It was 5:45am by the time I rolled out of bed and made my way downstairs. It was cloudy overhead, this I could see even though it wasn’t yet daylight. I checked to make sure that coffee was brewing then began my exercise routine. I did a full complement of sit-ups, push-ups, & curls. I checked the weather. It was only 55 degrees. I grabbed a jacket to make my walk with Ykraps more comfortable.
Despite the gray and cool, it was a pleasant walk, albeit a little hurried. I felt a bit behind. I didn’t get back home for coffee until 6:10am. I took Mindy her coffee straight up, and even before sipping some of my own. Back downstairs, I took time to read the Daily OM and a few headlines. I stopped my playtime just after 6:20am to ensure enough time for meditation and stretching, probably the two most critical pieces of my morning but often the two easiest things to cast aside.
I didn’t get out of the house for my run until 6:43am. I ran in long running pants and a long sleeved shirt. And while the weather wasn’t very summery, it was perfect for a run. I was more than comfortable.
I finished strong. Mindy had scrambled eggs awaiting my return. They were quite good. I chased them down with a glass of OJ. She had nuts and fruit packed for my lunch. I added a can of tuna for good measure. I didn’t bother cutting up any veggies. Since Jacob’s already out of school, Mindy took him with her and Bella. That left me free to ready at a more leisurely pace. Cool!
After a shower, I walked Ykraps in the yard. By the time I left for work the sky was mostly clear. We were expecting highs in the upper 70s. I could tell a big difference in the performance of the Trooper’s engine after changing the oil and going with a synthetic blend. It purred almost like new.
Work was pleasant. At some point early morning (while I was retrieving some coffee) I noticed very dark skies out west. I went to the window to confirm what I saw. Wow! It looked like one heck of a storm out somewhere near Marysville. And sometime mid-morning it began to rain at work, but not to any great degree. I didn’t know that it was supposed to rain at all.
I worked straight through my lunch. I snacked on veggies and cheese but never tapped into my packed tuna fish. I took a few minutes to check completed items off my weekend project list. There are still four or five things I wanted to get done but none absolutely pressing. Probably most important is replumbing my hose bib into the deduct meter. I’ll need my dad’s help on that one.
I left work just after 5:30pm. Things were busy, especially late in the day. Mindy called to measure my openness to having pizza for dinner. She was tired and didn’t feel like cooking. I agreed. We both agreed on Minelli’s. I arrived home some time after 6:00pm. The sky, by then, had turned somewhat threatening, and the humidity increased significantly. It felt like summer. Mindy joined me walking Ykraps even though she was busy vacuuming when I first arrived home.
She ordered pizza while I worked on my blog. She went after the pizza, too. It didn’t take long, but then again, Minelli’s never does. By 6:30pm we were enjoying pizza. I probably ate 6 or 7 pieces. After dinner I went to the yard where I raked the matted sod that I flattened trimming the mulberry bush/tree Sunday afternoon. I didn’t realize how bad I damaged the area. It was kind of mushy, though. I was hoping for a strong storm to help it snap back upright. Nothing beats a good thunder storm for that. Kenny saw me out there and walked over. He shared how he and his crew got caught in the big storm this AM while working in Marysville. He said they got the whole works: wind, hail, and rain. No major damage, thankfully. We hung out for just a few minutes, and Mindy eventually joined us, but only briefly before I headed back inside.
Indoors, I got back to work updating my blog. I was determined not only to get the weekend posted but also add pics – something I’ve failed to do for the past few weeks. That endeavor was a success. By the time that I finished it was time to tuck the kids into bed. Jacob was suddenly battling some strong cold or allergy symptoms. He was moaning and groaning. I returned downstairs where I tuned into a Wayne Dyer presentation on PBS. This one’s titled Excuses Begone. It was good, but also a bit contrived. Still, his teachings ring true to me and always come along at just the right time in my life. Mindy headed to bed before the show was over. I shared that I couldn’t go to bed with the last segment – the meat – still to come. I stayed up about 20-30 minutes longer waiting for the crescendo.
I was also waiting the arrival of the huge thunder storm moving our way, but like most summer storms, it seemed to peter out and drift just north of us. We got lots of lightning but comparatively little rain. I went to bed at 10:35pm, or so I thought. When I arrived, the bed was full of people. Not wanting to compete for space, I headed back downstairs and to the sofa where I stretched out with my pillow. Minutes later Mindy sent the kids back to their own beds since the storm (thunder) had passed. I headed back to bed.
