Vikings ... Why, why why?

As is often the case, Monday morning came around too fast. It was 5:30am before I knew it. I got up on time and got right into my routine wasting not a single minute. The sky was clear and it promised to be a beautiful day. I originally figured that I’d drive the BM’er into work.

After my exercise and walk with Ykraps I settled in for some PC time all the while enjoying my first cup of coffee. Happily, my cold symptoms were reduced to a head full of snot. Gone was the warm, tired, achy feeling typical of a cold’s first few days.

I was excited about this day for a couple of reasons, Most notably, this would be the Vikings first game of the year and it would be on Monday Night Football. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this game for some time. Secondly, this was my B-Day week!

More often than not, the weather is most cooperative this week. It’s not uncommon to have some of the nicest weather of the year (80 and crystal clear).

I ran the full four miles and returned hungry and ready to eat some eggs. Mindy was already and had my food at the island counter. My lunch was prepped too. I liked that.

Even though I had planned to drive the BM’er I opted not. I drove the Trooper instead. Can’t recall the deciding factor. Work wasn’t as busy as I had expected. That’s a good thing. Come lunch time, I drove to Golf Galaxy where I simply went to browse at new drivers and putters. A gentleman armed with a clipboard and a badge approached me as soon as I entered the store to seek my interests. He was really pushy and immediately tried ushering me over to look at their newest golf balls. He was way over the top. I couldn’t shake ‘em. Finally, I had to be borderline rude and tell him I preferred to be alone to browse during my lunch.

I bought nothing. The driver I liked was on sale for $200 and the putter a scant $169  -ouch!!! After leaving the Galaxy, I walked next door to World Market for a quick browse and then onto Macy’s furniture, just one store front further. Again, I bought nothing – just browsing.

I was back at work within the hour. I was looking forward to my packed lunch, which included leftover roast beef. It was simply delicious. The afternoon went fast. Before I knew it was time to head on out. I didn’t leave until 5:40pm. I arrived home around 6pm.

Mindy had already alerted me that she was making leftovers. That was fine with me, I figured I’d eat either more roast beef or the NY Strip from Ocean Club.

When I got back from walking Ykraps I told Mindy just how delicious the roast beef was that I had for lunch was. She sheepishly informed me that she’d just throw out the rest. NO! I was way disappointed, and was admittedly over the top angry. Not sure why it bothered me so much, but it did. She offered some of yesterday’s chopped steak as a compromise. No! Instead, I opted for my leftover NY strip. She was noticeably surprised and disappointed with my outward display of displeasure.

I went out to water backyard flowers while dinner warmed. I blew off my steam out there, too. Even after advising Mindy that I would fend for myself, she went ahead and heated the NY strip for me.

I was eager to eat and then get dinner clean-up behind me. The Viking game would start at 7PM. That left very little time. I asked if Mindy could finish the clean-up while I settled in for the game I had been waiting for since the schedule was announced early summer – Vikings vs. Packers.

The game began sloppy with a lot of mistakes/penalties on both sides. I was irritated by the apparent ineptness of my team’s offense. The defense looked OK. However, in the end, it would be the defense that gave up too many big plays. The Vikings were down at halftime. Mind had the kids in bed by 8pm after a difficult time with them on Sunday night. I hoped Mindy would stay up and watch the rest of the game with me but didn’t ask  Instead, she chose bed at 8:30pm. I was left alone to cuss at the TV to my hearts content. The Vikings came out in the second half looking far sharper than they had earlier. They got back into the game up until they gave up a punt return for a TD. I wasn’t happy. But once again, they managed to rally back with another touchdown of their own. However, almost as soon as they did the defense gave up yet another big play and another TD for Green Bay. Damn!

As time waned, our defense stiffened and got the ball back for our offense with two minutes left in the game. We were around the fifty yard line when Tavaris threw an interception to end all hopes of a dramatic comeback. I was disappointed. I hate to lose any time, but to the Packers on opening week – Ugh! I was going to be sick!

I headed to bed agitated.

  1. It looks like you are a Vikings fan in Columbus...did you know there is a Vikings bar here? I'd be glad to give you directions and such. Just email me JMasteller81@yahoo.com. It's Ozone Bar and Grill up on north side of town. I'm there every week. 1141 Worthington Woods Blvd. Normally we don't all show up until kickoff so if you arrive early, don't worry.
