More Hot & Steamy

Sunset as we left for Barley's I remember tossing and turning a few times overnight, but certainly not enough to foil my attempt at yet another good night’s sleep. As a matter of fact, I thought that I slept rather soundly. But once again, I woke late – around 6:00am. I felt like I wanted more sleep too. I did have some crappy dreams, though. Perhaps that explains the grogginess. Regardless, I pushed myself through it and carried on with my morning ritual like any other day. I felt pretty good by the time my exercise was completed. And by the time I leashed up Ykraps, I was born anew. The air was close again this morning and the temperature already in the 70’s. It looked, too, like the sky was at least 90% clear. However, after my walk and through the remainder of the morning a bank of fog moved in stayed firmly planted until about 9:30am or so. I went about my morning at the usual pace despite oversleeping. Hurrying never nets me anything positive. After coffee, some blogging, and some breakfast, I was finally ready to hit the shower. At 7:30am I hit the shower, but dropped a cup of coffee off at Mindy’s bedside first. Jacob, I could see, had already taken my place in the bed. Yikes! I showered like nobody’s business and was all ready to leave for work by 7:50am. I gave the kids a big hug too since I wouldn’t see them until Sunday afternoon. I thought about driving the BM’er but the weather forecast stated that it would be mostly cloudy after the fog burnt off, so I ended up driving the Trooper. I arrived to work a little after 8am but still on time by my measure. This would be a tough day at the office but I was ready for it. Should I survive, we should have a beautiful summer weekend. I got settled in at work pretty quickly. Things were all astir with the rumored changes. I kept to myself and stayed focus on the day’s objectives. My boss stopped in a round 10:30am to say hello and talk about a few things. I left for my run around 11:30am because after checking the weather bug I saw that the heat index was already around 95 degrees (89 actual degrees an 60% humidity). It was getting warm fast. By the time I finished it was very warm. This was easily the hottest day running in Columbus so far. By 2pm the heat index hit 101 degrees (93 degrees with 52% humidity). It was close out there! Upon my return to the office I ate my packed lunch quickly. I was mucho hungry. I didn’t pack a salad so the amount of food I consumed was significantly les than usual. I had three slices of turkey, a few slices of cheese, some lettuce, and a fruit medley. That’ll tie me over until later, though. The afternoon was bumpy but not too bad considering that it was a Friday. The afternoon breezed by much like the passing thunderstorm that rumbled through around 4pm spoiling an otherwise pristinely hot sticky summer day. I was in weekend mode and ready for some fun in the sun. Incidentally, that T. storm I thought might have put dampers on my plans to do my lawn chores after work and pre Barley's It rained hard but only for about ten minutes. I left he office just after 5pm and headed home the back way through Mill Run if for other reason wanting to stop for gas given that I was on "E" and the fuel light was on. My procrastination, unfortunately, was going to cost me about $.20 per gallon. The price went up mid-day. After throwing $60 into my tank I made a beeline for home the back way through the Glen. Mindy and I arrived home about the same time. I helped her carry a few things inside. Before unwinding we walked Ykraps. When we got back Mindy showed me some of the fruit from her labor. She had cleaned and organized the fridge and the hallway linen closet. Both looked remarkable. I started putting some laundry away upstairs then stretched out on my bed for a minute. I didn't allow myself to get too comfy though because I intended on cutting the lawn this evening. Even though it rained hard just over an hour ago, the lawn wasn't to soggy; the heat saw to that. I threw on my lawn work attire then headed for the garage. Mindy asked for a hug before I left for my chore. She poured herself a glass of wine and took her book to the deck to so some reading. It's strange how two connected people interoperate. Her relaxing was comforting to me even while I was working away. The yard work brought out an almost instant glaze of sweat. If it was anything, it was humid. I was dripping after only trimming & edging. The rain had cooled things a little. It was only about 85 degrees. I completed the lawn work in about 1.5 hours start to finish and that included all the intricate detailing I do. It looked spectacular when I was done! Mindy had already gone in to shower as I finished up. At 7:30am I made my way inside and to the shower. I couldn't wait to wash away the tiny bits of grass and yard debris that collect on my ankles and legs. This, too, is how I have got poison ivy at least twice this year ( little flecks of ivy flying onto my legs while trimming around the pond). After my shower I changed into some comfy summer clothes and soon Mindy and I were ready for a evening at Barley's. We left just after 8:00pm. We took to the Trooper even though I would've much preferred the BM'er. The weather radar, even though it was profusely sunny now, showed a potential storm just to our NW. I didn't want to risk my baby getting all wet. Barley's was as fun as expected. Most of our friends were their. We ate, drank, and socialized for almost three hours. By the time we left, there were only a few patrons remaining. While there it seems we nailed down our plans for next Friday too. It's Monika's birthday party. She hand delivered invitations to her Barley friends. Mindy and I left some time close to 11:15pm. I mentioned as we left that we could have driven the BM'er since we were under the cover of stars. We thought nothing more it. At home we immediately got in the hot tub just as we often do. We were in just a few short minutes when it began to rain once more. It didn't rain hard and we never confirmed any lightning. We stayed in only a short time, however, not wanting to risk being cooked in the tub. About 45 minutes later, we were in bed asleep. We are planning a boating outing tomorrow and I want to be up reasonably early to begin our day.
