It was Tuesday morning. I was up at 6:30am in part to help Mindy get the kids ready for their day. I changed and carried Landon downstairs to lighten Mindy’s load a bit. I did my exercises while the kids ate breakfast and then walked Ykraps once Mindy came down. We switched back to waffles all-around after Monday’s ‘dippy eggs’ debacle. They’re just too messy and take entirely too long to cook for the wee ones.
Soon Mindy and the wee ones were outta the house. Jacob and I headed our separate ways - he to his room and me to the PC. As always, we planned to reconvene at 7:55am in the kitchen. After seeing Jacob onto the bus, I returned home where I eventually readied for a run. I thought about running along Trabue but due to heavy traffic I kept it inside the confines of our subdivision.
My run went well. I was back home by 9:30am. I didn’t have to leave to fetch Rocky from kindergarten until 10:40am. I used the time I had to write and fool around on the PC. I headed up for a shower around 10:15am. I made it to Magdalene by 10:55am. I waited about 7 minutes for Rocky. While waiting, I chatted with Tom Clark, who updated me on his recent goings on; just recently sold his Merriam Village rehab, and finally recommitting himself to making a return to the work force. In just a few days, he already had two decent job offers on the table. It’s comforting to know that Network Engineering jobs are still plentiful, even in a downward economy.
Soon, Rocky came busting out the front doors of the school. His teacher soon followed, just as she often does. Only this time she came to my car. Uh-oh! That’s right. She had some bad news regarding Rocky’s behavior. She reported that Rocky struck a classmate for no apparent reason. She issued a minor warning and left it at that. Rocky wouldn’t make eye contact with either of us. Mrs Dent indicated that she knew it would take time for Rocky to adjust to his new surroundings. She also agreed to send a quick note home each day outlining Rocky’s progress/behavior. This was a request from Mindy.
After dropping Rocky at Grandma Sharon’s I returned home to start on my to-do list. My first tasks were to add more lights to the tree & then wrap Mindy’s & brother Glenn’s Xmas presents. I needed to get Glenn’s stuff in the mail by week’s end if it were to easily arrive before Xmas. Too, I wouldn’t have another day alone where I could wrap Mindy’s stuff before Xmas. The wrapping was slow but it eventually got done. I felt a great sense of accomplishment and relief afterwards. It was already 3pm. Again, where had the day gone? I‘m reminded how poorly I handle winter vacation time at home. On one hand, I appreciate the time way from work, but on the other I don’t care for the short days with no visible productivity.
Mindy and the kids were home by 4pm and just before Jacob got home from school. Just like that, the productive part of the day was effectively over. I can’t recall what we had for dinner, burgers I think. After dinner the kids and Mindy decorated the Xmas tree. It must’ve taken them about an hour. After cleaning up the kitchen I brought up the crock pot so it would be ready to accept the ham first thing tomorrow morning. This was a Jacob & Bella bath night. The other two had the night off. We read with the three older kids before tuck in. Until recently, Rocky didn’t seem to have any reading skills. In the short amount of time we’ve had him, he seems to be picking it up quickly.
We talked for a short while after the kids were tucked away. Anymore, this is the only time we have to relax. Mindy headed to bed before me. She sounded and felt awful. I stayed up and watched an episode of Office – great show.
