Okee Dokee Goodbye Gokey
I woke a couple times between 4 & 5am, each time happy to see I had more sleep time available. I didn’t wake again until 5:40am. Oops! Downstairs, I began my exercise routine in earnest. I did only sit-ups deciding to give my upper body a break after moving Com-Til the past two evenings. At the time, there were nothing but clear skies overhead. However, the forecast called for rain to arrive sometime mid-morning. The temperature was on the cool side as well.
I wore a fleece jacket while walking Ykraps. I was still tired, just like the two mornings prior. My hope was that morning coffee would snap me out if it, but it didn’t. I knew before delivering Mindy’s coffee that I was gonna go back to sleep before my run, and that’s exactly what I did. I slept until 6:35am. Afterwards, I hurried through run prep and stretching. I hit the streets somewhere near 6:50am.
My run went really well, and just as I expected, it woke me up. Like me, Mindy & Bella were running behind. They didn’t leave the house until 7:35am. I cut some vegetables to take to work along with my tuna fish, fruit and nuts. It was 7:45am before I made it to the shower. Once again, we took the football to the bus stop. It was still sunny but thin clouds were already beginning to move in. I assumed them a precursor to storm clouds.
After seeing the boys onto the bus I returned home briefly. I was on my way to work by 8:15am. If the forecast would’ve been more favorable, I probably would’ve pulled dad’s trailer behind to get mulch after work. But then again, it was Wednesday, and Wednesday’s are typically a golf night weather permitting. I fetched my clubs from the garage just in cas after removing them Sunday to make room for the stepping stones.
Work was a breeze. We canceled our regular staff meeting but still went to lunch together at PF Changs. We left for food early – 11:45am. I drove. I ordered the pepper steak bowl with egg drop soup. It was really good. We had a nice time. We were back at the office by 1pm. My afternoon was busy. Most of my time was spent dealing with a lingering issue.
The predicted rain held off until about 330pm. But after that it came down pretty consistently. There was no way golf was a go. I didn’t even bother contacting Bob. The upside was that meant that Mindy & I would have a date. I couldn’t lose! We talked just before 5pm. At that point we didn’t decide where we’d go but figured it either Barley’s or CBC.
I arrived home around 5:35pm. The kids were already gone as expected. It was still raining at a good clip. I had to walk Ykraps, and did so alone. I took the purple umbrella but still got a little damp. Plus, my dog walking shoes soaked up water. My socks/feet got wet. We decided on Barley’s. I brushed my teeth before leaving the house.
We talked about the Fringe finale on our drive there. We both enjoyed the idea of a parallel reality immensely. Judging by the parking lot, there seemed to be a decent crowd at Barley’s. I dropped Mindy at the door due to a sudden downpour. I joined her inside moments later. I knew what I wanted – an Extreme Dan IPA. Mindy sample a couple guest stouts but ended up going with a Shiraz. She ordered their meatloaf dinner. I ordered Gates of Hell wings and onion soup. I asked for a 2nd IPA just before my food arrived. Calvin was in, too. We talked with him for quite a while. And because I had my Blackberry, I checked on work more than a couple of times. I even called my boss at one point to discuss an issue that was coming to a head, and one that we’d been following for weeks.
We met a new friend, a UPS driver. Can’t readily recall his name. We talked about school levies up until we left. Interesting perspective, and similar to my own. Just as we were leaving Jimmy, a Columbus cop, arrived with his wife Katy. We hadn’t seen him for a long, long time. It was 7:30pm.
Jimaken pulled up just as I was walking into the house. It was 7:45pm. We didn’t do much before Idol came on. I laid on the family floor and even took a brief nap. I heard the unmistakable music from American Idol come on. It woke me up. As expected, Danny Gokey was sent home. So, the final is set. It’ll be Kris & Adam. Mindy & I headed to bed shortly after Idol faded into memory.
