One Day Work Week

A weekend of hard, physical labor now behind me, it was time to focus my attention towards work. I was out of bed close to 5:30am. I felt good despite yesterday’s physical labor. After sit-ups and push-ups, I headed out with Ykraps. It was a lovely start to a Monday, about 55 degrees under mostly clear skies. After a walk, I prepped a cup of coffee. I checked the weather forecast for both Monday & Tuesday - sunny & 70 both days. I knew then that I would be asking for Tuesday off work, reason being to finish the sod job, and possibly even get some ComTil. It was time to wake Mindy. I delivered coffee and woke her at 6:10am. She didn’t sleep that well. Neither did I. I attributed it to a belly full of food after Sunday dinner. I grabbed fresh running clothes from the laundry room. The stuff I wore Sunday was saturated with mud. In fact, I don’t know that I’ve ever been that dirty. Not only was the sod muddy (duh), but it was also dripping wet. That made it even messier than it would’ve been otherwise. After meditation and a stretch, I left for a run. The weather was nice enough to run without a jacket. I was very comfortable and very loose. The sunshine made the morning run that much sweeter. I was home just after 7:15am to a plate of hot scrambled eggs. Yummy! Mindy reminded me that she wouldn’t be home until sometime after 6pm as she was scheduled to do ‘corner duty’ in an effort to support Tuesday’s SWCS school levy vote. In turn, I shared my own plan, which was to buy more sod and then put it down after work. She & Bella left at 7:30am. I was showered and dressed by 7:50am. Jacob & I were at the bus stop at 7:57am. After Jacob was on the bus, I walked out back to check out my newly laid sod. I half expected to find several pieces rolled back like when the house was new. Raccoons are notorious for doing just that in search of insects (food). That didn’t happen. It still looked good. I left for work pulling dad’s trailer behind. I took the back way, up Old Dublin Rd to Davidson. The work day started quietly. Sometime after 9am I called Strader’s Riverside Dr store to see how much sod they had left. They had none. I figured as much. I bought all but about 7 pieces on Sunday. They didn’t expect more in until Tuesday some time, although they suggested I call their Powell store, all the way up Old Dublin Rd past Muirfield. I called the Powell store and without hesitation, they told me they had plenty. Cool. I’d drive up at lunch time to fetch some. Mid-morning I asked my boss for Tuesday off as a personal day. My wish was granted. I left for Strader’s around 12:30pm. It was beautiful – sunny and 70. I hadn’t been to this Strader’s before, so once I got north of Glick Rd I drove extra slow, not wanting to drive by it. Found it. The sod looked as lush as the stuff at their Riverside store yesterday. Cool! I went inside and paid for 20 pieces. Unlike Riverside, they didn’t have a crew to load me up. One guy did it all. Said he was just about to leave for the day when he saw me pull up with my trailer. Glad he stuck around. I drove down scenic Old Dublin Rd all the way back to the office. The afternoon moved by fast enough. I left work at 5:05pm in an effort to get some sod laid yet that evening. No one was home. Again, Mindy was working late. Jacob was at Noah’s, and Bell at her grandmother’s. After walking Ykraps I got started on the sod. I dumped a few more wheel barrow loads of topsoil before placing the first roll of sod. I toted 6 pieces to the immediate area. Mindy got home just after 6pm and asked if I wanted help. Yes – absolutely! I preferred that she be the cutter/piecer while I hauled it and helped move it into place. We worked until we had the entire area filled in save for the transition to the existing lawn. It was 8pm. I planned to do that first thing in the AM. After all, I had the entire day scheduled off work. After a shower, I helped tuck the kids into bed. I sucked down a couple beers while watching two episodes of Family Guy. Mindy headed to bed at 9:45pm. I stayed up until 10:30pm. I wanted to be up reasonably early come Tuesday morning.
