A Real Weekend

It felt terrific to get up Friday morning knowing that I had a real weekend ahead of me. I wouldn’t be on-call and we wouldn’t have the kids. Instead, Mindy & I would be free to do whatever pleased us, and on our own timetable – a far cry from last weekend’s organized family chaos.

I exercised, walked Ykraps, played, and set out on my daily run. I ran four miles. Mindy & Bella departed before 7:30am. This was Bella’s second day of school. She was very excited. I dropped Jacob at Kenny & Crissy’s at 8:10am. I left for work immediately after.

Work was exciting. We had a lot of unusual activity going on, most of which I am not at liberty to discuss. All that activity made the day go incredibly fast. It made me tired too. Come 5:30pm I was more than eager to head for home to enjoy a relaxing weekend. I would have the house all to myself for a short time. The kids were gone with their dad and Mindy was at the grocery store.

I walked Ykraps and then retired to the recliner for a much desired nap. Just as I was drifting off to sleep the door bell rang. I considered ignoring it but thought that it might be Mindy needing help with eh grocs. Instead, it was neighbor Jake looking for Jacob. Ugh! I never did fully revert back into nap mode. Instead I used the time to download photos and play on my virus laden PC.

Mindy arrived home around 6:30pm. I helped her carry in her haul. After putting away the groceries Mindy dashed off for a shower. She claims to come home feeling dirty after a full day in an un-air-conditioned classroom.

I fooled around playing guitar and then casually strolled the yard and watered the backyard flowers while she showered. Around 7:30pm I headed up to change into more comfortable clothes to wear to Barley’s.

We arrived at Barley’s around 8pm. Bob Imber was there but without his better half. She was working. I ordered a guest Double IPA – Avery Ale to the Chief. Our first beers were picked up by Jim Bosch, my dad’s former boss and a former interest of Mindy’s.

My buddy Tom C. arrived short time later as did Rick, whom we hadn’t seen in a while. Mindy spent a great deal of her time talking with fellow school teacher, Leslie, and her beau Jack, who we met there a couple of months ago. Mindy invited most of the regulars to our party next Saturday evening. It’s an OSU/USC game party as well as a birthday party for me. And since Mark Pansing is planning to leave town for Arizona in a little more than week, it’s going to be his bon voyage party, too.

We didn’t eat anything until much later. Eventually, Mindy & I shared a plate of KC wings. We left for home around 10:30pm. Mindy drove. At home I cracked open one of my Avery IPA’s. Mindy waited patiently for me to finish. By 11pm we were heading off to bed.
