Back to work. I was up & downstairs by 535am. It didn’t take me long to get my exercise out of the way and then head outside with Frankie. She was still out of synch with her old schedule. I was careful not to let her keep me out in the yard for too long. I was back inside to finish coffee, meditate and stretch by 605am.
I was out the door for my run by 635am. It was slightly cool without a shirt, but comfortable. The temperature hovered near 60 degrees, and the day’s high was expected to only reach 80 under sunny skies. Magnificent run.
Back home by 715am, I whipped up another bacon and cheese omelet and enjoyed some fresh pineapple and watermelon, too. I still had Wednesday’s lunch in the fridge at work. I was off to the shower by 745am.
I woke Mindy after my shower. She asked me to wake her. She was planning to meet her teacher pals at school again today. Gloria was coming over to watch the kids at 830am. Mindy joined me downstairs for 5-10 minutes before I left for work. I drove the BM’er.
Work went well. I stayed busy all day long and didn’t bother taking a formal lunch break, although I did eat my packed lunch while working at my desk. Mindy phoned in a cheery mood mid-afternoon. Shared that Ann, the literacy coordinator from hell, has been moved to another school. That’s been weighing heavily on her mind all summer.
I left for home and to start my weekend around 540pm. I realized just before leaving work that this Sunday will mark the beginning of the NFL season 2010 with the Bengals playing the Cowboys in the Hall of Fame Bowl. Exciting!
Mindy & Frankie were upstairs when I arrived home. I quietly went about my business and eventually plopped down in front of my PC where I proceeded to further update my neglected blog. Mindy came downstairs to greet me a few minutes later. We had dinner plans with the neighbors and several others at Gordon Biersch in the Arena District. The primary reason being to celebrate, Josh, Rachel’s boy friend’s, 30th birthday. The plan was for us to be there at 7pm.
We walked down to the neighbors around 630pm. I didn’t know it at the time, but I eventually agreed to be the designated driver. I drove 6 of us, including myself, Mindy, Kenny, Chrissy, Mike and Julie in Chrissy’s SUV. We arrived just after 7pm and parked directly across the street from Gordon Biersch. Ben & Ryan were waiting inside already at the table.
The hostess initially took us to the wrong table. A young lady was waiting there for others in her party as well. We all said hello assuming her one of Josh’s friends. The look on her face as we all piled in. The hostess quickly recognized her mistake and took us to the correct table where Ben & Ryan were patiently waiting.
Josh, the birthday boy, & Rachel didn’t arrive for another 10 minutes or so. By then everyone had ordered their first beers. They brought two other couples rounding our table’s total at 12.
I had one beer, a Marzen, but then switched to water. Mindy ordered their Schwarzbier, a black lager with a roasted flavor similar to that of a stout but lighter bodied. A handful of us ordered appetizers. Mindy and I shared some tapas. For dinner I ordered their 12” sausage pepperoni pizza and a salad. Mindy ordered the lobster pasta and a bowl of lobster bisque. Honestly, Gordon Biersch is not known for their dinner entrees. I wasn’t expecting much.
My pizza was good, and Mindy seemed to enjoy her pasta. But our friend Mike was unhappy with his NY strip steak. Looked like a Ponderosa steak. Had ‘em take it back and bring another. Honestly, it looked about the same. In the end, they comp’d him the steak. He didn’t eat it.
Our server was more than gracious and willingly split the check by couples. We got out of there for about $75. We gathered just outside the restaurant, which is right next door to brother-in-law Craig & Jeff’s condo. Mindy tried phoning them to see if they were home. They didn’t answer. Not sure of her intent. We headed to our vehicles after agreeing to meet at Kenny & Chrissy’s place. I drove home.
Mindy and I fetched Frankie and I grabbed my bottle of Jack and a few Cokes then headed to the neighbors house for the after party. Everyone who was at dinner came for the party. As usual, it got a little wild with music and dancing. At some point I ventured home to fetch Mindy a fresh bottle of wine.
After another hour or so Mindy just disappeared. Somebody told me they spotted her yawning and then slipping out the back door towards home. About 30 minutes later, I snatched up Frankie around midnight and headed that way myself. I let Frankie out, checked the Reds score then headed for bed.
