Despite not getting to sleep until just after 5am, I was up at 1015am eager to get my Saturday underway. It felt terrific to find myself at home with all the conveniences one might expect. I brushed my teeth then started some coffee and fired up my PC. I took a walk about the yard now that I could see it in daylight. All in all, looked like Glenn and Dad did a good job keeping our plats watered through the extreme heat.
I enjoyed coffee and internet for about 30 minutes before setting out on a run. It was already approaching 90 degrees, but after running on the beach in extreme heat and humidity, it actually felt cooler. My legs were weary, but I expected that. In fact, they’ll likely ache for a good week after running in the sand for a week. In sand I obviously muscles I wouldn’t otherwise use on pavement/concrete.
I ran three miles taking notice of the McVey home on the return. Still looking good, unscathed from the outside. Figured them already on the road for home. Once back at the house I immediately started to organize gear from our trip including heading out to the Pilot to unload the remaining luggage and what not.
Soon Bella and Kaileigh were up and helped carry in the gear. We unloaded the Thule and the Pilot. Kaileigh called Shelly who said she was out running errands and would soon be by to pick-up Kai. Mindy, meanwhile, was still sleeping. She didn’t get up until somewhere near noon, or right before Shelly got there. About the same time that Shelly showed, so did Lindsey and the boys to do their laundry. Like the others, Lindsey wasn’t expecting us to be there. And actually, Mindy wanted her to come on Sunday so we’d have a day to recover before any chaos in our home.
Mindy was grateful that I had the Pilot completely unloaded and some of the stuff put away. Gave Kaileigh a big hug and thanked her for sharing her vacation with us. It was nice to spend the extended time with her. Feel like I know her better now.
Called Glenn around 1pm to see what his plans were. Last we heard, he was coming back to our place that day. They hadn’t changed. Said he’d be leaving mom’s around 4-430pm. We made plans for dinner at CBC. Invited Dad to join us too. He was meeting my mom in Chillicothe to intercept Glenn. I watered flowers and talked with the neighbors but not much else.
Glenn and dad showed up around 5-530pm. Dad didn’t hang out too long. We made plans to have a family gathering on Sunday afternoon – a cookout. Dad agreed to be there. Lindsey finished her laundry then she and boys headed for home. Glenn, Mindy, the kids and I headed to CBC for dinner around 630pm. For the first time in a long, long time we asked for a table in lieu of sitting in the bar. We took a table inside out of the extreme heat. It was something like 102 outside. Kate was our server.
We left two growlers at the bar with Vince to have filled with Bodhi on our way out. Dinner was scrumptious. Jacob and I ordered scallops and Bella ordered wings. Not sure if Mindy had the scallops or the special. Can’t recall what Glenn ordered. We asked for the risotto balls as an appetizer even though they’re not on the regular menu. They’re so, so good! I picked up the dinner tab and Mindy paid for the growlers at the bar.
At home Mindy the kids and I walked next door to hang with the neighbors. Glenn opted to stay back and chill. Can’t be sure but he may have even headed to bed. We didn’t visit with the neighbors for long. I was getting sleepy in a hurry after driving for 12 straight hours and sleeping for only slightly more than 5.We were back home and in bed by 1030pm.
