Impetigo #3 - Stormy

I slept in Sunday morning until almost 8am. It was cloudy, which is rarely if ever the way I like my day to start. I prepped some Starbucks then played on the PC and peaked in on work. Enjoyed coffee and internet until 9am then stretched and readied for a run. Headed out the door with the sun finally breaking through about the same time. I wore a short sleeved shirt to combat a slight chill in the air. For the first time in maybe 2 years, I ran the Trabue/Hague trail, which is at least a 4 mile run.

Mindy was still asleep when I returned from my run. In fact, she wasn’t up until just after 10am. Said she wasn’t feeling the greatest. Little wonder, she drank a few glasses of wine and then at least two IIPAs. She reminded me that Lindsey and the boys were coming over near noon to do laundry. We were expected at niece Julie’s b-day party at 5pm. I had no significant chores planned.

We hung out briefly on the deck. While Mindy showered and dressed for her weekly trip to the grocery, I headed in and spent some time updating my blog. Mindy left for the grocery store about 10 minutes ahead of Lindsey’s arrival, or just before noon. I kidded her about planning it that way. I headed out on the deck with a book and water and took up refuge on the chaise. I read and napped for at least an hour. Felt terrific!

Rocky came out asking if he could have a Dr. Pepper. Sure. Of course, that was a good indication that they were there.  I headed in to my PC for a while. The boys were playing Wii. I spent a little more time in the garage clearing off my work bench that had been completely covered with various project remnants for as long as two years. It felt refreshing to finally get it cleared.

Mindy was back from the grocery around 2pm. I helped carry the groceries in. She and I spent some time together on the deck, me enjoying a ham and turkey sandwich. Somehow I had missed that Rocky had scabs on his face and ear. Lindsey shared that he had impetigo, just like Evan and Jacob. His ear was actually oozing. Hard to stomach. Lindsey asked Mindy if she would clean it up. Said he won’t let her. Who’s in charge? Mindy willingly stepped in to do the deed. Rocky doesn’t give Mindy much if any crap. He trusts her too. And for the record, according to Lindsey, he’s already on antibiotics for it, just like the other two boys. Apparently Evan was the spreader, and passed it along when they were all three playing tackle football a few weeks back, voila!

Around 4pm I headed up for a shower. Until then I had lounged around in my running attire. It felt good to get cleaned up. At the same time Lindsey and the boys headed home. Around 430pm we left for Julie’s b-day event. It was just starting to sprinkle near home but looked clear to the north, or the direction we were headed. We made good time around 270 and up Sawmill Rd to Hard Rd. We arrived at 450pm – ten minutes early, or so we thought. Once inside we quickly learned that the event started at 4pm. I could only laugh it off. Mindy felt terrible. After all, the Thompson family takes offense when one shows late for a family event.

This marked our first visit to Julie and Katie’s new place. Nice! They’ve done a terrific job decorating. We indulged ourselves in the Jet’s pizza and chips still out for consumption. I had two pieces. Jet’s pizza is extra thick and very filling. That was plenty. Brother Craig was feeling no pain, sharing with me his recent colonoscopy experience with, can you believe it, Dr. Stiff. Too funny. Said the prep wasn’t bad at all. Actually had a polyp removed. Will need to return for another peek in five years. I joked with brother Larry about needing/getting one. He’s actually overdue.
It started to rain almost as soon as we arrived so the party moved inside. In fact, the storm intensified, complete with thunder and lightning. Rained pretty hard too. At some point I turned on their CATV/TV to the 10TV weather radar channel. Looked like a small storm taking aim on the NW/NE suburbs of CMH. The southern tail looked as if it might’ve hit us back at home too.

We hung out for singing, cake, and presents and then probably another 30 minutes. Near 7pm we readied for home since it was a school night for Mindy. She was a bit over the top about getting home early to prep for her first school day. The kids whined about it a little. As we neared home the remnants of the storm were noticeably less on our side of town, though there were still puddles here and there, meaning that we got a decent downpour as well. Good, because we needed it.

Both Bella & Jacob were permitted to run off to play with friends until 9pm and 845pm respectively (that’s right, Mindy allowed Bella a later curfew than Jacob). While they played, I tuned the TV to the preseason NFL game between the Colts and Steelers. It was fun to watch Indy’s 1st round draft pick, Andrew Luck. He seems like the real deal. Mindy and the kids were off to bed by 930pm. I stayed downstairs until 1010pm, but watched a little more of the game from bed, or until I lost interest and fell asleep.
