Sea Scallops at TBFG
Wednesday morning was gloomy. It was gray, 63 degrees, but dry. Any rain we received overnight had already evaporated. After calisthenics I walked with Ykraps. The day’s weather was more suited for mid-spring instead of early summer. While in the 60s at sunrise, the temperatures were expected to drop throughout the day into the mid 50s along with a steady rain. The forecast, anyway, dashed any hopes of Wednesday evening golf plans.
I didn’t let the gloomy forecast impact my morning much at all. I proceeded as normal. After coffee, meditation, and a stretch, I headed off on my run. My run was uneventful, but sometimes that’s good. Hey, I didn’t fall down.
Like most mornings, Mindy had my eggs just about ready. Actually, Jacob was stirring them on the stove while Mindy tended to other matters. This was Bella’s last day of school. She was excited. They all departed around 7:30am.
I was showered and ready to depart for work by 7:55am. I spent a few extra minutes with Ykraps before heading out. I left for work at 8:10am. It’s sad, but I should’ve taken a jacket. But I forgot to. I kept a loose eye towards the skies all morning long. I held out hope that the forecasters might be wrong and that sunshine might bust through clearing the way for golf after all. That never materialized. However, it didn’t rain until much later in the afternoon.
I headed out for lunch around 1pm. I went to Home Depot and Target, both very close to the office. At Home Depot I bought two new outdoor fluorescent spots & a plastic plant stake for our new hardy hibiscus. One of the stalks has fallen over, something I anticipated after seeing the neighbors do the same last summer. It was very chilly, by the way, windy, too. It was too chilly to not have a jacket. Next door at Target I quickly checked out their swim suits. I bought nothing.
I was back at the office in something less than an hour. It began raining mid/late afternoon. Golf was a definite no. Mindy mentioned taking Bella to dinner for her kindergarten graduation, although her school doesn’t believe in formally celebrating such occasions like many others. With golf plans now out of the question, I wondered if I might join Mindy and the kids for dinner. There was talk of Bob Evans – somewhere I had no desire to eat dinner. However, talking with Mindy around 5pm, she suggested the Big Fat Greek. Heck yeah! She negotiated a stop on the way at Wendy’s for Bella. We agreed to meet at the TBFG at 6pm (it’s real close to the office).
I stayed at work until 5:50pm. I arrived at the TBFG at 5:59pm. Mindy and the kids weren’t yet there. I waited in the Trooper. Maria was hosting. She seated us with Katrina, our usual ‘nice’ server. Bella brought in her chicken nuggets. They didn’t question such a maneuver. Jacob ordered a gyro platter, Mindy the special - blackened sea bass, and me, the to-die-for sea scallops. As expected, the food was terrific. They comp’d us free desserts – a piece of chocolate cake & lemon raspberry cake along with ice cream for the kids. Excellent service.
The kids Aunt Sally came in with her husband, the Upper Arlington rowing coach. Mindy spent a good bit of time chatting it up with her after we paid our tab. I waited in the Trooper.
Both kids rode home with me while Mindy scooted off to Target to pick-up some vacation necessities. Of course the kids ran off to the neighbors as soon as we got home. I used the time to back-up May’s photos to CD. After the back-up, I formatted the SD card in my Canon for the very first time. It still had pics from Xmas on it. Mindy arrived home just as I was wrapping up my daily blogging. I must’ve finished up around 7:45pm. And like I have a lot recently, I went flat on my back on the family room floor. Next thing I knew I was waking from a lengthy nap. I sleep really well on the carpeted floor for some reason. It also tends to remove the stress/aches in my upper back/neck.
We tucked the kids into bed then did our own things. Mindy played on her laptop. I read from my philosophy book, Plato to Derrida. I plan to take it with me to Mexico. I joined Mindy in bed around 10:15pm.
