Perhaps a Little Melancholy

I was up around 730am feeling completely rested. I was no sooner down the stairs when I heard mom up. I immediately felt disappointed that I wouldn't have a hour to myself. Turns out, that was all for not, she didn't come downstairs for another hour. Perhaps she was taking a shower. I'm not sure. During that hour I started coffee and enjoyed some internet time.

The storm that appeared to barreling right for us late last night must've fizzled out like so many others this summer. However, there was a strong chance of storms forecasted for Sunday as well, and it appeared that one was coming our way just about 50 miles out. Earlier, a big cluster of storms missed us just to the north and south, splitting around the city.

I dressed and left for a run around 9am. And wouldn't you know, it started to rain just before I headed out. At the time it was just a sprinkle, though very large drops. I ran just short of two miles before he sky completely opened up on me. The rain didn't concern or bother me in the least. Felt refreshing. I was, however, concerned about lightning, but none materialized. There were a couple of times when it rained so hard I could barely see ten feet in front of my face.

I made it home safely. The rain let up just short of home. After closely examining the radar before heading out, I knew there was an expected lull before another large batch of rain. We needed it, and I was looking forward to it. Once again, it never materialized. As it near the western edge of our fine city the rain seemed to evaporate into thin air. Mindy wasn't up until 1015am, or shortly after my return from the run.

Shortly after returning from my run I offered that we make bloody Mary's. Mindy was game, mom, not so much. In fact, she called the two of us alchies! We picked up some spicy V-8 Saturday at Giant Eagle. I made two bloody Mary's using only one shot of vodka in each. I added a few drops of hot sauce as well as some pepper. They were tasty! Mindy liked hers enough that she opted for a 2nd. I took my 2nd with me to my computer.

Not long after sitting down and starting some music on iTunes my audio started acting up. The volume would go high then low, and then eventually cut out completely. I checked the connections on the subwoofer behind the system. As soon as I touched one of the wires it went completely out. I fooled with the wiring and sound card for a while, eventually seeing that one of the audio pins was bent where it attaches to the sub woofer. Not sure when or how that happened. I had a hard time seeing it with limited lighting, but eventually got it situated. During the hour I fooled with the computer audio, my dad stopped over for a visit. About the same time Lindsey and the boys showed up to do laundry.

I was a little overwhelmed with so much going on at the house. Mom readied to depart for home around 2pm. I carried her gear to her car. Dad prepared to leave at the same time. While saying goodbye to mom she pointed out the low tire indicator on her dashboard. She didn't know what it meant. I informed her of its purpose and then went for my air compressor. Her right front tire was just a little low. I topped it off and the light went out. All the others were OK. I pointed out a nice nick in the sidewall. Not sure if it was new or there when she bought the car. Off she went. A minute or two later dad was gone.

Once both parents left, Rocky and I tossed the football for about 30 minutes. When he went inside I decided to get started on the lawn. By then it had dried out enough for mowing. No longer did it look like rain. The sun was out and the temperature in the mid 80s. I cut the front lawn first then the push mower pieces of the rear. After doing the tractor stuff I took a short break before doing the edging. I didn't bother whacking. Didn't really need it. he lawn looked pretty daggone good once I was done, especially the front lawn. While I worked on the lawn, Mindy ran to Whole Foods for dinner supplies after we weighed the pros and cons of dining in or out. Once again we opted to grill at home, only this time Chilean sea bass (a.k.a. Patagonian toothfish).

Lindsey and the boys finished their laundry and headed for home around 430pm. Mindy asked when I wanted dinner. At the time all I wanted was a nap. Mindy walked down to chat with Chrissy & Kenny who home only briefly before heading off again to take their niece, Hallie to concert for her 16th birthday. While Mindy was next door I popped the remaining 6 risotto balls in the oven on the pizza stone, figuring we'd have those along with the Chilean sea bass.

Mindy wasn't next door for long and started preparing dinner as soon as she was back. She made a pan of brown rice and grilled fresh green peppers and onions in a skillet. The Chilean sea bass was delicious as were the risotto balls. We finished off all but one. I'll need to make another batch soon. After dinner I got nappy while watching Olympic coverage. I must've dosed off two or three times over the course of the evening. We headed for bed even before 10pm. For some reason I was super sleepy. Mindy was heading in to work on Monday for the first time & I think she was a little melancholy.
