Lightning Bolts & KFC

We were greeted Sunday morning with a lightning show reminiscent of a Kiss concert. The lightning was flashing fast and furious with the usual accompaniment of thunder. I woke sometime around 4:30am to pee and was in awe of the lightning spectacular taking place out my bathroom window. If that wasn’t enough, the rain was coming down in proportions that saturated our already wet lawns. Puddles were formed in places I’d never seen before. Hopefully this will lead to a lush, green spring. I forced myself up and out of bed just after 8am. Mindy, as I knew she would, chose to stay in bed. After all, she was coveting the opportunity to sleep without concern for little people or a scheduled rise time. All of this worked perfectly for me too given how much I appreciate my morning alone time to exercise, walk Ykraps, collect my thoughts, and meditate. After kicking out my calisthenics I took to the drippy outdoors with Ykraps in tow. By then the rain had all but subsided and the air temp was hovering around 55 degrees. It felt little different than a humid summer morning just after an all night rain shower. The pond next to my lot was swollen like it hasn’t been in probably a year. I was happy for this because there was so much garbage stuck along the edges needing washed away. After returning from my exciting Sunday morning walk I made Ykraps and I a cup of coffee. He likes his sweetened lightly with Purenda, Purina’s version of Splenda. I find it a little gamey personally. For the next hour I took care of work related issues since I remained the manager on-call. And after some fooling around on the PC I decided it was time to squeeze in my run. I dressed fro my run in shorts as the temperature flirted with 60 degrees. My run went well and was just what the doctor ordered for my slacky ways. I figured Mindy would be up when I got back but she slept still. I continued addressing some chores and other miscellaneous tasks while awaiting her presence. I decided that I’d go ahead and start breakfast sometime around 10:45am. Just as I started fryin’ up some Maple flavored bacon, Mindy joined us downstairs. We had our breakfast and lots of coffee. It was afternoon by the time we’d finished eating and cleaned up the mess. Several times during the afternoon the sky partially cleared giving way to sunshine and booming warmth. We took advantage by spending time on the deck. To make it even more entertaining we held fast to the BB gun. Early springs spells doom for my backyard as the Canadian geese like to eat my budding lawn and leave pile of shit in its place. I’m determined to make their time in my yard pure hell! Mindy left sometime around 3pm. And with a previously arranged engagement at her mother’s for dinner, I had a very short window of time to spend running errands, including going grocery shopping. Still, I planned efficiently and headed out knowing that I’d need to be home before 4pm in order to put things away and ready for her mother's. Somehow I managed to meet my goals. I was only a smidgeon stressed as I finished unloading my groceries and mounted an 8X10 photo in the frame I bought for Mindy's mom. I was in my car heading towards her home by 4:20pm, and despite a couple of minor traffic snarls, I was there right at 4:30pm. But even though I was, no one else was. Not even Mindy. Before going in I called to make sure I hadn't gotten the wrong message. I didn't. Mindy had been there but had left to fetch some KFC for our cozy dinner. It would only be Mindy, me, her mother, and Jacob and Bella. This gave us more of an opportunity for closeness. I spent a great deal of time playing with the kids in the finished basement. Mindy's mom kept all of her children's toys over the years and Mindy's kids get lots of mileage out of them. It's nice to see them playing with 'plain old toys'. They require more imagination, but like everything else, Jacob, I found, still makes ALL the rules. Not fair, but he is five. We left Mindy's mom's at 6:45pm or so and headed to Mindy's. The children rode with me. Once home at Mindy's we quickly got the kids dressed for bed and tucked them in. I left Mindy's for home around 8:45pm hoping to get Ykraps walked and myself in bed before 9:30pm. I did. Another great weekend in the blog!
