The Glen Campbell show

I woke Wednesday morning on time. I noticed a small twinge in my sinuses as I began my exercise regiment but shrugged it off as nothing. But by the time I was back from walking Ykraps and engaged in meditation and still had that feeling I was nearly certain I had the beginnings of a cold. That holding true, this would make the third cold this year. Of course the last one held on for 6 weeks and turned into a nasty sinus infection that took a trip to the doctor along with antibiotics to finally rid myself of it. Realistically, I didn’t feel that bad at all. Just a slightly runny nose and was perhaps a bit sleepier than usual. I’d survive.

I ran four miles and returned feeling fantastic. Mindy had my lunch and breakfast fully prepared. She and Bella departed. I had the sprinkler running all night once more only this time out front. This is the first time all summer that I had a firm handle on the lawn – not feeling behind on watering. In other words, I wasn’t chasing the dry spots around with the sprinkler. Instead, I was in prevention mode. Makes me happy!

I was off to work at 8:10am. This was golf Wednesday. However, because my peers and I were taking our new boss to lunch this afternoon for his b-day, I drove the Trooper. I volunteered to drive all of us to lunch.

Work was busy but not out of control by any measure. We had our usual Wednesday staff meeting which lead directly into lunch at Bravo. It was quite warm when we headed out near noon. Bravo is one of my favorite Italian restaurants, but I hadn’t been there in quite a while. It’s within a couple of miles of the office, too. You really can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. Their salmon & lasagna are to die for delicious. I decided today to try something different and perhaps a little lighter. I went with one of their soup and sandwich combos – half a turkey/bacon/avocado sandwich along with a bowl of lobster bisque. As a shared appetizer we ordered the artichoke & spinach formaggio served with parmesan flat bread. Delicious! We all left satisfied. I picked up the tab. I’m sure they’ll return the favor on another occasion.

The afternoon blew by. Back at my office I confirmed golf plans with Bob. We were playing Indian Springs again. I also invited Tom Clark. He was a go. We had another meeting that lasted until 4pm. I readied and left for Wednesday golf at 4:30pm sharp.

I arrived at Indian Springs first, and just a little after 5pm. Despite the hot & dry weather, the course appeared to be in a little better shape than it did two weeks ago.  Tom arrived next, about ten minutes later, and then Bob arrived after another 10-15 minutes.  We tee’d off at 5:40pm choosing to play the back nine once again. It was wide open. I played the first two holes quite well scoring a par and a bogey. However, after that, for the next three holes I struggled mightily. I couldn’t get off the tee and couldn’t hit a straight second shot to save my life. That’s a very frustrating experience. Usually, the harder you press the worse you’ll do. I pride myself on not allowing bad golf to get to me much. However, this time, at least inwardly, I was struggling.

None of us were playing particularly well, so after hole number 14 Bob suggested we circle around and play 12-14 over again. The course layout set up real nice for such a move and there was no one behind us, so we circled back around and played those holes over. And whenever we do replay a hole, we always invoke the “take your best score” rule. It’s a rare shot at redemption. Happily, I got my swing back to at least respectable. I wasn’t spectacular by any measure but again, respectable.

I failed to mention earlier that my boss granted my wish to have Thursday off as my on-call comp day. In kind, Tom Clark and I decided that we’d play golf at Phoenix Golf Links. We invited Bob but he declined, citing the inability to get the day off. Tom heckled him a bit trying to incite him into calling off. We finished up around 8:10pm. Much to my surprise the sky was almost dark. We couldn’t have played much longer even if we had wanted to. We went our separate ways around 8:20pm. Meanwhile, Tom and I left tomorrow’s tee time up in the air – sometime mid morning.

During the long stretch of 161 I listened to an interview with the legendary Glenn Campbell on NPR. They played a few songs from his latest CD. One song in particular was written by John Lennon, and I could tell right off. Very nicely done. I hit I-270 about 20 minutes later. Traffic was very heavy - mostly semi’s heading south.

It was just after 9pm when I finally arrived home. By then I was ravenously hungry. Mindy already divulged that she’d bought me a gyro from the Big Fat Greek. Consequently, I had eaten it two or three times on my drive home. J I destroyed it in a hurry.

Since I had Thursday off work, I wasn’t in too big of a hurry to dash off to bed. I did, however, have even more cold symptoms than earlier, but after medicating myself with Afrin, Ibuprofen, and Delsym cough syrup, I felt pretty good. Mindy headed to bed early still battling her own cold. I stayed up foolin’ with my PC and then passively listening to Governor Palin’s speech from the RNC.

I headed to bed at 12midnight.
