May Day - May Day - May Day

Alas, I can breathe a cy of relief now that May has officially arrived. Among other things, I can safely put my snow boots away and think pleasant thoughts geared towards spring, and maybe even summer. By now, the chances of a gripping cold snap are almost negligible. I take solace in that. I quietly celebrate the fact that it's May. No longer am I tempted to hit the accelerator and wish time away. Instead, I can easily live in the moment and relish the thought of pleasant weather, which better coincides with my internal nature. As May makes its debut, we can only hope that the fabulous spring weather we’ve become accustom to continues. In years past, the weather forecasters have historically seemed way too optimistic and consequently weather watchers like me would be let down when the bottom would fall out of their flowery forecast. This year, however, has been strikingly different. If anything, they have often erred towards caution, and the lower temps and cloudy skies predicted turn into sunny skies and significantly warmer temperatures. Sunday’s gray skies quickly relinquished their hold and it appeared that we would have yet another beautiful spring day despite their being a few lingering clouds about. I woke a little later than I really wanted (Somewhere close to 5:50am) but still early enough to not fall behind since I have lots of pad built into my morning by design. I was dragging butt after not going to bed until 1130pm the night before. Still, I sucked it up and got busy with my morning exercises. But by the time they were in the bag and Ykraps was walked, I was wide awake and ready for another work week. With all this in mind I pressed on with my day and was ready to depart come 7:40am. After a pleasant three day weekend, it was time to return to work refreshed. I arrived to work right on time and wished Mindy well in her day as I entered the building. My morning in the office was surprisingly calm, especially for a Monday. No complaints! Before long the morning waned and run time came around. I left for the gym right at 12:30pm. The sun had been shining for the past couple of hours but by now the sun was sharing the sky with lots of harmless looking clouds. As it turned out, the sun took a break behind those clouds during the better part of my run. There were clear blue skies to the east, clouds overhead, but more clear blue skies approaching from the west. In fact, as I was finishing my run the sun returned to further warm the air and brighten the day. My return to the office represented an end to my raging hunger. I was ready for lunch, indeed. Over all the afternoon went as well as the morning. It certainly could’ve been so much worse. I wrapped up my day by 5:10pm and headed for home. This was a Mindy Monday and we chatted via cell through most of my ride home. I was home only minutes before she arrived. Consequently, she joined Ykraps and I on our evening stroll. When we got back we quickly decided to go out for food rather than cooking at home. Mindy’s realizing that selecting a restaurant is a bit harder when one’s trying to reduce/eliminate carbs. We decided on Barley’s since we could have one of our favorites, hot wings! Barley’s was crowded for a Monday but it was Wing night – wings for $.33 each. We each ordered ten. I had my usual Gates of Hell, and Mindy had Honey Chipotle. Our bill was extremely low in comparison to the usual. It’s eye opening to realize just how expensive alcohol is. On our way home we passed a Honda Accord wagon for sale across from Raymond Memorial golf course. We stopped and copied down the number and peaked inside. Once at home I headed out on the deck to play some guitar and shoot some geese that were making a shitty mess of my backyard. After a few minutes of playing around, I called about the Honda. Bottom line, they wanted entirely too much. As the evening passed, Mindy spoke by cell with her kids before they headed off to bed. Next, we went inside to view all the pictures we took over the weekend. Mindy has committed to making a concerted effort to be home on Monday’s and Wednesday’s by 8:30pm to appease her ex. This was his ammunition for keeping his word about taking the kids every other weekend as agreed to in writing. With that in mind, Mindy left right around 8:30pm. I spent the next hour and fifteen minutes updating my blog. I was behind by four days. I was able to catch up. At 9:45pm I popped some popcorn and did some reading. By 10:05pm I was heading to bed. Just before crawling under the covers, I gave my Princess a call to wish her a good night’s rest. May Day- a centuries old pagan celebration marked the halfway point between spring and summer when everything sprung into growth. The time when all the fields and valleys came alive. This represented fertility and was celebrated by the errection of a maypole which was often accompanied by ribbons created with greenery and flowers.
