Nine
Work day mornings should be replicas of the days prior - right? My Wednesday, for the most part, was. I woke slightly after 5:35am and began my day with my usual routine. Everything about the early part of my day was a carbon copy of the day before. Even the weather was much like the day before. Talk about Groundhogs Day!
I arrived to work just before 8:00am. Work attempted to wrestle me to the ground as soon as I walked in the door. However, I have a routine I go through each morning before I typically engage any of my team members or peers, otherwise work issues have a way of running me over! I’ve got to stow my lunch in the refrigerator, fill my pitcher with ice and water, and wash my fork from the day before. Then I am ready for whatever the day brings.
We had an issue overseas that despite all of our efforts continued to be a problem (not fault of ours). Be that as it may, I had to get things squared away and all parties on the same page. Lunchtime came around fast. I made it to the gym at 12:25pm.
This was not just any run today. Today’s run closed the book on my ninth straight year running without missing a single day! Not much celebrating going on though. I got a little spooked that something might happen like the twist of an ankle, but it didn’t happen. I finished without incident. I still remember the day my streak started. It is an easy day to remember because it was my maternal grandmother’s funeral, February 9th. So, tomorrow is the actual “birthday” of my running streak but today closes out the 9th full year. Make sense?
While running I decided that I wanted to spice up my backyard outdoor lighting permanently. Currently, I still have a Christmas color scheme of spots uplighting my trees (red & green). In lieu of switching back to all white, I am planning to stop at Home Depot on the way home and pick-up two blue (Azul) spots to replace the two red (rojo) ones currently installed. They should complement the single green (verde) spot remaining. If correct, the combination will lend itself to some beautiful accent lighting that will carry through the year without looking to gaudy.
My afternoon went without much fanfare. Although, it was busy! I left for home at 5:10pm. First stop Home Depot! It didn’t take long. I was in an out in less than five minutes. I was back on the road for home by 5:20pm. It’s right around the corner from the office. I was home by 5:31pm. Because it was Wednesday, I was expecting Mindy. She would be a little later than usual however, for still being at school in a staff meeting. Plus, she was going to stop for a Valentine’s gift. That suited me well. I would be able to complete all of my chores and replace/install my new lights before her arrival.
I whizzed through my chores and then took to replacing my lights. As with most projects large and small that I get involved with, something didn’t go quite as planned. Believe it or not, one of my brand new Azul spot lights didn’t work. Those damn things are $8 a piece. You’d think that someone would be Q&A-ing those things. I had no choice but to leave one of the red spots in place until I could return the faulty bulb tomorrow. :( I was looking forward to viewing my new color scheme.
Back inside I tried the spot in an indoor fixture just to double check. It still didn’t work. Back it will go! Next, I went about other business. I took the time to publish yesterday’s blog entry and to add pictures for the past two days. Come 6:15pm, Mindy pulled up. And after viewing all of the pictures we took at her home the night prior, we headed for the kitchen. But instead of whipping up something/anything fast, I advised that I would be making her a low/no-carb dinner that would in fact be tasty and filling. I made chicken broth sprinkled with Mexican cheese, Summer sausage, and sliced Extra sharp cheddar cheese chunks. As an additional side, I laid out some peanuts. I’ve had this many times myself, and I really like it. Mindy enjoyed hers with a glass of wine. I enjoyed mine with lemon water.
After dinner we built a fire and laid comfortably in front of it absorbing the heat on this cold winter evening. Brother Tommy called sometime just after 8:00pm. We talked about things going on with him as well as our upcoming trip to Oregon until about 9:00pm. Mindy gathered her belongings around 10:00pm and headed for home. I closed down the house and headed to my room where I did some reading until about 10:25pm. Off with the lights and to sleep I was!
