Saturday Night Live

My Xmas tree comes home. Mindy and her mother, Gloria. We met at the original Minelli's for dinner. A rip roaring fire in my fireplace at home. Where am I? And who is this strange person sleeping my bed? Oh, hey, is this even my bed? No! I woke around 730am but in a strange environment. A quick look around confirmed that I was at Mindy's. Daybreak was upon us and I could see through the blinds that a chilly December day was beginning to take form. I quickly rose to my feet to take a leak and brush my teeth. Mindy woke shortly there after and asked if I wanted her to make some coffee. Are you kidding me? Absolutely! I was craving some caffeine and the associated joy of the obvious accompaniments. Before her children woke, we sat snuggling together on the sofa in front of a warm fire drinking some coffee and talking about last night and the day ahead. It was a very relaxing, very pleasurable experience. Soon the coo from her daughter Bella rang out for Mindy’s attention. Mindy went to retrieve her because her room is protected with a security gate to prevent her from wandering and falling down the steps through the night. Bella woke in a very pleasant mood and went right for some of the snacks left out from the night before’s party. We had another cup of coffee or two, and then roughly confirmed plans for meeting later in the afternoon/evening. Soon it was time for me to head home and take care of walking Ykraps, who I was sure would be happy to see me, and to get in my morning run. Immediately upon my arrival at home I walked Ykraps and then began making a grocery list as well as another general shopping list. And, as part of my Saturday action plan, I hung and lit the large wreath at the garage apex, and then strung the clear white tube lights around the pergola above my hot tub. And just as I suspected, I didn’t have enough footage to make it all the way around. I needed another 24’ set to complete the wrap. This would not be too much of an inconvenience, however. My plan included not only grocery shopping but stopping at Target for a few more Christmas decorations, so I would simply pick-up another set of those lights. After a quick shower, I was off! My first stop was Target, then Karric Square to get a tree, and then to Kroger. I was back at home by 245pm. I quickly unloaded the groceries, removed the tree from the top of my Trooper, and hung the additional set of tube lights on the pergola. Mindy called from Kohl’s where she was Xmas shopping with her mother and confirmed our plans to meet at Minelli’s for dinner around 5pm. Yes, I would finally be meeting her mother! I spent the next hour playing some guitar and backing up pictures to CD’s. I not only got all of Mindy’s old pictures copied to CD, but I got the 2nd half of 2005 backed up too. That’s a load off my mind. It would be tragic to lose all of my pics if something were to happen to my hard drive. I left myself plenty of time to make it to Minelli’s. Although there is a Minelli’s a half mile from my home, we were meeting at the original as that’s the one Mindy’s mother, Gloria, is most comfortable with. And to my pleasure, I arrived before Mindy and her mother. I was just a little nervous, because I know that Mindy’s mother is not real excited about meeting “the man” in Mindy’s life. Probably a bit like a security blanket, I had my new camera in tow and was prepared to snap a pic as soon as they walked in the door. I did. I snapped a pic as soon as her mother rounded the corner. That’ll be a keeper, I’m sure. I hope it turns out nicely. In addition, I greeted her with a hug. After all, she’s the mother of the woman I love. We settled into a table in their dining room. I hadn’t been in this Minelli’s in over 20 years. It is a Westside icon. You can see and sense the history here as there are pictures of dead employees on the wall, including Guy Ferelli himself, who I believe was the “founding father”. The crowd, too, was a little rough looking, but somehow I felt really comfortable. And to my surprise, Gloria was about as sweet as anyone could be. I was a little taken back at just how sweet she was. She reminds of my maternal grandmother in her hey day. Sure, she seemed a little feisty, but that’s a good thing! I ordered a “Monster sub” and Mindy and her mother both ordered perch dinners. We talked about all sorts of things, including some of Mindy’s other family members. We had a very enjoyable time together. We left there around 630pm. Mindy and her mother went on their way, and I went home. Mindy planned to spend the evening at my house but had to drop her mother at her home as well as addressing a few errands of her own. Once at home, I went through a bit of a Clark Griswold routine with my garage wreath. For some reason the timer would kick off as soon as I’d put the ladder away. Long story short, I fixed it! Some time around 8pm Mindy arrived. We had talked about going on a date, but both of us were full and a little tired. Plus, it was beginning to snow/sleet, and the roads were predicted to get bad. We opted to stay in, build a fire, and hang out together. For added entertainment, we watched my new Best of Will Ferrell, DVD.
