Tres Leches

Sunday began much better than Saturday. I felt better, the weather was much improved, and I was up a lot earlier. This was supposed to be a Wright family breakfast Sunday, but with dad out of town and me ill, we canceled. I began my exercise routine in earnest at 7:30am. By 7:50am they were in the bag and Ykraps and I were heading out the door. It was a lovely Sunday morning although significantly cooler than the past several days. The high was expected to rise only into the low 60’s. But given my goals, that forecast wasn’t too bad at all. I took a relaxed approach to the remainder of my pre-run morning. Mindy didn’t get up until 9:00am or so. She offered to make a full fledged breakfast while I completed my run. That sounded good. I shortened my run by about a mile again hoping to heal my sore leg and ass a little quicker. I ran along Trabue and down Hague. Breakfast was still cooking when I returned. Mindy said I had 20 minutes. I used the time to go fetch a trailer load of mulch. In reality, I was gone about 30 minutes door to door. Mindy & I enjoyed some maple bacon and scrambled eggs. They were yummy. We both did clean-up. Meanwhile, there was a lot we wanted to accomplish on this day. But like most Sunday’s our time was tight. We had to be at baseball practice by 2:30pm and then Sunday dinner immediately after. To expedite things, we agreed that Mindy would scrub and prep deck furniture while I mulched flower beds. I started in the back, not 100% certain how far I could get with one trailer load, or how much I could get spread before leaving for baseball. The sun was hot. I checked the temperature. Believe it or not, it was only 64 degrees. It felt much warmer with the high sun and extra clear sky. By the time 1:30pm rolled around, we had 2/3s of the mulch spread and all of the furniture out and cleaned. The deck was quickly taking summer form. And it didn’t hurt that we had the two new Hibiscus plants out in their new pots. They’re stunning! We left in separate vehicles destined for baseball at 2:10pm. Mindy decided last minute to pit stop at Wal-Mart. She’d meet us at baseball. Jim was bringing the kids. I met him there just before 2:30pm. He & I watched practice together while Bella played on the fenced playground – something she always does. Mindy showed up about 30 minutes into practice. Jim left after another 30 minutes. Mindy & I both stayed until the end. Both kids wanted to ride with Mindy to Gloria’s. We took Cemetery to I-270 south – a much quicker drive to be sure. Jodie was planting flowers in the front beds when we arrived - Impatiens. We checked over the work we had completed the week before. Looking good. Dinner was served around 5:00pm. We had ravioli, meatloaf, and potatoes. I ate more than my fair share. Before dessert, we spent some time chatting as a family. Dessert consisted of a Mexican cake called Tres Leches (milk cake) brought by Craig, I believe. Like most others, I thought that it tasted OK, but had some trouble with the texture. By design, it has somewhat of watery consistency. After dinner there was more conversation before we set out for home. It was just after 7pm. The kids were tired and I wanted badly to get the rest of the mulch down. Jacob walked Ykraps with me just as he often does on Sunday evenings. Afterwards, I got busy spreading the remainder of the mulch. Mindy helped. We chatted with neighbor David while working on the east side of the house. He’s an avid biker. He biked 60 miles today and shared plans for a 200+ mile ride next weekend for some annual event down to southern Ohio and back. We finished just before dark, or about 8:30pm. Bella bathed and Jacob showered. I showered after Jacob. I had to get the mulch dust off of me. We went to bed early. I had trouble falling asleep. Not sure why. Didn’t fall asleep until midnight or so.
