Golf & Swim - First Day of Summer
Looking for & finding amphibians
Golf & Swim
The thought of lounging aimlessly by the pool sounded so tempting the day before. It represents what vacations are supposed to be all about – relaxation. I was up at 7:15am which seems to be my casual wake time. After exercise, run, and breakfast, my primary activities would be lounging by the pool then golfing late in the afternoon with Jeff’s father, John.
We did just that. We lounged by the pool all day. We played, dunked, swam, and drank yummy frozen drinks. We made some frozen Raspberry Vodka’s & frozen Pina Colada’s.
The sun was hot and I was very, very pleased.
John called sometime around 2pm to let me know that he’d be over to pick me up around 3pm. He was on-time. Since Craig & Jeff’s house is essentially on the golf course, the drive to the country club was minimal. About a ½ mile down the road. Apparently, late afternoon golf is not a hot commodity in Florida. It looked like we might have the entire course to ourselves. The cost- $23 a piece and that was with a cart. Unbelievable!
The course was beautifully designed but favored a right hander with water hazards on the left on almost every hole. Spanish moss was draped from most trees and jungles were in abundance. It was really pretty. Many tee–boxes required a drive through part of the housing development after leaving the prior green. The only knock on the course, which they could do nothing about were the dry pond beds. This particular area of Florida has been rain deprived for months. John told me that there are typically several alligators hanging along the ponds. There were none to be seen today.
Eventually, I worked the kinks out of my drive and found my drivers sweet spot. My score was 96. Not great but not bad either. Because t he course was almost empty, we played the course in about 3 hours. That’s about as fast as ever.
When we got back home we cracked a couple bottles of wine that John made. They were tasty! John headed home around 7pm, and Mindy put the kids to bed. We stayed up and had a late dinner by the pool. We were in bed by 11:00pm.
