?” five times. Finally, we were there. They were excited as foretold by their dash for the playground once it was in their view. We played for about 30 minutes all told. The biggest mistake I made was not asking the ‘potty’ question before leaving the house. Jacob insisted he had to go and go now! And when he said he had to go, Bella chimed in just the same. I pointed out the convenience of the nearby woods and the local brush. Jacob saw that as a viable alternative to walking all the way back home. Bella did not. What I didn’t realize at the time was which number he had to do, or should I say, “do-do”.
Next thing I know, he’s over in the brush pushing out a Lincoln log! Oh boy! Hope none of the nearby homeowners were zeroing in on us. After a little more playing, Bella asked that we head back for needing use of the facilities despite Jacob’s insistence that she also use the woods. We began heading back.
As one might expect, I got the same questions on the way home that I got on the way thee. “Are we there yet?” Bella stopped abruptly a number of times along the way. I was not certain but assumed her to be either holding it in or relieving herself on the spot. Neither was the case. Soon we were back and she headed right for the potty. She stunk up my bathroom in a hurry and in an act of revenge, insisted that I wipe her! I pleaded that she do it herself but she said she couldn’t. Oh boy!
When she finished, we all went out back to play in the back yard. Jacob wanted to hunt down frogs and chase the geese. I made the mistake of pointing out the many piles of goose poop in my yard to the kids. It didn’t inhibit Bella at all. It did, however, stop Jacob in his tracks. He insisted that I come back and carry him. Not a chance! I encouraged him to step around it. Soon he joined us pond side. He was a little worried how to get back without becoming covered in goose dung though.
My only concern was shoe removal once on the deck. Once we were back inside, the kids wanted yet another snack. Now I may be wrong, but when I was little I don’t ever recall eating so darn much. And my kids, while they had more snacks than I did, these two eat constantly. They eat literally non-stop – no exaggeration!
After they played in Kaileigh’s room for a spell, they came back down for more snacks and wanted to watch a movie. The dilemma was that they both selected different titles. To not be one sided, I told them we couldn’t watch anything until they happily agreed on one. They chose Silence of the Lambs – kidding! No, they chose Elf.
They were fully entertained to be sure. While they were entertained, I fell asleep a couple of times. Each time Jacob woke me by hollering my name! ERRRRRRRRRR! Soon Mindy arrived from her shopping spree. I thing it was almost 415pm. She deserves some free time away, though she gets very little. I was tired and felt ready for some quiet time. I had toyed with finishing my mowing as they prepared to leave, but that’s when the rain started gain but this time fairly heavily. Certainly too heavy to mow in.
After they departed, I showered and then prepared a list for Home Depot and Kroger. I needed another extension cord reel, duct tape, and trimmer parts. Also, I thought that I’d look at new blowers and trimmers just in case. At Kroger I needed to get the goods to make potato salad and my famous chocolate chip cheesecake cookie for Mindy’s brother’s family get-together tomorrow in celebration of Mother’s Day.
By 5:30 I was at Home Depot getting what I needed. From there I moved down the street to Kroger. I was home by 7pm and the first thing I did was walk Ykraps. I thought that if I could whip out both treats in about an hour that I might sneak off to Barley’s for some hot wings and a cold draught beer. Ha ha ha! By the time I finished making the potato salad, the dessert, and cleaning up, it was after 9pm. There would be no going out – not tonight! Just as well, though. Instead, I would get a good night’s rest and maybe even an early start to my Sunday.
