Indian Springs
I was up by 715am and eager to get my day moving. Because it was a Sunday, I didn’t plan to do any sit-ups or push-ups. Instead, I started coffee then took Frankie outside right away. While sipping coffee at my PC, I heard Mindy get up. She was downstairs around 830am.
I did some work on my blog then left for my Sunday run. Last minute, I decided to keep it inside the confines of the subdivision. Because it was Sunday, I ran just three miles. I wore long running pants and a long sleeved shirt. It was downright chilly – in the low 40’s. Actually, pretty nice running weather though.
Mindy had an appointment planned to have her hair colored while I had plans to golf. However, before considering golf, I wanted to get the lawn cut. I hadn’t cut the lawn since Thursday the 26th of August. After my run Mindy suggested that she and the kids might do dinner at Gloria’s. She asked what time I might be home from golf. I figured around 6pm, but that was only a rough guess. We still had no definitive tee time.
Mindy left for her appointment while I was busy working on the lawn. After most of my cutting was done I spotted Kenny out back, so I stopped long enough to firm up our golfing intentions. Planned to leave near 1pm for Indian Springs. I finished the lawn then headed inside to ready for golf.
I picked up Kenny at 1245pm and off we went. We took the scenic country route out 70 west to route 29 then north through Mechanicsburg. It’s about a 20 mile drive up 29 and it’s almost all corn fields. And folks, that’s a lot of corn! During our drive, I shared my tree house plans with Kenny. He agreed to lend his expertise. As we passed through the tiny town of Mechanicsburg and made our way towards route 559 which dumps you out on route 161 just west of the golf course, we were abruptly stopped from turning on 559 by a Sherriff’s cruiser. Now which way?
We proceeded further north where another sheriff’s vehicle sat blocking yet another intersection. I stopped to ask how we might get to 161 from there and then what was all the hub-bub about . “Saxbe funeral” said one of the two officers. He also gave us directions to rt. 161. The alternative route might’ve taken us three extra miles out of our way. Not too bad. I asked Kenny if he’d heard of Saxbe. He hadn’t. I had. I remember the name in local politics as a youngster, but wasn’t sure if there was a connection.
The course lot was about as full as I have ever seen it. Even still, Dan, the club pro, got us right on, and said if we hurried, we could get out in front of a foursome of old folks. Good deal! Kenny insisted on getting our green fees.
I started fairly well shooting two shots better than bogey golf for the first seven holes. Number eight is a simple 360-380 par four. Long story short, I carded a stinkin’ nine on it. It all started when I pushed my drive left and right up against a tree trunk. It took me two or thee shots to get out of that mess. Dang it! Hole number nine is a long par 5. I bogeyed to finish the front with a 47. Again, that damn nine!
We opted to play through without a break. I started the back much like the front carding a string of bogeys interrupted by one double. But the final four holes were the death of me. I ended with a lack luster 52 on the back. I should’ve scored much better than that.
It was about 515pm when we finished our round and started for home. We took the Mechanicsburg route. I phoned Ashley seeking a possible overnight with Olivia. Ashley was game and agreed to bring her over around 700pm. I then called Mindy to make sure it was OK with her. Probably should’ve called her first. Oops!
Mindy was at her sisters having dinner with the family. Said they were just starting into dessert. She was fine with Olivia coming over and staying the night. She asked if we wanted to have the boys too. No, not this week. That would be too crazy for me! Kenny, meanwhile, made arrangements to meet his family at the Japanese steak house for dinner, although they’d already be there by the time he’d arrive.
I dropped Kenny around 6pm then headed home to deal with Frankie. I was out watering flowers when Mindy and the kids arrived home. At roughly the same time, Ashley pulled up to drop off Olivia. There was a brief moment of chaos when Frankie darted around front after hearing all the commotion. She’s still very bad about that.
Ashley left after a short visit. Olivia was as cute as ever and very excited to be spending the night. She played mostly with Bella while Mindy ran off to the grocery store. I had to put Olivia in a time out after she hit Bella with a toy. She can get a little wild sometimes. She was remorseful and followed my direction.
We all helped Mindy carry in groceries around 8pm, even Olivia. While Mindy put everything away, I took Olivia up for a bath. She asked to have one. Obviously likes it. The kids watched the Disney Channel after their baths. Mindy asked me to inflate the air mattress to simplify the kids sleeping arrangements. I did, and placed it beside Bella’s bed. Olivia was tired. I carried her off to bed by 930pm.
Mindy and I stayed up for a while yet. I even poured myself a Jack & Coke, which I enjoyed while watching some Science Channel reruns of Through the Worm Hole. Mindy headed to bed in front of me by 30 minutes or so. I’m thinking I headed up around 11pm.
