Airsoft Ants & Sunshine

I over slept by about 10 minutes, but in the grand scheme of things, not a big deal. It did, however, force me to hustle through the early part of my routine. I was caught up by dog walkin’ time, getting myself back on track by minimizing PC time. I walked Frankie even ahead of enjoying coffee. There was a completely clear sky but still only 40 degrees. We walked out front and across the street, an old Ykraps path that Frankie and I have never traveled together. She must’ve liked it. She took care of her business much faster than usual. Before doing meditation or stretching, I enjoyed some coffee. Went down easy. Started meditation at 610a and spent ten minutes doing so. Come hell or high water, I was determined to fully quiet my mind. Meditation went even better than expected. Stretching went well, too. Delivered coffee and Frankie to Mindy, who was already mid-shower. Dressed and left for a run by 638a – a couple minutes later than desired. It was already darn near daybreak, the beginning of a 6 month stretch where of running in full daylight. Wahoo! The sun, however, didn’t crack the horizon until I approached the three mile mark. It was a gorgeous sunrise. Back at home, I wondered if Mindy would have her keys waiting by the front door. She did. I started the Honda on her behalf. Inside, my eggs were ready and waiting. The were especially good. As she does most mornings, Mindy reviewed the evening’s plans, which included Jacob's soccer practice. She asked if I would be willing to take him. Probably, but not something I was looking forward to since I’d no sooner get home from work and have to head right back to the Hilliard soccer field. Mindy did it last week, however. She left for work and I headed off to the shower. I had an extra bounce in my step brought on largely by the sunny spring forecast. Supposed to be nice for the next 2 days, at least, and maybe three. I could hear Jacob and Bella playing rough while I dressed. Jacob was tackling Bella when I went to check on them. I packed my lunch with the few minutes I had before bus time. I packed another foil package of tuna to go along with my fruit and cheese. The kids and I headed out at 757a. Kenny was out with the girls for the first time in a while. Kenny was off work and going on a field trip with Lillian’s class. Jacob would benefit from Kenny’s presence too (same class). Going to see Aesop’s Fables at Vets memorial. Jacob didn’t sound excited at all. With the nice weather, Kenny said he hoped to cut grass too. Frankie played a while longer outside, but when she started eating goose poop I headed her back towards the house. Before heading off to work, I installed the charged battery in Jacob’s airsoft rifle and filled it with a handful of airsoft BBs. I took it out on the deck and gave it a whirl both in automatic and semi-automatic mode. Cool! Fires nice, but not nearly as powerful as my pump BB gun. More I thought about it, probably a good thing. I headed off to work without my golf clubs. Need to visit the range a time or two. The drive in was very nice. Looked and felt like spring. It didn't even occur to me to drive the BM'er. I arrived at the office just ahead of 830a. I spent the first 30 minutes prepping for our 9a staff meeting call. For better or worse, I had a lot to say and share. In fact, more than all the others put together. I don’t necessarily like it to be that way. I went from one call to another, and before I knew it was afternoon. I ended up eating at my desk. I was really that busy. The afternoon went as fast as the morning. I took a call from Mindy late afternoon. I think she was on her way home from school still. Reminded me about soccer practice and wanted to know if I was still planning to take Jacob. Yes. She also shared that she received but missed a call from Bella’s school. She returned it only to be transferred to a guidance counselor of sorts. Apparently, Bella kissed a boy in the hallway which caused quite an uproar amongst her 2nd grade peeps. I made sure that Mindy felt as I, that while being concerned, it wasn’t something to punish her over. Mindy concurred. We both were curious to hear Bella’s side of the story. Mindy planned to see if Bella would share without probing. Oh boy! And so it begins. Work was busy right up until I departed. I had to force myself out just after 530p. It was lovely – about 64 and sunny. I wasn’t looking forward to doing the soccer practice thing, but it is what it is. Jacob loves it. The grass greened up like crazy during the day. Very noticeable. Inside, the house was quiet. The kids were out playing. Right away, I noticed a noxious odor in the kitchen. Smelt like bug spray. Mindy confirmed as much. Said she sprayed for ants after finding piss ants crawling all over our kitchen floor. I could see wet trails of spray. I was not pleased at all and shared as much. Instead of coming home to calm, I came home to a noxious, unhealthy environment. Mindy assured me that she sprayed only under the lip of the island. However, while doing my after work chores I could see a wet trail pretty much all the way around the perimeter of the kitchen. Not entirely sure what spray she used, either. I was upset. The last stuff I bought was odorless. I was afraid she used outdoor stuff. Suddenly, my mood was sour. Mindy saw Chrissy out back and headed out to chat while also coralling Jacob for soccer practice. The way the house smelt, I wanted to leave immediately. It was 605p before Jacob came in to ready. I hurried him along then we left for practice. I only hoped that traffic wouldn’tbe an issue, and it wasn’t. We made good time arriving at 625p – five minutes early. The drive, however, damn near put me to sleep. While Jacob ran off to practice, I put the seat back and took a much needed nap. Slept for about 30 minutes. Felt terrific. I woke at 700p and spent the rest of the time listening to the Reds game. I brought along a book but didn’t bother cracking it. The Reds were up 1-0. Jacob’s team was one of the last off the field – figures! We didn’t get home until 8p. Just before pulling up at home, Jacob asked if we could shoot his new rifle. I doubted it given that the sun was setting, plus my first priority was dealing with my hunger. And honestly, I was still steamed at Mindy for the ant spray thing. I don’t trust anybody spraying poisons inside the house, especially in the kitchen. Was it on our utensils, counter, or worse yet, the food in the pantry? Mindy made Jacob a grilled cheese right away. Offered to make me one too. No thanks. I went to my PC until she was done in the kitchen. I was starving. It was hard to wait. Mindy and the kids tuned to American Idol. I listened from afar. Once Mindy went to the sofa, I went to the kitchen and warmed a leftover burger topping it with cheese and jalapeƱo cilantro hummus. Very tasty! Once my belly was full I felt a lot better. I eventually joined the family on the sofa where we watched the rest of Idol. I was looking forward to seeing Haley. For my money, she was one of the best again. Surprisingly, the judges didn’t’ see it that way. I don’t care. She did Blondie’s, Call Me. The dress and boots were to die for too.  Let’s see, this should be Paul’s last hoorah. See ya, dude! Mindy shooed the kids off to bed at Idol's conclusion. She wasn't too far behind, heading to bed a few minutes later. I tucked in the kids then headed back down stairs. I stayed up to watch Break In, or something like that. I started to dose off around 1005p and headed up to bed. I checked the Reds final on my way up. They lost 3-2. Dang it! Mindy was already out.
