Oregon Trail
I knew heading to bed that I drank too much champagne while ringing in the new year, but at least I was smart enough to choke down 3 Advil beforehand. However, even that didn’t prevent a dull headache at sunrise. We stayed up until 2am. Waking early wouldn’t be in the cards. But come 815am I drug myself from bed to get the day rolling. Once I was up I didn’t feel that bad after all, but I took more Advil just in case.
I exercised and walked Ykraps. Just like the old year, 2009, above freezing temps were a thing of the past. It was only 20 degrees and snowing lightly. I bundled accordingly for my walk with Ykraps. Being a traditionalist, I tuned into the Rose Parade after our walk, but didn’t really watch. Instead, I spent time on my PC updating my Blog and downloading photos. The house remained quiet for a good long time. No one else was up until 10am or after.
Lindsey called around 11am and asked if she and the kids could come over for a visit. Sounded like she and Kelly were fighting. I could hear Kelly swearing like a drunken sailor in the background. Shameful! I asked that Kelly bring them over while we agreed to take them home later in the day.
I didn’t leave for my run until almost 1130am – a late start indeed, but I didn’t care. I was determined not to be rushed. I wisely did a thorough stretch before heading out. Football was already underway. Can’t recall which bowls, however. I ran four miles and it felt darn good.
The kids and Lindsey were already at the house when I returned. Lindsey was helping Mindy take down our Xmas tree. I left them to the deed until my help was summoned to remove the tree top. I was very happy to finally get the house back to normal. Mindy stayed after it until all signs of Xmas were put away.
Because we planned on skiing all day Saturday, Mindy planned to grocery shop during the early afternoon. She asked if I minded staying home with all the kids while she Lindsey went grocery shopping. I didn't mind. I watched football and actually did a little work, too, after receiving a call for help.
Dad dropped off brother Glenn around 3pm after a three day hiatus down at Mom’s place. Dad didn’t stay long. Probably left around 415pm. Seemed interested in getting home in time for the big game. Mindy was still at the grocery but arrived home minutes later. We all planned on heading down to Chrissy & Kenny’s Rose Bowl party near kick-off. We unloaded groceries then ate homemade chicken & noodles before heading down. We watched the first quarter from home. The Buckeyes lead 7-0 when we headed to the neighbors.
The neighbors had a crowd already, including Julie & Mike, Julie's mom, Ben & Ryan, Rachel, Guy & Missy along with everyone's kids. We blended right in. There 8 of us. The house rocked when the Buckeyes broke the game open and then held on for huge Rose Bowl victory, 26-17 over Oregon. Glenn made it known that he was pulling for Oregon. He was heckled lightly throughout the night. I should be noted that I predicted the Buckeyes would prevail 26-20. Close!
After the game the party was just getting started. It went from the Rose Bowl to lots of music and dancing. Long story short, we partied until after 1am. Mindy claims it was closer to 2am when we all stumbled home. Even Lindsey had fun. As Mindy later shared, she had eyes for a couple of Kenny's employees.
