Moons of Myanus

I woke somewhere near 530am and headed downstairs to get my day started. A quick glance out back revealed clear skies. I slipped into my exercise shoes then headed to the living room for sit-ups then to the family room for 40 curls. I was both anxious and nervous about the foodless days ahead. According to the instructions, I wasn't supposed to have anything but clear liquids all day Thursday and then again on Friday until after my colonoscopy. Yikes! Add to that, I was expected to drink the colon cleansing stuff starting Thursday evening. Double yikes! It was hard to focus on much else.
I carried on with my morning ritual, drinking a cup of coffee. I added caramel vanilla creamer all the while knowing i wasn't supposed to. I also planned to eat one scrambled egg after my run even though the instructions said no. I woke Mindy around 620am then did a stretch routine just before heading out for my run. It was chilly outside, according to Yahoo, only 48 degrees. While checking out the weather earlier, I saw that it's expected to reach well into the 80s in Glenn's neck of the woods (PNW). I know he'll/they'll appreciate it.

Because of the chilly temp, I added my pullover fleece to my running attire then headed out the door near 635am. I ran the full 4.1 miles without a problem. Spent most of the time contemplating how I might get through the next day and one half, and to the other side of the colonoscopy. I locked in on the other side, hoping I'd feel well enough to go out for food and beer Friday evening. Getting there, of course, would be the challenge.

Walked the dog after my run. It was a pleasant walk. Back at home Mindy was already preparing to leave. Knowing that I wasn't allowed to have dinner she shared that her and the kids would try to eat before I got home, or that they might even go out. I woofed down a lone egg without of toast or fruit. I just needed something to carry me through the day and then part of the next. Mindy left for school and I headed up for a shower.

I didn't have to worry about packing a lunch, which left me with idle time after my ready. I reread my prep instructions for like the fifth time. Just as the instructions recommended, I packed a quart of Gatorade and then chicken bouillon cubes in my back pack. The kids and I headed out near 808am. Jacob has his 12 year inspection coming up, and he's not quite sure what to expect, especially after he learned about my prostate exam 6 weeks or so ago. I have teased him about a similar procedure for the 12 year check-up. Just the thought of it has him scared, nervous. In fact, he doesn't even want to get a sports physical. He was shocked to learn that they typically grab your sack and make you cough. Ahh, yes. Misery loves company. :)

Though a little chilly, it was set to be a gorgeous day in the upper 60s with no chance of rain. I planned to drive the BM'er. To that end, I pulled the Accord to the curb soon after the kids loaded onto the bus then headed off to work in the BM'er near 830am. I wore a zip Columbia fleece and I'm glad I did. It was chilly!

Arrived at work near 845am and quickly got myself situated for the day. I scrawled out a list of to-dos keeping in mind that this would for all intents and purposed be my Friday. I planned to work from home Friday morning or until 11am but wasn't sure what condition I'd be in after drinking the human liquid plumber. I got plenty of work done, and sometime near noon I made a cup of the chicken broth with a bouillon cube. It was OK, but I was craving something a bit more substantive.

As the day wore in I sipped my Gatorade too. I never did get painfully hungry like I imagined I might. I drank water through the day too, which is another piece of the prep instructions - drink 8 ounces of water every hour. The day wound down and I headed for home around 515pm. It felt odd to think about going home and not eating dinner. And quite frankly, once I arrived home I didn't know what to do with myself. Habit has me grabbing a handful of nuts almost every day as soon as I'm in the door. I shared as much with Mindy, telling her that even while knowing I couldn't eat, I would find myself thinking I needed to grab some food at least 5 or 6 times every hour. Eating is as much a psychological thing as it is physical.

Mindy shared that she and the kids were going to go out for dinner and then run a few errands, thus leaving me home alone to begin my prep. That was comforting. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and only recently learned that the liquid would give me diarrhea. Until; the other day, I assumed wrongly that it would simply make my colon glow. Mindy and the kids left around 615pm. As soon as they left I carefully mixed up the first batch of Moviprep, which entailed ripping open two disparate packets of powder and mixing both with a liter of luke warm water.

Said to drink it in four servings over one hour. I carefully smelt it then sipped it to see what it was like. I quickly chugged the first glass. It didn't taste as bad as I expected, but after half a glass it wasn't too pleasant. I'd liken it to flat 7-UP but with a thicker consistency and then a chalky, sodium finish. I didn't want to stretch the cocktail out for an hour. So, over the next 20-25 minutes I did my best to finish the entire liter. And just like the accompanying literature stated, my gut felt bloated from the liquid after the first glass full which made it increasingly difficult to want to drink more. I drank the 2nd & 3rd glass with ice cubes in it. I didn't like it luke warm.

After the third cup I knew I wouldn't be able to drink another gulp without vomiting so I dumped the rest down the drain. Screw this! Then like I shared with Mindy, I headed up to bed, still ahead of 7pm. I didn't want to roam near the kitchen or see any food. Why not simply go to bed. Mindy warned that folks had shared with her that I would get diarrhea almost instantly. That never happened, though I did pee several times. Because I felt bloated, at least I wasn't hungry. An hour passed before I figured I should try to force something out. I was surprised then when I sat down and water poured out of my butt almost like a hose. Holy shit! I was a little surprised that it was reddish brown in color. It felt like a gallon.

I'm guessing that Mindy and the kids got home around 745pm. Mindy stopped up to check on me and then change into her PJs just before American Idol. Around 815pm I felt the first urgent release building. I headed to the bathroom and unloaded what felt like another gallon. I worried that it would be like this all night. However, my worry was for not. That was it. I laid in bed watching all of Idol and then Touch. Mindy must've joined me in bed around 930pm for the 2nd half of Touch. I fell asleep just a little after 10pm. Good night Uranus.
