Feeling Better
I drug myself from bed around 8:20am, but as it turned out that wouldn’t be the last I’d see of my pillow. Given the way that Saturday unfolded, I was feeling quite good. Still, I wasn’t ready to declare myself fully healed. I moved cautiously down the stairs to begin my morning routine. I prepped a pot of coffee, mostly for Mindy’s sake. Just the thought of the stuff left me feeling queasy again.
I made it through my exercise routine without any problems. I completed both sit-ups and push-ups, but postponed the curls. Soon, Ykrap and I were out enjoying a walk. Not long after he and I returned, I started up the sprinkler pump picking up where I left off on Saturday night. It’s been dry for the past ten days, and we’re not expecting any appreciable rain for the foreseeable future. To stay green and lush, I need to keep the sprinkling going.
Mindy and the kids were up shortly after I returned inside. They were heading to church at 1015am and began prepping for that almost immediately. I jumped back into bed. It wasn’t long after Mindy & the kids left for church that I got up again and set out on my run. I wasn’t sure how well I’d hold up after yesterday’s sickness, but I was eager to find out. What surprised me more than anything was how good my legs felt. They felt as good as they’ve ever felt. I chalk that up to all the laying around I did. I kept my run to 3 miles just so I didn’t over do it. I finished quite strong.
Back at the house, I addressed a few chores, which included moving the sprinkler around a couple of times. In addition, I took a shower and got dressed. Suddenly, I felt good enough to attend brother Bobby’s family luncheon after all. That pleased me much. After all, daughter Courtney would be there as would G.D. Kaileigh. I even stirred the chicken & noodles Mindy had simmering in the crock pot.
Mindy and the kids got home around 12:40pm. They had Kaileigh with them, too. She gave me a big hug. Mindy seemed surprised to see me up, about, and showered. I felt pretty good – not perfect, but good. I helped ready things for our departure for Bob’s. Because Mindy wanted to go straight to Sunday dinner from Bobby’s, I loaded all of the tools necessary to continue my work at Gloria’s. I wasn’t certain that I could hang that long but wanted to be prepared just the same.
By the time we got to brother Bob’s I was fading once again, but not nearly as bad as Saturday – no – not even close! I found a comfy seat outside albeit in the shade where I enjoyed some time with Courtney and the kids all the while they swam in Bob’s pool. There was lots of food for the taking, but I didn’t want to over due it. I ate some of Mindy’s chicken & noodles (2 plates full). J I snuck a little of sister-in-law April’s fabulous cheese ball too. Yummy!
We stayed at Bob’s until 4:00pm or after. I took a nice long nap on his sofa that must’ve lasted about 30 minutes. Courtney, Kelsey, Wally, and brother Tommy left first. But soon my Dad said he was leaving, too. Mindy then suggested that I ride home with Dad saving her from having to drive me home then head back to her mother’s. Made sense to both Dad & I. He drove me home.
Dad insisted on showing me what he had down with the engine in his new used minivan. He cleaned and painted the block to look like new. The head was now a light metallic blue. When asked how he painted it so meticulously, he said with a tiny paint brush. Crazy, but it did look nice.
It felt good to have a couple hours of alone time, especially given my condition. I kept my activity limited to on-call activities, moving the sprinkler, walking Ykraps, and resting on the sofa watching TV. I watched the Science channel. Later, I watched a little of the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony/parade. I was very excited that the day marked the beginning of the 2008 NFL football season. Later, the Colts and Redskins would kick-off the preseason from Canton, Ohio.
Mindy & the kids got home around 7:30pm. They brought Kaileigh. She was spending the night. That made the kids happy. I had hoped Mindy would be bringing me home some leftovers but she didn’t. Damn! I was getting hungry. Instead, I made myself two hot dogs.
Soon it was time for the NFL preseason game to kick-off. It came on at 8pm. After getting the kids a bath, Mindy joined me on the couch to catch a little of the game herself. We hadn’t seen any NFL action since early February’s Super Bowl. Here we go! Go Vikes!!
We stayed up until 10pm. I was eager to get to bed and get a good night’s sleep leading into the work week.
