With an eventful weekend behind me…
Mindy giving me a smile
My tree in lights
I joined the conscious world at 550am sharp. Since I started going to bed an hour or so later, I am sleeping much more soundly through the night (no wake ups through the night peeking at the time).
After brushing my teeth and taking a major morning pee, I was downstairs working through my sit-ups and push-ups. By 605am, Ykraps and I were out the door. Today I remembered to wear gloves (a promise I made to myself after several cracked finger tips last winter). It had to be somewhere around 15 degrees. It was a cold walk to be sure.
And because of the cold, my craving for a hot cup of coffee was only heightened. As I generally do, I lit a candle, turned off the lights, and meditated for a solid ten minutes. Very beneficial!
After meditation I sent Mindy a good morning email and then went about the routine of packing my lunch and making my breakfast.
Before departing for work, I did what I usually do. I plucked a few notes on my guitar. And oh yeah, before I forget, I had to tend to yet another temporary daily activity - watering my Xmas tree. It’s drinking about a half gallon a day, so far. Almost as much water as I drink. Once at work, I quickly realized that I had forgotten my laptop at home. Oh boy! So, after a failed attempt at using my secondary machine to log onto all the systems I need to be attached to, I let my peers know that I’d be heading home to pick up my laptop. I guessed I would be gone for about half an hour. It’s not that far.
I was back at the office by 9am sharp and working away. The morning whizzed by. Before I knew it, it was time to run. So run I did. The air temp was 26 degrees, but with wind chill it was about 12 degrees due to a stiff breeze blowing out of the northwest. Honestly, though, temperatures in the mid 20’s make for very easy runs. I’m never too hot nor too cold. I always look forward to a long hot shower upon my return, though.
The afternoon went by quickly too. Before I knew it, it was 500pm and time to wrap up for the day. I managed to get out of the office and on the road by 515pm. This was a Mindy Monday so once on the road I gave her a call to confirm our evening plans. She recommended that we visit Barley’s for some wings. She REALLY knows how to please me! :) After all, I hadn’t had Barley wings since Friday, November 18th. You might even say I was in wing withdraw. She arrived at my house sometime around 550pm. I was just finishing up my chores. By 6pm we were out the door headed to Barleys. We sat at the bar. Both Lee and Janet were working tonight (our usual Friday night bartenders). Mindy ordered her favorite, Honey Chipotle, and I ordered my favorite, Gates Of Hell. In addition, we ordered a basket of fries covered in melted cheddar cheese. And they never skimp on the cheese!
To drink, Mindy ordered a Merlot and I ordered a Christmas Ale. I hadn’t planned on drinking any beer but once there and at the bar, it’s kinda hard not too. They’re all so, so good! Neither one of us could finish all of our wings so we got a to-go box for the leftovers. We headed back to my house.
We had planned to finish decorating my tree but ended up being lazy and instead spent the next hour and one half snuggling on the couch. Mindy departed sometime around 9pm.
After she left I spent the next couple of hours blogging, playing my saxophone, and uploading my first batch of pictures off of my new camera (about 70). I wanted to get in some reading too, but it was simply too late. I knew that if I sat in my big comfy chair and cracked a book, I’d fall asleep at the page. :) I went to bed around 1130pm again tonight.
Song of the Day: Comfortably Numb, Pink Floyd
Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now.
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain,
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.I need some information first.
Just the basic facts,
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I had a fever.
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I got that feeling once again.
I can't explain, you would not understand.
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
Ok.Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more ...Aaaaaahhhhh!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working.
Good.
That'll keep you going for the show.
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain, you are receding.
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're sayin'.
When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse,
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone.
I cannot put my finger on it now.
The child is grown, the dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.
