Traffic Alert: Dad's back on the road!

The weather was expected to be much nicer beginning Thursday and carrying on through early next week. I was sort of jealous after realizing I’d be on-call all weekend. It was 38 degrees and crystal clear at 530am. I was happy about that. My morning routine went along as normal. I dressed warmly for my run just like the day before. It was a little warmer, but still cold enough for a fleece and hand and ear covers. As planned, I ran just three miles. I felt really good. Mindy made fried eggs for breakfast this time. That suited me well. At the same time, she started a beef roast in the crock pot for dinner. And like most other times, she asked that I Peel off the cardboard and season the underbelly before leaving for work. I agreed to take on the challenge. She didn’t mention it, but I wondered if she planned to invite my dad to dinner. The kids and I were at the bus stop at 7:55am. Although still chilly, it looked like a beautiful day was in the offing. It was clear and sunny. It wasn’t long before the kids were on their way to school and I was on my way to work. The work day was quite eventful. Among other things, lots of follow-up related to Wednesday’s big issue. I didn’t take a lunch – just too busy. The day wound down and I was able to get away at or near 530pm. Mindy alerted me to the fact that she had indeed invited my dad for dinner and he accepted. His doctor gave his blessing for him to begin driving again Wednesday or earlier today. After greeting Mindy & dad, I leashed up Ykraps and took him on his evening walk. I was hungry and eager for dinner. The roast smelt especially pleasing. Dad gave a fairly detailed description of his surgery along with his better than expected convalescence. He’s one of the fortunate one’s, at least so far. Most people I know that have had back surgery remain in pain long after their surgery. And some get no relief at all. Among other things, I give credit to his otherwise strong frame, although can’t be sure. The roast was exceptional. I had two helpings. Dad seemed to like it too. I could already tell he’s putting on weight again. That’s good news too. He was looking rather frail/fragile just prior to his surgery. After clean-up, dad played a board game with the kids. I snuck over to the sofa and took a brief nap. I was overcome with sleepiness due to a full belly and not sleeping so well the night before. I woke when dad left for home – somewhere close to 7:30pm. I used the next 45 minutes to do some work on my blog postings, although didn’t do any publishing. I felt wide awake after an excellent nap. I tuned into football but watched only passively. I popped some popcorn to enjoy while watching TV. I joined Mindy in already in bed.
