Hankering for Wings
I was up on time and downstairs engaged in sit-ups by 535a. Skyward, nothing but clear skies. Nice. Checked the weather. Still chilly – 40 degrees – but expecting a high of 70 degrees with sunshine. Yippie!
Did 55 push-ups just ahead of coffee and walking Frankie. We walked to the east where she took care of business in a hurry. We were back home by 604a. After giving Frankie a treat I settled in for ten minutes of meditation. Went really well. Next up, stretching.
Delivered coffee to Mindy who was just coming out of the closet. I’ve always had my suspicions. Left Frankie there with her before heading back downstairs to dress for a run. Since it was 40 degrees, I still wore gloves and ear covers. I didn’t get out the door until almost 640a. It was daylight, and birds were singing like crazy. I suspect that they knew that it was going to be a banner weather day.
I ran the full 4.l mile track without incident. It was trash day. I put our can at the curb the night before. Because they hadn’t yet picked up by the time I was back home from my run, I was able to add the two bags of trash we had resting in the garage from Rachel day. I started the Honda before going in for breakfast.
Mindy made scrambled eggs topped with cheese. She let me know right away that there were some left in the pan for Frankie. Speaking of Frankie, she was going ape crying for eggs. Mindy suggested that I’ve created a monster. We’ve recently changed her food. Mindy bought Purina’s Beneful because they were out of the other. Not sure the difference between it and the other stuff, but she absolutely loves the Beneful. She woofs it down fast and in one setting.
Just before Mindy left for work she asked Bella not to kiss any boys at school. We’ve been careful not to speak of that entire ordeal in front of Jacob. He’d have a heyday with it. It was just after 730a when I headed up for a shower.
After a shower, Jacob and I headed out on the deck to shoot his airsoft rifle. It was Jacob’s first go round with it. He loved it. We spotted Kenny on his deck bringing Woody in. We joked that he was taking our target away. Inside, I packed a lunch then headed out to the bus stop with the kids. What a beautiful morning. Chrissy was out with Makayla.
Didn’t talk much. After the kids were on the bus we headed our separate ways. Frankie and I hung out front for a while but she did anything but sniff. Inside, I organized my gear and headed out through the garage. I grabbed my golf clubs hoping to visit the golf range at lunch. Off to work at 815a.
It was a lovely drive into the office. Would have been a nice ‘hooky’ day. Expecting sunshine and 70. I spent the entire morning analyzing data. Come 1p I set work aside and headed to the nearby Able’s golf range for the first time all season. Because it was so nice, I expected the place to be packed shoulder to shoulder. There was a good crowd, but by no means was it packed.
I bought a regular sized bucket of balls and headed to the south grass tees. I ran into Lori Landel and her bff Susan, both there to take a golf lesson. We chatted briefly before I headed to the tees.
I was fortunate enough to find a spot without someone right next to me. Being a lefty it’s critical that I am not back to back with a righty. My plan all along was to spend all my time working on my mid-irons (4 thru 7 iron). However, I warmed up with my sand wedge. I didn’t hit any of those irons consistently. Instead, I hit some good and some bad. But the more I slowed down my swing and stopped thinking the better I did. Duh! Good thing I didn’t have my expectations set to high. First time out I was happy just to be swinging my clubs.
After working through an entire bucket of balls I headed to the well-maintained, undulating green to work on putting. I felt really good over my putter and hit them all pretty well too. Gone about an hour, it was time to head back to the office. I arrived around 215p. The first thing I did was tear into my lunch. I was super hungry.
The afternoon in the office went fast. It was a nice feeling knowing that we didn't have to run one of the kids here or there. Instead, it was date night. The kids would be having dinner with Jimaken. I left the office around 520p. We hadn't nailed down where we'd be going, but I suspected we'd end up choosing Barleys. In the back of my mind I considered the Fish Market, but I wasn't really craving their appetizers. Instead, I had a hankering for wings.
Once home, we quickly decided on Barleys. I rinsed my lunch containers, prepped Friday's coffee, then brushed my teeth. We left for Barleys around 605p. The lot was full but we were fortunate enough to find one of the few remaining spots in the main lot. Janet was tending bar and quickly served me a Centennial IPA. It went down easy. Yum-yum. Talked briefly about her fast approaching wedding - April 30th - now just two weeks out. Time flies. Mindy had a St Joan's nitro.
After beer #1we ordered food. I went with K.C. wings while Mindy ordered a salad with warm meat at the suggestion of Rick, an older gentleman we had been dialoging with, and one we've seen in there more than once but hadn't previously met. Most of the evening's conversation centered around the antics of Gov. Kasich. Not sure what's up his behind.
The wings were really good. Enjoyed a second Centennial. Before heading out I placed an order for 10 Gates of Hell wings to take home to Jacob. Mindy took home about half her salad too. We left for home around 740p. I drove.
Surprised to see Jimaken's car already sitting in front of the house. The kids headed inside with us. It was near 8p. We all readied to watch American Idol results night. I was hoping that Paul would be going home. Haley was once again in the bottom three, along with Paul and Stefano. I said I'd stop watching if Haley was sent packing. My wish was granted, Paul was the one sent packing. Justice prevailed. During the Idol hour, Jacob woofed down the 10 wings we brought home. The rest of us enjoyed popcorn from the sofa.
Now 9p, Mindy sent the kids to bed. Mindy and I started watching Bones, but I fell asleep probably 20 minutes into the program. Can't recall the time when Mindy woke me for bed.
