The Other White Meat

Sleeping well the night before, I was up early Thursday morning – about 520am. My throat was still mildly sore and my sinuses clogged. I may need some antibiotics to get beyond this lingering cold. I was happy to see no new snow laying on the drive and walk for once as I headed down the stairs. That would save me 5-10 minutes of shoveling. I pushed through my exercises then headed out with Ykraps. He hadn’t pooped in like three days, but he finally did during our morning walk, but still only minimally. I spent adequate time on the PC afterwards sipping coffee and surfing the net. It was quite relaxing. I woke Mindy at the usual time – 610am with a cup of coffee. I complained about my lingering cold. She offered to call Craig. I read the Daily OM before moving on to meditation & stretching. As usual, both felt extremely good. It was a tad warmer today than many past. It was a balmy 21 degrees. I didn’t alter my garb at all. I left for my run around 640am and ran the full four mile track. It was an enjoyable run without incident. My thoughts turned towards the Vikings and how they might fare in the coming playoffs. I realize that we’ll be in Holiday Valley skiing that Sunday afternoon & unwilling to waste good ski time watching the game. I’ll have to DVR and perhaps catch bits and pieces in the lodge during breaks. Back home Mindy had my eggs ready. I immediately complained about them being much too runny. I fired the stove up and threw 'em back in the pan for another minute. At the same time, I fed Ykraps his eggs along with his Tramadol. Mindy was off to school and me off to the shower. I was ready to go by 756am. The kids were already bundling at the door as I made my way down the stairs. Kenny was at the bus stop with Lillian and Makayla for the first time since Xmas. We talked briefly about the approaching snow storm – supposed to get 3-6 inches by Friday AM, but beginning mid-morning. After warming the Trooper I was happily off to work. Work was busy, and I guess I am, and should be, thankful for that. Once again, I didn’t take a lunch. And as the day wore on work related stress began to mount. I wasn’t a pleasant man to be around, I admit it. In fact, I lashed out at one of my engineer’s. I apologized for my abrupt behavior later, but was extremely disappointed in myself for doing it in the first place. You’ll have that from time to time. I was angry all afternoon. In fact, I drove home that way at day’s end. I could see that it was snowing earlier but it never appeared to be ‘heavy’ whenever I glanced out the window. The snow was piling up pretty well when I left. Plus, it was light and fluffy. Probably no more than 3-4 inches, but that was on top of about three already there. I stopped at Kroger on my way home wanting to look for soft/chewy dog food for Ykraps. I couldn’t find anything in a bag, but did find something by Pet Pride that resembled the old Kenelration from years gone by. I also bought a small bag of some new Purina designer stuff that had some dry and moist chunks. I rounded up to the nearest dollar for charity. Good plan! Homeward! The drive home was slow, slow. I-270 was at a crawl. The freeway was a mess - a snow slurry. It must’ve taken a good 40 minutes. The house smelt terrific. It was dinner. Mindy mixed leftover pork roast and taco seasoning. We were having pork tacos and burritos – yummy! I walked Ykraps in the cold and snow. I was impressed with how fluffy the new blanket of snow was. By the way, setting on the rear deck was my new Thule cargo carrier, delivered as planned. Very cool! Dinner was absolutely delicious. I filled myself with a burrito and taco. I poured some of the new food for Ykraps. He took a liking to it right away. He struggled choking it down but it appeared to go down far easier that the dry Purina chunks. It’s the most I’ve seen him eat in one setting for a couple of weeks. I plan to call the vet tomorrow to order more Tramadol. After dinner clean-up I returned to my PC to tweak it’s config a bit. I’m not happy with the sleep timer and such. I also wanted to do a little blogging. I spent no more than 45 minutes on the PC, or until 830pm, and time for the national championship game. Mindy had the kids get showers and then insisted on a reasonable bedtime. Both have been overtired and cranky lately. They were in bed by 9pm. Bella wasn’t yet asleep, however. Mindy headed for bed just before 930pm. I planned to watch the NC game at least until halftime. I fell asleep during halftime. I felt really bad for Colt McCoy, getting hurt on the first series and all. I’ve said for some time, I hope the Vikings draft him. He’s got the heart I want to see in my quarterback. I woke as halftime wound down and headed for bed. I felt really tired. But like often happens, once in bed I couldn’t sleep. After tossing and turning for 15 minutes I got back up and headed downstairs to rejoin the NC game. I popped some popcorn and grabbed a Coke Zero. I half expected Bella to pop out of bed once she smelt the popcorn but she didn’t. I watched the rest of the game. Texas somehow got back into the game and actually had a chance to win with three minutes to play, down 24-21, and the ball on their own 7 yard line. But almost as quick as their comeback mounted, the game quickly got out of reach. After a fumble and an interception they were behind 37-21 and lost. Good night Irene!
