Pheeling Phoenix

Mindy was the first out of bed a little after 6am. But instead of heading immediately to the shower as she normally does, she did some food prep first. That netted me extra undisturbed sleep time. I appreciated that. I pulled myself from bed once she came up to shower. It was around 6:45am.

By the time my exercise routine and walk with Ykraps was in the bag, it was after 7am. Mindy and Bella were soon downstairs and leaving for school. I verified with Mindy that it was OK to squeeze in my run while Jacob watched TV. Mindy’s only request was that I have dinner ready when she gets home. I dashed off for my run at 7:30am. I ran just three miles to ensure that I was back home prior to 8am. It was a lovely morning. The day’s high was expected to reach near 90 degrees.

I walked Jacob to the bus stop at 8:20am. Kenny & Jake showed up minutes later. I let Kenny know about our Phoenix tee time as and asked if he cared to join us. He thought that golf sounded great and planned to meet us there around 10am. I was showered and ready to head out the door by 9:30am. I drove the BM’er.

I arrived at Phoenix Golf Links just before 10am. It was going to be a gorgeous morning for golf. Tom and Kenny arrived within five minutes of one another. After a quick introduction we went inside, paid our fees, and then headed to the first tee box. I hit a nice drive although slightly right, but still in the fairway.

I played quite well on the front nine with only one disastrous hole, and even then I managed to salvage a double-bogey by chipping in. I ended up with a 42 on the front.

My back nine wasn’t quite as good and I had to eat a penalty stroke on both 17 & 18. I shot a 49  for a combined score of 91.

As I had planned all along, I headed east after golf towards the Anderson’s. There I intended to buy some steaks for dinner as well as some good beers. It’s a fairly long drive out to Brice Rd but almost all freeway. I ended up buying an entire beef tenderloin and had it cut into 10 petite filets for $26 – what a deal! I picked up tow six-packs of Avery’s IPA too. Their beer selection isn’t quite up to par with that of the Sawmill Rd store.

I arrived home around 3:30pm. After taking care of a few miscellaneous chores I got around to prepping dinner for the grill. I felt bit uneasy about when to actually begin cooking not knowing exactly when to expect Mindy. All I knew was that she was working a little late. Instead of sweating it, I decided to time everything for 5pm.

I decided to grill 4 of the 10 steaks and did baked potatoes and canned corn too. Dinner was all but ready soon after Mindy and the kids arrived home. Bella offered to walk Ykraps on her own – a family first – so I could tend to dinner. I worried just a little bit about how she would manage to keep Ykraps at bay while also scooping poop. She managed nicely. We heaped praise upon her too. She ate it up.

After dinner we tuned into NBC for the opening night NFL coverage. It was the Giants versus the Redskins. The Giants won. I didn’t bother tuning into John McCain’s RNC speech. He bores me.
