Do Unto Others...
Ever since Bob hit his head...
Firkin' Friday arrived packaged nicely in a chilly, but partly sunny day. I woke on time this morning, in fact, a little early. It just goes to show you what a good night's sleep will do. I was asleep by 10:00pm and up before 5:30am. I know my body well. It likes 7.33 hrs of uninhibited sleep (provided no drinking of alcohol). It's always a good thing to be rested on a Friday too. Gives hope to my ability to hang later into the night at Barley's or elsewhere.
I went through my usual routine in preparation for a Friday at the office.I managed to put down a few licks on the guitar just before leaving the house. I did have my second broken azul spot light in tow, but honestly, I hadn't decided if were going to try and return it or not.. I mean, it's a little hard looking someone in the eye and telling them that you want to return a spot light because it's broken when the lens is smashed - dah!
The morning in the office went without much incident, but not without volume. We were busy and had a number of call-offs and such. But we managed through as we always do. Soon it was run time. Today was 33 degrees but I still wore my three winter layers. Same story, against the wind it was perfect, but the trip back (wind at my back) I got a little warm. I compensated by unzipping both layer two and three about one third the way. I did enjoy music during my run, but the station was fading in and out. That, I think, was due more to a failing battery on its last leg than anything else. I would try to resolve that later. While running I resolved to trying to return my spot light. What the hell! I just had got it the day prior and it only worked for 1 hour.
After a shower I headed directly to the Trooper and drove to Home Depot. At the return counter was Willy, a familiar face and friendly fellow. I gave him the "you're not gonna believe this" spiel. He didn't hesitate for a second, He told me to go get another one. I did. That was that! I really wanted to test the bulb but did feel little awkward wandering around the store looking for a standard light fixture with power to try it out. I nth end, I opted to trust Philips, but I am not sure why. After all, this was the third bulb in as many days. Although all the other spots I have are Philips too. I would assume though that the lot of azul bulbs might be "bad". We'll see.
Before heading back to work I stopped at Target to scout for a couple valentine/birthday cards. They always have a rather nice selection. I was back at work by 2:20pm. And as you might imagine, the rest of the day went by quickly, although we did have a couple of situations I had to get involved with. Come 5:10pm I was high tailing it out the door. It was Friday - a firkin Friday!
Mindy had left a VM indicating that she had decided to join me at Barley's after all. She would be having Amy baby sit. She figured she'd meet me at my home sometime around 7:30pm. That was fine with me. I had decided earlier that I would forego trying to be superman this evening and trying to accomplish a million little chores and tasks. I would relegate grocery shopping, running errands, and such to Saturday when there's more time and I'm more relaxed. I would, instead, spend my Friday evening working on a couple of Valentines projects and some laundry - that's it!
That was a smart move. Just as I was wrapping up my few chores, Mindy called to alert me that she was on her way over. Good timing, honey! She arrived early, about 7:15pm. We talked for a few and then decided to have a warm-up drink. She had a glass of Merlot, and I had a raspberry vodka and club soda with a dash of black cherry Fresca! Soon our drinks were down and we were on our way to Barley's.
We arrived just about 8:30pm. There, sitting at the bar, were Bob and Mary Ann. And if memory serves me, we hadn't teamed with those two in nearly three weeks. They were fresh back from a weekend ski trip to Holiday Valley in New York. They reported having weather not so pleasing to out of town skiers. As I understood it, it rained and the snow conditions were spotty exposing its of muddy spots due to lack of appreciable snow. As luck would have it, a big snow storm rolled in Sunday afternoon as they were leaving for home. Still, they got away from town and spent a weekend together in an A frame chalet, so not all was lost. They'd hoped for far better conditions, however.
Along with Bob and Mary Ann we too notice of Courtney and Jeremy. You might recall, she just spent a week or so in the hospital with some heart related issues. It was good to see her looking so healthy and back at Barley's.Additionally, Rick rolled in, as did Thad and Monica. They invited us to the Blue's Station to check out a favorite band of theirs but we opted not for being tired. Maybe next time! Also present were Josh( my guitar instructor) and the regular cast of employees that make Friday's at Barley's so special.
Through the night Mindy enjoyed just one glass of wine and some sort of new salad. I, on the other hand, had three ESB's (very, very good) and deep fried chicken tenders with a side of Gates Of Hell sauce for dipping. We tabbed out around 11:10pm and headed back to my house to get Mindy's car. After grabbing some personal gear we then convoyed to Mindy's house. Once there, Mindy took Amy home while I stayed back with her sleeping children. I fell asleep too. I was awoken only by Mindy's return. Tired, we both fell asleep I'm guessing around 12:45am.
