Enemies ... I Have None
Grandpa Munster (Al Lewis) dies at 95. http://rds.yahoo.com/S=96062883/K=al+lewis+-+munster/v=2/SID=e/l=IVR/SIG=12llmskii/EXP=1139244151/*-http%3A//users.owt.com/jesyr/munstermemories/munster.makeup.AL.html
Before I forget... Happy Birthday, Kelly! You're my ex, not my enemy!
It's 7:30am on a Saturday morning, and in somewhat of a familiar pose, I find myself at bed's edge sharing 5' of space with Mindy, her son Jacob, and daughter Bella. Things get going very early whether you want them to or not at Mindy's house. For the kids, the name of the day is irrelevant. It's certainly a reminder of how nice it is to have complete control of one's own morning ritual from time to time. Something I have come to take for granted. But children are a blessing that will pay dividends for years to come. However, in their early blooming years, your time is theirs. When you need an extra ten minutes sleep, they need Cheerios. When you need a quiet moment to reflect, they need another glass of juice. When you need some quiet time to read your favorite book, they need help with a toy that won't work quite right.
The only viable solution is a NANNY! :)
By 7:45am Bella and I laid together in bed watching cartoons on PBS. Mindy had let the dogs out, and their pent up energy lead them to jump about the bed and to beckon some attention from the "strange" house guest - me. Before 8:00am I popped out of bed to go after some coffee. Downstairs Mindy already had it brewed. In kind, she thoughtfully set out a mug along with all the fixins'. I appreciate that! I made and drank some coffee all while being called to the playroom to play with toys and watch a movie. The movie was, The Prince and the Princess - or something like that. Jacob, Mindy's 5 year old son is infatuated with sword fighting movies, and he has numerous swords himself. All he needs is a little incentive form the characters in a movie to launch a day of jousting with anyone who crosses his path. he always has a weaker weapon available for his foe, or me in this case. We sword fought all morning (at least till 10:00am). Sprinkled in amongst the jousting, I tried combing Bella's thick black hair at her bequest. Ironically, she wasn't willing to invest the time necessary to complete the task, at least not in one sitting. No biggie! She does seem very comfortable with me. It's quite touching!
As 10:00am approached, I had to head home. Ykraps would be waiting with baited breath and my tennis shoes were calling as well. I had a list of needed items from the grocery in my pocket, but since I was in my jammies, I decided that I'd address that later in the day and instead head directly home. You can rest assured that once I arrived Ykraps was happy to see me. He already had his coat and hat on and his leash attached (not really, but you get the picture!). We walked our usual route. I was happy to be home on a Saturday morning. It was raining heavily, though. It's expected to turn to snow and ultimately drop 2-5 inches and maybe even more. Aside from the big snow storm on December 9, we haven't had a "significant" snow event, and only a total of about three inches total since. No complaints, but the idea of a snow storm stirs something within me - up through February at least. Come March I won't be in the mood for any snow. Give me 70 degrees and sunshine.
Back at home I took to hanging the living room blinds I had bought the night prior from Lowe's. It took a little extra time because the window header was difficult to penetrate without drilling pilot holes for the screws. That meant I had to do the stencil/pencil thing, along with interchanging the bits in my drill. Tedious! Finally, though, after about an hour or so I got them hung. Something wasn't right with the blind on the right. Standing back I could see that the rails weren't perfectly level. I took to the ladder cord to adjust/raise. To my dismay, the blind wouldn't raise without pulling abruptly on the cord, and once raised - albeit unevenly - it wouldn't easily lower. At this point, I couldn't overlook the fact that this was the blind that was in the open box. Immediately I came to the conclusion that it had been returned by a customer for the very same reason, but instead of sending it back to the manufacturer, Lowe's simply placed it back on the store shelf to be purchased by another - me! Hey, shit happens! I realize that. Maybe they were oblivious to the reason it was returned. Still, I was a little disturbed by the events. I went through the painstaking process of taking it down and repackaging it the best I could. I took a shower, dressed, then headed out the door on my way to Lowe's on Georgesville (one I had forgotten about being there). I went there because as I had mentioned before, I had bought the last one at the Hilliard store. And too, I surmised that I could stop conveniently at the Wal-Mart Super Center that's nearby for my grocery needs. At Lowe's they gave me little problem returning the blind.I was quick to point out that it was broken so some other sorry sap doesn't endure the same pain I had. I don't know if the young woman working returns listened carefully or not. Hey, I tried! She did mention that they had 9 others in inventory. Cool. That was good news!
Sure enough, they had plenty, and they were all brand new too! Wahoo! They had several black twill valances in stock too, so that meant I could coordinate the master bath window treatment with the bedroom. Again, cool! Next stop Wal-Mart. As I walked into the Georgesville Rd Wal-Mart, I realized that even if I get everything I need here, I would still have to go to the Hilliard Rome Rd Wal-Mart since I had left my prescription there last Friday evening. So, rather than wait in two long lines (Saturday's at Wal-Mart are cruel) I did a u-turn and headed back to my vehicle with a new plan: head to Hilliard. The Hilliard Wal-Mart was just as packed, of course. I went immediately to the pharmacy and requested my prescription. I failed to mention that I had left it there over a week ago. But no worries - it was hanging in the "W" rack waiting for me! No further issues. After grabbing the other items on my list I beelined it for home.
Once home I took to re-hanging the living room blind. By now I had become an expert of sorts after hanging five of these. I could almost complete the task with my eyes closed. I had it up in no time flat! And in the ten minutes to took to do that ,I had the new bathroom valance in the dryer after handwashing it. to remove not only the stiffness but the packaged creases, too. I hung that next. Wallah! Looks great and works great - both the blind and the valance.
I spent the next hour or so reading and napping in my old reading chair. I hadn't done that on a Saturday afternoon since well before Christmas. That was nothing short of blissful! Come 5:30 I decided to head out to the World Market and Gentiles carry-out. I had a 40% anything coupon for World Market that expired today. I thought I might find the art Easel I am desiring for my bedroom or even some new accent pillows for my bed. There I looked at several things but choose nothing. Nothing except a six pack of Mad Hatter IPA. My next stop was Gentiles to get some Spanish Peaks, Black Dog, Honey Raspberry Ale. Sadly, they were out! Oh know - what would I do. This was the only place in town that carried the stuff. Not to worry though. The store clerk said that he'd be more than happy to order it for me. Cool - double cool! I ordered case! He said it should be there in about a week. He'll call me. My how far we've come from Dick's drive-thru ,buying a case Falstaff.
It was approximately 6:30pm. I gave Mindy a call. We talked for a few and ultimately agreed to both stay home and relax tonight. We did make arrangements for Sunday dinner and such. I plan to be at her home around 2pm tomorrow. At home I walked Ykraps, played guitar, listened to some good music, made hot, hot wings, and drank a couple of beers. I then blogged for a spell ,but was getting tired. It became obvious that despite my desire to party hard and stay up and watch Mad TV and Saturday Night Live, I was not going to make it. Some time between 10:30 - 11:00pm I fell asleep. Still, I enjoyed my evening immensely!
