The Days of Lint

Tough Job! Late Easter Pic, but since it has a close link to Lint... Excited what the day might hold in store weather-wise, I was eager to get out of bed and check the status of the overnight rain. Since we had traded our warm sunny weather for something less colorful, I wanted and expected it to rain and rain a lot. I work to hard on my lawn and landscape to have it dry out so early in the season. But given my choice, I’d prefer some of those awesome overnight storms like we had in April where we’d rock all night only to wake to clearing skies. Nothing makes the grass thicker and greener than an overnight storm followed by warmth and an abundance of sunshine the following day. So far it looks like the overnight rains skipped us over. It did rain fairly heavily the evening before, however, but since we hadn’t had much if any in two weeks, I knew we needed more. Of course I can’t control that so on with the things I can control. After choking down one of my vitamins I tucked my toes under the edge of the sofa and began crunching out my sit-ups. Lat Sunday I was faced with what to do about my sit-up shoes. I thought then that I might have to chuck them and buy a new pair since one of the soles was flapping like a loose long tongue causing me to trip when walking. I use them for three things: sit-ups, walking Ykraps, and boating. And while they’re a quality boat shoe, they’re well over five years old. Spending $60 on a new pair seems a bit wasteful and excessive. Before chucking them I decided to try this RV glue I bought last summer. I loaded it on thick and then placed a clamp on the left shoe for good measure. Long story short, it worked. So far there working like new! After my sit-ups I kicked out 50 push-ups and then proceeded to crank out my 40 curls. Before I knew it, Ykraps and I were outside, but before walking we first placed the trash can at the curb and then went walking the streets foraging for food. Nah - just kidding. We were looking for night crawlers. Nah – kidding again. We were looking for – well, actually, we weren’t looking for anything. We out there for one reason and one reason only - that was so Ykraps could do his business. By 6:04am we were back and I hurried over to the coffee pot seeking my treat. Ykraps quietly positioned himself in front of the pantry door seeking his. Well, you can bet that his treat won’t include bacon grease! It’ll be milk bones exclusively. After enjoying some coffee I settled as I always do for a morning meditation, and then proceeded to send an email to Mindy and read the daily OM. Today’s Daily OM was incredibly relevant as many often are. Check it out! Come 6:30am sharp, I was at the cutting board preparing my lunch and breakfast. I almost panicked when I discovered that I had no lettuce to bed my turkey and cheese on. I searched the fridge three times looking for the fresh red lettuce I bought last Saturday. I was certain that it had to be thee. It wasn’t. In the end I had to prep my lunch minus the lettuce. Not only do I like eating lettuce but it looks so decorative setting on a bed of fresh lettuce. For a day or tow I can get past it, though. At 7:00am I was in the shower readying my pretty face for the entire world to see. I took notice of the wonderful job that the Clorox Cleaner with Bleach is doing at keeping my shower bright white and mildew free. Somewhere along the line, I had stopped buying a bathroom cleaner with bleach and was wondering why despite my regular scrubbing efforts that the caulking and tile were mildewing and discoloring quicker. Mindy pointed out the flaw in my cleaner last weekend. Thanks Mindy! I like my shower bright and white! I was ready to go by 7:25am and took just a couple minutes to whip out a few scales on the guitar before leaving. The drive was uneventful and I was at the office ten minutes early. Again, leaving the house at 7:30am does wonders. My morning in the office went rather well. We were only mildly slammed. I was able to escape for my run at 12:45pm. Unfortunately, it had just started raining and raining rather hard when I came out of the locker room ready to hit the door. It was only 53 degrees, too. I sort of wished I had brought my long running pants, but also knew that the legs are the least of ones worry. I did have two upper layers and was fine with that. I waited about five minutes then decided to suck it up and charge out the door. It’s more about attitude than it is anything else. I was just a tad chilly for about three minutes. Aside from that, I was fine. The wind was whipping and gusting to 36 mph, and the rain occasionally driving into my face, but once again, I was fine. By the time I hit the turn around, I was on fire and it felt kind of nice. After the run the shower felt really good. I was back in my office before 2pm ready to tackle the best the afternoon had. By 5:00pm it was clear that the work day would go down as a good one with few curve balls thrown my way. I was excited about the evening since I had placed few things on my agenda. Mindy was spending the evening at home catching up with her kids and on household duties and I was planning to do loosely the same, although I didn't have an overly aggressive agenda. After walking Ykraps, running the dishwasher and starting a load of laundry, I was open! I decided to tackle a few off the wall chores that hadn't been done in a awfully long time. One, I cleaned the dryer vent duct. First, I cleaned the tail to the dryer which went pretty quick. I pulled enough lint out of it to stuff a medium sized teddy bear. Next, I went to the basement and took the rather long run apart halfway, which I hadn't done in at least five years, probably longer. It wasn't clogged but it was pretty full of lint. My fish tape did little to clean it thoroughly. I decided to stuff an old t-shirt in and then force it through with the fish tape. That sounded reasonable but didn't go so smoothly. I ended up having to take it apart in another spot halfway (about 4 more feet in). Then, I was able to clean the entire run well. When it was all said and done, I had enough lint to make a bed pillow. After cleaning everything up, I returned upstairs to water all my house plants and tune into the Reds game. While passively observing, I played guitar for about one hour. After guitar I added pictures to my blog for the past several days. I tried calling Mindy sometime around 9:00pm but didn't get her. I assumed her sleeping early. That, or out drinking irresponsibly with her gal pals! :) I watched the Reds blow a 1-0 lead over the Nationals in the top of the ninth, and even watched as the game proceeded into extra innings. I read fro about 9:30-10:00pm but decided to go to bed and get a good nights sleep. For good measure, I tuned my bedroom TV to the Reds game since it was still 1-1 in the top of the 11th inning only to see the Nationals crack a homer and take a 2-1 lead. Even though the Reds still had an at bat. I turned it off assuming them to lose.I was asleep quickly.
