Vikings Lose Their Opener

Excited that it was Thursday, I was up at my usual time of 530am and quickly engaged in exercise. It was long after that I was out with Frankie who seemed eager to be released and head outside. It was still pitch dark, chilly, with lots of stars overhead. I checked the weather in there somewhere. It was only 43 degrees! After meditation and a stretch, I served Mindy her morning coffee while also delivering the pug. I left for my run at 635am. I wore long pants and a long-sleeved wicking shirt. A jacket might’ve been ideal but didn’t consider it before heading out. I warmed up in a hurry. Mindy had breakfast awaiting my return. I was in extra good spirits knowing this was essentially my Friday, but also the kick-off to Vikings regular season. I planned to wear my Favre jersey to work. Mindy left at her usual time. And soon I was off to the shower. At the bus stop Kenny asked if I would mind it if he and Scott worked on framing the tree house while I worked. I shared that I didn’t mind, but would feel bad for not helping. Kenny figured they could get the basic framing completed. Sure, why not? After the kids were safely on the bus, I headed off to work once again in the BM’er. Again, it was cool but beautiful. However, with all the brilliant sunshine it was warming quickly. I was at work on time. A few people kidded me about my Favre jersey but obviously I didn’t care. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have worn it. The day went smoothly. We planned another meeting with our lead engineer’s to put the finishing touches on our new plan. That meeting was held at 230pm. Went well. Lasted until 330pm. As one might expect, I was eager to end my day and start my 3-day birthday weekend. I stayed busy right up until 530pm. Mindy called a little earlier to see if I was OK with a light dinner –, cheese, fruit, and salad. Heck yeah! At home Mindy had all the fore mentioned items ready and waiting. We snacked through most of the early evening hours leading up to kick-off. I watered the flowers out back with some of my idle time. I also had enough time to update my blog. I had a lot of nervous energy. The actual game kicked off at 830pm, but we tuned in at 730am to watch the live entertainment – Taylor Swift/Dave Matthews. They’re still playing up the Hurricane Katrina thing even five years later. I feel for the ‘real’ cause but also feel they’re exploiting me and everyone else. The Saints didn’t waste anytime getting going. They took their opening possession down the field and scored a quick TD. Cut through my Vikes like butter. The Vikes looked tense, including the coach. They settled down and played fairly well after that first drive. Jacob got sent to his room almost as soon as he got home from soccer practice. He was purposefully clocking the TV so I couldn’t watch the game and then followed those antics with some sassy mouth. Not on my watch. I sent him to his room. The Vikings took a 9-7 lead into halftime after Brett Favre conducted one of his classic last minute drives for a TD just before halftime. Similar to the first half, the Saints took their opening second half drive in for a TD. They never scored again, but sadly, neither did the Vikings. We lost 14-9. Damn! Our offense looked out of synch. I was too worked up. It was just week one, and I promised to not let myself get too worked up this season. It’s just a game.  Right! I headed to bed around midnight. Everyone else was already there. It took a while to fall asleep, but at least I didn’t need to be up for work Friday AM.
