Falling into Place
After sleeping rather soundly, I woke just after 5:30am. I guess one could say that I was in tune with the weather having disabled the irrigation system before heading to bed and then getting a good dose of rain overnight. How much, I wasn’t yet sure.
I did my sit-ups then checked the weather. It was 66 degrees, mostly clear. Weatherbug said we received .53 inches of rain overnight. Cool! I headed out with Ykraps after push-ups. The pond was up and flowing pretty well. The grass looked incredible. There’s no denying the positive difference a good rain storm makes for the lawn as compared to artificial watering.
Back home I made coffee and took to the PC where I read the Daily OM and the morning headlines. I played on the PC until 6:20am. Afterwards, I meditated for ten minutes and then did my inside stretches. I left for my run at 6:38am.
I could tell right away that it was too warm for a running shirt, but I had one on. I ran for about a mile before shedding the shirt and carrying it in my hand. Unless I am mistaken, that was my first bare-back run of the year at home. The run went as well as hoped.
I wasn’t home but minutes before I threw a pan on the stove and began frying my eggs. I enjoyed every bite along with a big glass of juice, fruit, and a leftover piece of bacon. I delivered Mindy a cup of coffee despite being a little angry with her.
I was quick to shower and prepare to leave for work. Mindy joined me downstairs just before I left. She wanted to explain her position on Father’s Day. I listened but wouldn’t/didn’t concede. In kind, I took the opportunity to make my position clear then departed for work. I exited through the garage in order to grab my golf clubs even though the weather forecast looked iffy at best.
This was Wednesday meeting day. We shared a little coffee time in the boss’ office until around 9:30am or so. I don’t ordinarily share much about my home life, but admit asking my peers in general terms how they’d feel if they were presented with a dilemma such as mine. They emphatically agreed with me. Shortly after, I found an email in my inbox from Mindy apologizing and pretty much echoing their sentiments. That made me feel much better. I didn’t want to be angry all day.
My boss lost a friendly bet to me yesterday afternoon. He promised to make good on it today, lunch at Chipotle. Four of us headed out at around 12:30pm. I held a table while everyone else stood in line. It was really busy. Often is. I had my usual, barbacoa burrito, chips & salsa, and a Coke. Yummy!
The afternoon moved swiftly. I was busy all afternoon. I was surprised and happy that it ended up mostly sunny all afternoon. I phoned Mindy mid-afternoon. Most importantly, she made good on her email and reworked Father’s Day plans, more closely aligning them around me and my family. That made me smile. She also mentioned that the Nationwide irrigation guy was by to add the sprinkler I always felt we were missing in the front yard. She said they were there less than 30 minutes, and that included talking with her. Cool!
Meanwhile, given the nice weather, I was sure that we’d be golfing. I sent an email to Bob Imber around 3:30pm to confirm. . He responded relatively quickly. Sounded like he’d be stuck in a meeting late, and Bob B went home ill. No golf. L At about the same time I received an inquiring email from Mindy seeking my evening plans. I responded that golf was out.
I worked just past my usual 5:30pm and arrived home around 6:00pm. The kids were already gone with their daddy. Mindy and I quickly agreed on dinner at Barley’s. I just needed to freshen up, and also went outside to look at the new sprinkler head just added. Looked to be right where I wanted it. Great! We left for Barley’s.
The lot was sparsely populated, about 15 cars tops. We spotted a few friendly’s sitting at a table outdoors. We headed inside. I ordered a Centennial. Mindy ordered a glass of wine. This was a fresh batch of Centennial. I dubbed it good. Janet said it’s getting mixed reviews, most likely due to the other hoppy choices: Bitter Dan and Hoptopus. I like them all and am very pleased to have many quality choices, and all of them in my favorite beer vernacular.
We eventually ordered some wings, two plates of ten, one K.C. and the other Texas. We met a couple new faces sitting around the bar, two guys roughly my age. The conversation was good, funny at times. One guy suggested that Lenny, the owner of Barley’s, convert the place to a bed & beer (breakfast). That way, one can drink all the IPA he feels the need to with no worry. Then, in the morning, they can enjoy a breakfast, oatmeal, or coffee stout. That quickly turned into kegs and eggs! Too funny.
We left for home just before 8pm. Jimaken, meanwhile, had already agreed to bring the kids home later than usual. After all, it wasn’t a school night. The kids got home around 8:15pm. They stayed up until about 9pm, but not much later. We headed to bed at 10pm.
