Forgot your coat? It's 14 degrees!

After a lot of fun the night before, I didn't wake until after 830am Saturday. We planned on skiing but there was no reason to hurry. We had all day. We had a house full. Glenn was asleep in the guest room, while Lindsey and her two boys, Landon and Rocky, slept on the air matress in Bella's room. I was mindful of our little guests & remained as stealthy as possible while going about my morning business. I wanted badly to exercise/relax in peace. It snowed more overnight and it was cold - only 12 degrees. I enjoyed my alone time, completing my exercies, walking Ykraps, and sipping coffee. I woke Mindy with a cup of hot coffee before heading out on my run. I bundled warmly and headed out around 930am. I ran just three miles knowing I'd be skiing most of the day. Everyone was up when I returned from my run. Everyone but Glenn, that is. He's been sleeping until noon pretty much throughout his stay. I helped make breakfast for the kids then made a big pan of scrambled eggs. I was determiend to eat a good breakfast prior to skiing. Mindy and I discussed logistics. She would run Lindsey and boys home while I made sandwiches and organized our ski gear. Sounded good to me. She showered befoe taking them home. I packed our lunch while she showered and my own shower soon after they left. By the time Mindy was home I was pretty much ready. I was dressed, had our lunch packed, and all of our ski gear accounted for and ready. Glenn woke sometime after 11am asking if we put the kabosh on skiing. Nope, just getting a late start. He started preparing for his afternoon departure. He'd be hanging around our house even after we left for skiing waiting on Dad to pick him up sometime around 230pm. We loaded the Honda and headed off to MRM around noon, but not before saying our goodbyes to brother Glenn. As always, his ten day stay went fast. We did a lot of living in those ten days! The drive to MRM went fairly quickly, this beign my fifth trip up. With each trip we get smarter with our organization, or so I thought. I dropped Mindy off close to the office to fetch our lift tickets. Ipaid. $180 - ouch! I waited so we could unload our skis and the kids right next door to the rental facility. It was the nthat Mindy revealed that jacob forgot his coat. Forgot his coat? It's ten frikin degrees, and jacob forgot his coat? Good friking grief! Yep, we had everything except for Jacob's coat. UUGH! As frustrating as it was, I did a masterful job of biting my lip. I didn't want ot ruin an otherwise good day. We'd simply have to bite teh bullet and buy him a jacket in the ski shop. Mindy went to do so after getting both kids outfitted in their rentals. They know the drill well. While they doned their rentals, I fetched my own skis and apparell then parked the Honda. We were ready to hit the slops at 1pm. Bella and I waited patiently for Mindy nad jacob, who were int eh ski shop looking at jackets. We spotted Bob & Mary Ann heading up the lift. We chatted briefly, me sharing our mini-crisis. We agreed to meet up later. We met atop Four Star Express and took the back green trail to warm up. Until then, I hadn't seen jacob's stuff. Rather, I just heard from Mindy 7 Glenn. jacob struggled mightily but still showed promise. The last time i was with him on the slopes (Dec 21st) he wasn't snow plowing, turning or stopping. Bella, on the other hand, picked up right where she left off. It was brutaly cold - about 14 degrees but with a stiff cold wind too. Jacob refused a gaiter and his face turned bright red. With the kids skiing so tentatively, I urged Bob, M.A, Scott and Zach to go on and ski without us. I didn't want to burden them with the family warm-up. We skied three or four runs before Mindy asked if we could take a break. Before going in the lodge, I headed up Four Star for a fast run down by myself. Mindy was down with that. By the way, the park was packed. As it turned out, our friends were just ending a break whe nMindy headed in. I caught up with them just as they were heading back out. They handed their table off to Mindy and the kids. I headed in for beer after agreeing to find them later. We took aboout an hour's break. During that time, Mindy fetched Jacob a gaiter from the ski shop. Mindy andI shared a pitcher of Sam Adams. The kids had hot cocoa and a pizza sub and popcorn. Everyone was in a much better frame of mind after our break. The kids were determined to do some real skiing. I was a little surprised at their determination. Just as we were heading out, Bob came in to hel pme finish my pitcher. I couldn't stand the thought of abandoning beer. :) We skied some of the blue and black runs with all eight of us. The kids, especially Jacob, really started showing marked improvement. Bella, however, was skiing too straight and fast even after we encouraged her to do more turns. She cited the need for speed. Bob, M.A. Scott & zach were ready for another break. Our timing was off. We'd just gotten back out there. We stayed out skiing. We must've skied until about 5pm whe nMindy & the kids wanted another break. And sure enough, our firend were just heaidng back out. I didn't want/need a break. I couldn't drink anymore beer. Mindy encouraged me to ski with the others. I did. Mindy & the kids headed back out a short time later. We all skied together for the next couple of hours. During that session, both of our kids skied most of the difficult slopes, minus the terrain features. Jacob was doing great. And once again, Bella was skiing well but too fast, and not enough turning. We had a really good time alternating our pairings and trails. By the way, the snow was awesome, although it got icy in spots after dark - always does. Scott & Zach must've peeled off near 6pm. We skied another hour or so. It was a lot of fun. Unless I'm mistaken, It was 8pm when we pulled out of the ski park for home. We ate some of our packed food on the drive home, But evne satill, the kids and Mindy wanted me to stop at Wendy's near home. I granted their wish and stopped, but didn't get anything for myself. Once home , I walked Ykraps whom I knew had to be about ready to bust. I'm pretty sure Mindy had the kids shower before darting off to bed. I mixed a Fresca, Cap't Morgan's and grapefruit juice. It was very good. Everyone headed to bed before me, although I started dosing from the sofa. I headed up to bed around 11pm after waking to an empty downstairs. More to come...
