For the first time all week, I slept uninterrupted and not by coincidence, I woke feeling completely refreshed. Mindy was already up with the kids, having rolled out of bed just ahead of me. Downstairs I completed sit-ups, windmills, then push-ups. Before relaxing with coffee and internet, I walked the pug. She was eager and happy to be getting a walk early.
Back home just before the kids headed off to the bus stop, I enjoyed coffee and internet for the next 20-30 minutes. After meditation and a stretch, I got an important email from my customer expressing some rather significant concerns. Needless to say, I had to put my routine and run on hold and take care of my customer. That kind of put the kibosh on my plan to run early and subsequently leave for work early.
During my toil with work, Mindy readied and left for school. Still on her own time, getting her new class room ready for the new year. Her first official day of school is Thursday, but she won’t have kids until the Tuesday after Labor Day. I remained focused on work until 910am. It was then that I headed out on a run. Ran 4.1 miles. It was plenty warm and sunny, a little hot even. I didn’t mind.
At home, I took the time to whip up breakfast and pack a lunch. By the time I finished all of that and then got a shower it was well after 10am. It was already 11am by the time I arrived across town at my customer’s campus.
Someone moved my cheese – a metaphor of sorts. Once again, they moved somebody into my cube/desk. I had to seek out one of their managers to get a new place to work. Soon I was seated and logged onto work. Because I arrived so late, I opted to pass on a formal lunch break, and instead plowed straight on through my work day. Accomplished quite a bit. It was near 5pm when I left for home.
I talked with Mindy shortly after getting on 270 though our conversation was brief. A few minutes later when I was just south of Dublin, David called playing the Buckeye battle cry on his new Kazoo. For a few seconds, I thought it was a prank call, but it soon made sense. He was calling to share that he received the birthday gifts I had shipped to his home (kazoos, guiro, and spoons). He shared that he and Anita were heading to Ashville come morning, staying at the Biltmore and seeing Lyle Lovett the following evening.
Arrived home near 535pm. We made plans to have dinner and beers at Barleys. Thinking it was 6pm when we headed out. Not much of a crowd at all. We settled in at the bar where Daniel could take care of us. Noted that they had Warlock on tap, It’s a Southern Tier seasonal, a pumpkin Imperial Stout. We both had one. Very good, but I can only take one of those. My second was a ZIPA which I enjoyed along with 10 K.C. wings well done. Mindy had a Southwest salad with warm meat. Don’t’ get me started She also had a bowl of the soup-of-the-day – chicken chowder. I had a few bites. It was delicious.
At Barley’s until 810pm. The kids were calling for food but Mindy asked why they didn’t eat dinner with their dad. Wanting to please, I went ahead and stopped at Wendy’s just a few store fronts down from Barleys and bought the kids some food – their usuals.
Immediately in the door, once the kids saw that I brought home food, they both gave me a big hug. Near 9pm I headed for the living room and my Kindle. I read for just a few minutes before dosing off. I woke maybe 30 minutes later, to an empty downstairs. Mindy and the kids were already in their beds.
