I slept until 8am. I woke and asked Mindy what time she was expecting Lindsey to drop-off the boys - 815am. I pulled myself from bed and by the time I finished brushing my teeth and was heading down the stairs we could hear Lindsey’s car outside. I greeted the boys at the door, who helped their mom carry in their week’s worth of laundry. Mindy told Lindsey to drop it off with the boys and she would do it for her while she worked. In the end, that would make for a saner weekend for the two of us.
Lindsey was off to work a couple minutes later. Right away, Landon asked to play Wii and then a cup of coffee. Rocky said he was going upstairs and back to sleep. Good choice! Mindy soon joined me downstairs.
Once the coffee was ready Mindy and I enjoyed a cup and then I made Landon a cup with mostly chocolate milk, just like I did a couple weekends ago. Mindy left for her haircut appointment around 9am. Once Jacob was awake, both boys headed up to his room to play video games. It was cloudy, gloomy morning. We haven’t had too many of those lately. The forecast wasn’t very nice either. We were expecting clouds all day with a chance of showers. We got a downpour around 930am, or just before my run. And when I finally headed out for my run it was only about 63 degrees. I saw Mindy pull in the subdivision from her hair appointment shortly after I started my run.
I ran the usual weekend route of only 3 miles and was back at home around 1015am. Aside from running and updating my blog I didn’t do anything productive. The gloomy weather and the busy work week left me longing for nothing more than a lazy afternoon of lounging around the house.
Exchanged a couple texts with Bob I.. He reminded me of the ASBCO summer ski sale taking place at their Polaris store this weekend only. Also selling MRM season passes at a discounted rate. I checked MRMs website. It looked like the family pass that we get was excluded from the discounts. Even still, Mindy and I had talked about heading up to checkout new skis for her.
Mindy left for Target to birthday gifts for Lillian and Makayla. Chrissy was celebrating both their b-days that afternoon. I agreed to take care of a couple loads of laundry so she could leave then without worrying about that. The kids were off playing. I folded one load, started another, and threw one in the dryer. No biggie. I spent the rest of the time reading and napping.
Where had the day gone? It was 4pm and I hadn’t done a damn thing. I did watch the women’s Olympic gold medal basketball game. I thought about heading out to mow the lawn but another brief afternoon shower put the kaboshes on that notion. Just as well. I was feeling extra lazy. Mindy and Bella were back from Target, and soon Bella was off to the birthday party. Mindy asked what I wanted to do for dinner. Wasn’t sure. She suggested the three of us (her, me and Jacob) dine out. Bella was overnighting at Makayla’s.
Lindsey picked the boys up around 545pm. She shared that she’s finally getting some financial support from big Rocky, though he and his girlfriend are trying to manipulate her into giving part of the money back under the table. I heard her tell Mindy he promised to tell the boys he didn’t love them and never keep them if she didn’t. I suggested she call the cops! What an ass. Hasn’t paid a dime for 9 years.
While Mindy and I weighed our dinner options, Jacob apparently fell asleep in his room. In the end we agreed on CBC. It was the only place that sounded worth getting off the couch for. More than the food, I wanted a Bodhi! We all three headed out around 645pm. I asked Jacob to put his bike away before we left. It was left lying in the side yard. He did so willingly but while putting it away said he wasn’t going with us. Too tired. Wanted sleep. Mindy went ahead and let him stay at home. Promised to bring him home some food. It was just the two of us.
It was a quiet drive to CBC. At the outset Mindy shared that she’s feeling a bit unloved, ignored, not getting enough attention. CBC had only a modest crowd. Vince was working the bar alone but had things well under control. Across the bar, I noticed Dr. Julie and presumably her husband having dinner. We waved. Minutes later she walked over to talk with Mindy and I. I gave her a big hug. Haven’t been in to see her since summer 2010, or after my last LASIK follow-up appointment. Mindy was excited to show her, her new eye glasses. We talked for a while.
Vince shared the day’s dinner specials then asked about appetizers. Asked if we wanted some risotto balls. Heck yes! Both of us love them. We kicked around the idea of ordering dinner but never did. Instead, we decided to order some to-go food just before leaving. However, not before I enjoyed a total of three Bodhi’s. Mindy had just one. It was her night to drive. Around 9pm we ordered a Cuban burrito for Jacob and wings for me, both to-go. They were ready in a jiffy.
Arrived home near 920pm. Jacob was just getting up from his evening slumber and was excited that we brought him some food. He loved the Cuban burrito the last time we were there. Hadn’t been down to see Kenny/Chrissy in a while. I suggested we walk down. Mindy agreed. We poured a ZIPA to share then walked down with the pug.
Josh & Rachel were there, as were neighbors Mike and Teri. Wendy was there with her 4 kids too. Haven’t seen Wendy for several months. They were just getting ready for an outdoor movie – The Lorax. All they needed to do was find it. Apparently lost amongst the birthday chaos. Mindy actually found it after about ten minutes of searching. Lots of kids around. Our beer went fast. I walked home to pour another, the last of our growler. We hung at the neighbors for maybe another 30 minutes before Mindy said she was ready to head home. I followed close behind without being asked. We were both quick to sleep.
