14lbs of Wings

Like the morning before, I was the first one up. I was careful not to make too much noise but soon after starting coffee, washed all the dirty dished piled up in the sink. There were lots of them. Twelve people make a lot of dirty dishes. I didn’t’ get out of the house for my run until after sucking down a cup of coffee and then serving Mindy one. I’m thinking that it was 735am or just after when I headed out the door. This time I headed south running two miles, or to the 5 mile marker. It took longer than I expected and by the time I made it back to the 7 mile and our beach access boardwalk I was whipped. I ripped off my tennis shoes then dipped my toes in the surf while also contemplating the unverse.

I was back at the house by 830am. This time most others were up and awake. Mindy was working in the kitchen making thick French toast and sausage, which proved to be a big hit with almost everyone. After breakfast Darwin and I headed to the Harris Tweeter grocery store just up route 12 a mile. There we picked up more beer, ice, flowers for the girls, as well as a few other items were already running low on. Back at the house everyone headed to the pool and soon the beach again after a filling lunch.

Meanwhile, it was another gorgeous day in paradise with sunny skies and a high temp in the low 90s. Inland temps were about 5 degrees hotter. Called home mid afternoon and chatted with Glenn who shared that he, mom, and dad were at Sunset cemetery visiting old family. He also shared that mom’s power wasn’t expected to be restored until July 9th, at least according to AEP website. With that prognosis, we expected that mom might be staying at our place for the entire week. Otherwise, he shared, everything else was going fine.

The day went by fast hanging by the pool and at the beach. Darwin grilled chicken wings for dinner, and whopping 14lbs! Holy smoke! While Darwin grilled dinner, I worked on monthly reports.. I’m guessing that I spent at least 2-3 hours throughout the day. We talked about doing the wild horse thing on the beach again, but by the tiem dinner was behind us and the kitchen cleaned, the sun had set. It gets dark about 45 minutes earlier than it does at home.

Instead of heading to beach we hung at the house and on the deck. We had a really nice time. I cracked open my bottle of Jack Daniels making two strong drinks through the evening. Mindy headed to bed near her usual bedtime of 10pm. I stayed up until 1030pm but fell asleep on the sofa. I woke and headed to bed before 11pm. Most of the kids were still awake watching TV.
