I was up a few minutes early and feeling pretty good. It was raining heavily. I could hear it beating against the roof and skylights. Bella was asleep in our bed after joining us in the middle of the night and during a loud thunderstorm.
I was downstairs by 532a staring out the back door and slipping into my exercise tennies. I could see that water was ponding in the middle backyard again. I wasn’t looking forward to my walk with Eiknarf, not to mention my run. I held out hope that it would let up soon.
By the time that I completed sit-ups and push-ups the rain had indeed subsided. A check of the radar revealed that the heaviest stuff had already passed us by. After a little coffee Eiknarf and I headed out. I didn’t bother with an umbrella. It was raining only lightly. Eiknarf took care of her business in orderly fashion. We were back after our usual ten minute stroll. I toweled her off once back inside.
Next up, meditation and stretching. Both went reasonably well. As good as my right shoulder was feeling last week, it was aching again this week. I must’ve strained the muscles that I sprained doing yard work or playing with Olivia. I didn’t bother delivering coffee to Mindy. She was taking a sick day. When she planned it, she figured Bella would be stating home too, but as of the night before, the plan was for Bella to return to school. She didn’t have a fever and claimed to feel better. Mindy would spend the day resting.
I readied for my run wearing a long sleeved wicking shirt and fleece (no gloves or ear covers). It was raining again but only lightly. That didn’t bother me. However, not a half mile into the run it started to rain heavily again and pretty much stayed that way through its duration. I was soaked head to toe. Because I was so wet, I chose to reenter the house through the garage that way I could strip out of my drippy clothes in the laundry room without trampling water through the house. As luck would have it, the pass through door was locked. I knocked twice before someone answered – Bella. Geesh, people!
Mindy brought me the beach towel she had draped over the newell post by the front door. I toweled off and stripped out of my wet clothes and reverted to my PJs temporarily and through breakfast. Bella asserted that she wasn’t feeling too well again and said she didn’t want to go to school. I think her knowing that Mindy was staying home made her want to stay home too. But Mindy would have none of that and instead insisted that she get with the program and get prepared for school. She moped and whined until bus time.
Since it was raining, the kids and I decided to wait for the bus from the comfort of the garage. We spotted Chrissy standing out in the now light rain. She started coming our way just as the bus pulled up. The kids dashed off for the bus. I headed back inside to do final prep and to say goodbye to Mindy, who was already snuggled up in bed again. I left for work at 810a. My work day was another busy one. At certain times during the day rain pounded against my office window. Couldn’t see squat! I was so busy that I didn’t bother taking a real lunch break, though I did eat from my desk.
Once again, I worked late after joining a conference call with a customer. Didn’t get out of the office until just before 6p again. By then the rain had pretty much stopped but by then there was ponding everywhere. Mindy had already left to take Bella to gymnastics and planned on making a couple stops while she was out. Jacob was planning to stay home. She let me know all this via email. Also let me know that there was tortellini in the microwave. Wouldn’t be home until some time after 7p.
At home I tended to my after work chores then warmed my toretellini and red sauce. I topped it with shredded sharp cheddar cheese as well as a little parmesan. I found a salad in the fridge too. Jacob confirmed that it was for me. Both were good, although I couldn’t eat all of the tortellini. Put what remained back in the fridge. Jacob asked if he could head out and ride his new bike. Like he often does, he was out and back in less than three minutes. That’s annoying.
After finishing my dinner I retreated to the livingroom with a book bent on doing some reading and napping. But I am not trying to fool anyone. I was incredibly sleepy and more bent on napping. I don’t think I made it through one entire page before my eyes became so heavy that I got lost in sleep.
At some point I heard Mindy & Bella come in but still wasn’t fully awake. Mindy came in to chat but I was too tired to carry on a meaningful conversation. She walked away frustrated. I got up at some point and made my way to the sofa where I fell asleep again. I didn’t wake up until Mindy asked me to tuck in the kids. What I didn’t realize was that she was off to bed too, or at least there to read. After tucking in the kids I caught a second wind and headed back downstairs. It was only 910p. I watched a little of the Reds game but then bounced over to one of the knowledge channels. Can’t readily recall what I watched. Mindy came to rail again asking me to come to bed. I joined her in bed around 1030p.
