Like Gas, the Levy Passes

It should come as no surprise that waking has been so much easier after moving the clocks back an hour. It was cloudy and cold – only 34 degrees at wake up. After completing my sit-ups, I checked election results. Best I could determine, the SWCS levy (Mindy’s school district) passed, but by the slimmest of margins (448 votes or .8%). I knew that would make Mindy happy. In fact, it was so close that most of the local websites forecasted another defeat as recent as 11pm the night before. On a sour note, the casino gambling issue passed, yet failed miserably in Franklin County. I wasn’t too excited about that. Lastly, I saw that my friend finally won a spot on the Hilliard school district board. I know he’s going to make a real difference. I finished my push-ups and headed out with Ykraps. After our walk, I delivered Mindy’s coffee and delivered the exciting news about her school levy. I cautioned too much joy, however, not knowing with absolute certainty beyond the county’s board of elections web results. I returned downstairs and carried out the rest of my pre-run morning routine. It was chilly, so I wore a thick wicking shirt and pullover fleece along with hand and ear covers. I ran four miles, and planned to do so again on Friday. Depending how the rest of the week goes, I may be back to four everyday next week. We enjoyed breakfast together as a family before Mindy rushed off to work. Mindy emphasized the importance of wearing winter coats. The kids listened, or did they? Off to the shower. We were ready to go by 7:55am. Jacob put on his winter jacket but begrudgingly so. Kept saying he hated the jacket. I tried to downplay the drama. The bus came at its usual time. Soon the kids were gone and I was back at home taking care of some last minute duties before taking off for work. Work was good. I had a meeting with my team that went pretty well. If nothing else, it made the morning go fast. We didn’t have our usual staff meeting due to my boss having a doctor’s appointment. I didn’t have an agenda for lunch, and a good thing I didn’t. We had a big issue blow up that totally consumed my boss and I for the remainder of the day. In fact, I didn’t get out of the office until 5:50pm. I talked with Mindy on my way home. We still planned an evening at Barley’s. She walked Ykraps earlier so I wouldn’t have to. After a few minutes in the house we turned around and left for Barley’s. Once again, it was fairly crowded, especially for a week day. I ordered a Bitter Dan IPA. And after sampling a few different beers, Mindy settled on a Russian (I think). About half way through my beer we ordered food – me wings and Mindy a quesadilla. I ended up having a second beer, but Mindy only one. Our friend Rick came in shortly before we were ready to head home. I picked up the check. We were home a good 15 minutes before the kids. When Jimaken dropped the kids, we learned that he was headed to the Outer Banks this coming weekend to run in a marathon. Cool! We all wished him well. While relaxing on the sofa watching the Science Channel I drifted off to sleep not waking again until the kids were asleep in bed. Mindy and I headed off to bed at 9:30pm a short bit after I woke on the sofa.
